Great way to explain how it works visually, thanks! Can you explain how you can just jump to the fifth item on the list though, without starting at your front door and counting things along the path? Do you use the same locations each time, and you have already attributed a number to each one?
@NelsonDellis
@NelsonDellis 7 жыл бұрын
I'll do a video on this for sure. The basic idea would be to maybe add an extra mental image to your locations to help your remember what number location it is. The first and last locations are easy (front door was 1 and living room floor was last). Next I would number every 5th one. That would be the back of the counter where the flour was. So in my mind, I would throw something into the image that helps me remember it is location 5. How about a 5 dollar bill I'm using to snort up the flour like a drug? Once you know the first, middle, and last location, you can jump easily. For example, what's the 8th item? Well jump to the 5th (flour) and advance 3 places OR go to the end (roll of paper) and go back two: STRAWBERRIES!

Nelson makes it seem as though he is picking the locations in his house at random. In reality, he probably had all the locations chosen (and numbered) well in advance of placing his list of items. Anthony Metivier recommends starting from the back, end-point of your house and moving smoothly and progressively toward the exit, not crossing your path or retracing your steps.

hmm, I knew what we were gonna do from the title, but I was kinda disappointed: - the obvious nature of these recurring lists (that they're changing) such as the grocery list would imply that we would need to erase and replace the items. This was not addressed at all and what I was interested in is how to do that efficiently and in a foolproof way. How would I not mistake an item for today that I've placed at the same spot for yesterday's list? Or should we make a new palace for each instance? That wouldn't sound easy. - your second and third places for the list were the same spot, one being just 10 inches further. Are those 2 spots really very distinctly memorable to you? - is it Really enough to just imagine us dropping or pouring the stuff around? Shouldn't there be some more interactions made up with the environment? appreciate you

Hey. I appreciate your questions. Some of them are answered in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e2LbanyXgrmjr9k, question 2: they are. And this can be up to you, locations can be close together, far apart, on different parts of the same thing, as long as it makes sense to you it will work. question 3: When you get better at doing this, yes. At first, you might need to envision more interaction in your mind. But for the sake of the video, I was trying to keep it short and sweet.

Is it normal to use the same memory palace multiple times? As in have a memory palace of my house with different sets of images like one version with 10 images to a college subject and then the same palace with a completely different set of images for another set of information or would this just cause confusion as in I go to my fridge and the wrong image pops up and other information is lost, haven't seen any videos warn of common mistakes in memory palace creation

Already have a great idea of a memory palace location: my workplace. But interestingly, the rooms are (mostly) all labeled/indexed- spoiler alert: it's a hotel. But seriously, it has 100 "hotel rooms" proper alone- that's good enough not to worry about location numbers with a list of roughly 105!

But as you know we can't use a location several times as memory place , so how do you do when you need a new memory place? I tried to find pictures in Google and use them as memory place but it doesn't worked very well. I would be grateful of you answer my question. Thank you 🌸

This sounds really well, I like your other video on how to start the memory palace, and so forth. but now the question is, what if one of my palaces is too short, or I discover that my path trough the palace is better if I changed it, or some things changed in the physical memory palace and it needs reorganization or size increasing? Should I alter that memory palace or memorize/ build another one? Because rather than using my home as the first palace then i would use something else. Or reorganizing the memory palace shouldn't be a problem, or should I add new items at the end of the palace? How should one choose a palace? based on size or the number of items in the set that need memorized?

I have a couple of questions regarding memory palaces. How do you do when you have plans to memorize large amounts of data? I have no problem getting up to around 500 locis in different places but somewhere around there my ideas runs out. And i don't really have much of an upper limit on the amounts of information i would like to store. For example - In order to learn one language one has to be fluent in approximately 6-10,000 words, i also have an interest in history so the the amount of space needed grows quickly as you can imagine. I could of course use movies/video games to some extent and get a lot of memory places that way but i still doubt that is enough. I would really appreciate your input, how do you approach this? Is it better to reuse memory palaces rather than opting for always having new space for new information? Can one nest memory locis in some way so that one loci can contain a whole chain of information?

Hi Thanks to your video now I'm relatively familiar with mind palace. I have a question:What happen if I just use one place in my mind palace? For example yesterday I wanted to remember 5 things or 10 and today I wanna remember 5 other things. Is it acceptable to use that place again because they have no relevance or I should use next place?

Hi, Nelson. I recently thought of a self-generated memory palace. Let's say you are learning a verse - there are different locations in it, people, actions, etc. So I do not store them in a previously made palace, but construct a palace on the go from the very things that I need to remember. Have you ever used such technique and what do you think about this idea? :)

Can you explain what you mean more thoroughly? It sounds like your describing the chain technique or russian doll technique. Its not as effective as loci.

I would like to share my method. I'm no expert by any means. 3 rules 1. The mind palace is for learning linear lists. You have to break up the formula into a string of words. 2. Do not put more than three pieces of information in one place. 3. Turn numbers and variants into living beings, symbols into objects, and operations into actions. You have something like (a-b)(a+b)=a^2-b^2 Let's go to the park. The open bracket to me is an opened basket. 1. So there is an opened basket next to the sign that warns you about your dog's poo. ( Substraction can be stealing or a subaru. Apple starts with a. The most famous apple guys are Steve Job/Newton. Beethoven starts with b. 2. Newton steals from Beethoven at the big rock. a-b A closed casket sounds like a closed bracket. 3. Funeral at the bench. ) (a-b) So far. 4. Opened basket at the flowers ( Addition is marrige or Edd from Ed, Edd, and Eddy. 5. Newton and Beethoven are getting married next to a dumbster. a+b (The woke Dr. Who fans will love this image.) 6. The closed cascet is swinging at the swings. ) So far (a-b)(a+b) 7. Martin Luther King asking for equality next to the barbecue pit = 8. Newton at the Sandpit. a The symbol of number 2 looks like a duck to me, and ^ looks like a tent. 9. A duck camping in a tent next to the water well ^2 10. In the pond, a subaru (subtraction) sinking. - 11. Beethoven at the Statue. b 12. Duck in the tent camping in the small house ^2 So 1. ( 2. a-b 3. ) 4. ( 5. a+b 6.) 7. = 8. a 9. ^2 10. - 11. B 12. ^2 (a-b)(a+b)=a^2-b^2 You can get away with not memorizing the brackets and where the equal symbol is. And you can use more than one imaginary subject or object for the same thing. When I'm bored of imagining the same duck, I use an army of cartoon ducks.
