It was a weird old primary in New Hampshire with Romney and Rockefeller both pulling out basically handing Nixon it on a plate.

Always struck me as a little too convenient. Rockefeller's social class benefited enormously from the shift rightward.

I am opposed to democracy, especially the mercantile democracies which have dominated corporate government under Conservative policies. Conservatives have no place in a Republican party. The problem with the electoral organizations which claim to be “Republican” has been and is that they are controlled by the Conservative Democracy, being completely unresponsive to the Republican ideology of selfless service to a stewardship of the public matter, and of liberation of the people from the mercantile democracies which have made this a country of paupers begging to be serfs. Rockefeller’s failure was that he accepted the democratic framework of conservative/moderate/liberal instead of clearly enunciating a radical Republican ideology of liberation from mercantile corporations, from oppressive landlords and from tyrannical usurers who keep the people in subjection. In other words, Rockefeller failed to wage war against Conservatism and its democracies.

Yes but didnt rockefeller and his family benefit from that mercantile set up? Nelson's nephew Sen. Jay Rockefeller was a Democrat for his career, but never effectuated change of the system. Rockefeller didnt believe in what you have written so nicely here.

@@goldbrick2563 in some ways, Nelson was more an Aldrich than a Rockefeller, yet was still constrained by the democratic mercantilism which gave his family wealth. David ended up being the face of his family after Nelson’s decline.

rather hilarious how much this guy Cohen got completely wrong. The bigoted superior smarm he lets out at some points must have bitten him in the ass. "How could this have happened!?!?!" hahahahaha Honourable mention: the failed one clap at 53:54 when he calls Republicans racist. Yass queen slay.
