I wouldn't ridicule a grown man buying clothes with his mother. My relatives occasionally treat me to clothes and take me shopping for it. Born in '75 and I've never been harassed for that. It'd be more an issue personally if he had been unable or unwilling to buy his own things and was sponging, but a nice treat during a visit home is perfectly normal and I know men in their 30s-50s who do this.

You would have men working in department stores that would be your salesman. My father was a surgeon and wore a suit every day of his life. Dad didn’t get tailor made suits but still bought fine suits (silk and wool exclusively) which were altered to fit. When I went to get my first suit, Mom took me to Dad’s guy at Blach’s (Birmingham AL) and he fixed me up. Mom even took home some suits for Dad to try and bring back. (They would let you do this). The salesman had a card with each customer’s sizes and preferences. It’s a now long gone part of US retail.

This is the mall I grew up going to. And I was a teenager in 1989 so yes, I could have been here this day. 😀 This mall has shut down like so many others. So strange to see the mall the way I remember it.

God, I love Nelson. Every time I see one of his videos, I wish I'd met him. A truer southern gentleman, there has never been! (and I live in Birmingham Alabama!!)

I remember as a young kid going to the shoes store and having the employee put my foot in that ridiculously heavy metal foot size tool..... would measure my foot for me since I wasn’t sure the size.... now days they would look at you sideways if you told them you didn’t know your shoe size
@krashatoms18324 жыл бұрын
I still see those metal foot size tools lol.
@perfectpens12624 жыл бұрын
But they don’t. They still hVe those tools and still measure. You just have ask in most shoe stores
@jakepophal9854 жыл бұрын
it's not that hard to use that machine, I have had to size my own feet before no worries lol

I love Nelson! And his southern charm! and I love that he’s the exact same no matter if he’s with his friends, his mom, on the party scene, visiting his neighbors or the doctors office. He never changed and was always himself! Never loud, crazy acting, very mellow…..always carried himself like a lady 🤭🤭

Can't believe he ran into the salesman from Brooklyn... in South Carolina.

I remember malls in 80s... The customer service was top notch. They lost that through cost cutting measures that eventually resulted in customers ultimately cutting them out of business.

what an 1a quality service, back in those days, unbelivable... i dont know how i'm landed here, but it was very unusual back in those days to film everything with those VHS camcorder which costs also real money in this time, i know it my father had one. unbelivable cause i read it here, only 4 months later Nelson died. Nice friendly guy, also the salesman, unbelivable.. and now, today? "no time..." "sorry - not enough staff.."

11/2023 I am still viewing these videos! A small world indeed ! ex NewYorker [funny guy name dropping] selling schmatta in Columbia SC to an ex SC now in NYC ! both know Sylvia, wow. Now how about the mall? and store - no big brands in your face just in-house signage of Timberland and Florsheim...momma cutting a cheque. Nostalgic AF. Thank god the vids are saved.

So, who were these people. Why were they well known?
@GrijzePilion6 жыл бұрын
Well Nelson was a vlogger, go figure, 25 years before the concept of vlogging caught on. And he was an artist who was in on New York City's hottest and most extravagant social circles. So I imagine these videos were watched all over. I don't know how, but I imagine this guy's tapes got around. Let's just say he's significant enough to have a fairly lengthy Wikipedia page.
