Hey, I am a mother of 2 kids. I got terrible memory loss due to pregnancy since 4.5 years ago. (At this time, I did not remember most of the evens in my life before I give birth). Then I decided to practice to gain my memory back since 3 years ago. I saw your video 6 months ago but I did not ready yet. Now I am ready. I could remember 12 cards in....5 mins now. For others people, it's nothing. But for me, it means a lot. Today, I continue to practice for the full deck of card. I will do it because I want to show for other mothers (in Vietnam) that they can gain their memory back after loss memory due to pregnancy. Thank you for all your videos... I am a fan of you.

I assigned cards by people's initials, the suits being the first letter of the last names (D, C, H or S). First names, Ace & Jack are A & J, but the queens and kings are actual or fictional monarchs (eg - King David, Queen of Sheeba). 2 = D (arbitrary choice), 3 is a backwards E, 4 begins with F, 5 looks like an S, 6 is an upside-down small g, 7 is L flipped and backwards, 8 looks like B, and from spelling, 9 = N and 10 = T. Works 4 me, the 10 of spades!

Thank you for your great video. I changed things a little. Using all Super Heros Characters. A - 10 are Heros, 7 - 9 are monsters, 3 - 6 are Villians, and 2s and love interests such as Mary Jane, Lois Lane, est. I did this because it alines better with card counting. Then... I felt that Object and Action were too similar. So I when with Person, Super Power or weapon, and Location. Location conflicted a bit with my memory palace so I shrink everything down to a miniature scale and that seemed to help.

@NelsonDellis6 жыл бұрын
@@ryanlee1195 Great question. My thoughts: the most important thing is to train a little bit every day. Doing too much can quickly get overwhelming. You want to stay motivated every day to get better. So choosing one event (cards is a great choice) or maybe two is a perfect place to start. Yes you're getting good at just one or two events, but you'll be simultaneously building a foundation for your memory techniques, which can be easily applied to other events. In short, GO FOR CARDS!

Awesome Video Nelson. I took all 52 cards and linked them to people using the major system For the spade cards I used a shovel meaning people who passed away. Sometimes the person doesn't follow the major system but that's alright with me. Hearts are movie characters example 6 of hearts is Jason Bourne 9 of hearts is Obi Won Diamonds are presidents so I took presidents 31-43 and stuck a female in there for the queen. Maybe I will rethink it though.

All those tutorials are fantastics and very well done. Thank you for making them, I'll be spreading them around. I'm also working on filming and editing a bunch of tutorials about memory and learning (in French). It's a whole new skill to learn and much more time consuming than I would have thought. So far I've been experimenting and getting both good and bad results. Any advise on what type of not overly expensive camera or editing software I should use? Any particular website I should check out?
@NelsonDellis7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I started with iMovie (on Mac) for editing, which is very basic and it was totally fine to get started. Now I use Premiere Pro (expensive if you're on a budget, but worth it). As for cameras, you can see the gear I use in the description of the video. To make tutorials, the gear doesn't really matter honestly. I've done bits of my videos with an iPhone even, in a pinch. If you have a story or a good idea, then camera doesn't really matter. What I think is important is audio (At least for tutorial), so make sure you have a good external mic (see the ones I use in the video description - there's an awesome one that plugs right into your iPhone).

Here is what I do: Jacks are the suit itself (can't be easier than that!) QC-cream QH-queen QS-steam QD-dream (the “eam” rymes with Queen) KC-king KH-hing KS-sing KD-drink (the “ing” rymes with King)
@JeffTheHokie3 жыл бұрын
The Harry Lorayne pegs. I started with them and I'm modifying the list into words easier to visualize. For instance dream is Freddy Krueger, the verb "to dream" means to slash with a razor glove, the adjective "dreamy" means in the process of morphing into Freddy (like the car at the end of the first film), and the setting (if I need a place) is the boiler room. For all of these I still think the word "dream". "Steam" is not that memorable, so for SQ I changed the rule Squid squishes squeaky squash in squalor. Right now I'm trying to convert everything into clusters of 5. Person- action (transitive verb)- adjective (can hyphenate a noun or add ing to a verb if needed), object (can be the same as the person), and place. For the most part all are based on the Lorayne systen, but if I have a strong enough image I'll make exceptions and link to the person instead. I prefer clusters of 5 because we think in base-ten numbers. Also I already have a system to automatically get ten locations out of any room: 4 bottom corners, floor, 4 top corners, ceiling the leftover adjective-noun pair can just be floating in space. Outside I can use a pair of familiar buildings: the corners and the roofs. A couple examples: AC = Cat: Cat cuts cute cat in a litterbox. 5S= Sail: Popeye sails (uses as a sailboat) slow sail in a boat KH: Hank hangs hanging (or hung) Hinge on a Hankey Ks: Sing (or Sting): Sting sings(to or about) singing(or stinging) singer(or stinger) on a piano bench 10S Zeus: Zeus Zeuses (throws lightning bolts at) saucy Zeus(or Suzie) on Mount Olympus. These are only redundant in the description because in a single deck, the card won't be repeated. It's still a work in progress. I'm still having getting it completely error free.
@JeffTheHokie3 жыл бұрын
Also: For JH "Heart" and QH "Queen", do NOT use the bands in your mental image. Queen had a male singer, yet is represented by the Queen, and Heart has a female singer yet is represented by the Jack. Furthermore, Heart has a song and album named "Little Queen". It makes it far too easy to get the two crossed.

@danielmcpherson90622 жыл бұрын
It's been 2 years, so I might not be of help to you, but maybe to others. It all depends on what you're planning on doing, are you memorising them just cause you can (perfectly valid reason) or are you doing it for competitions? If it's the former, then do what you want. But if it's the latter, then I would recommend focusing on accuracy since (as far as I'm aware) in competitions, it doesn't matter if you've memorised all 52 cards, if you make a mistake on the 6th card, then you're only going to get points for the first 5 cards Happy memorising :)

Sonic is the ace because Sonic is a my favorite game character. Tails is 2 because he has 2 tails and he's always following Sonic, and 2 comes after ace. Etc Etc. Does that help?
@kberken5 жыл бұрын
Lol, Tiger Woods just won the Master's so your comment was funny that he used to be the king of clubs. But I really like your method. I used a similar process to memorize three graduate papers in theology for my comps. I broke down each paper into roughly 26 parts. For one I used letters in the alphabet. Another was numbers from 1 to 26. The third paper I used my room and objects as I walked around it that were in consecutive order as I thought about the room Then just made wild associating images for everything. We had to write without any notes for 90 minutes for each paper. They provided a clean notepad and a computer without internet. Immediately I wrote the alphabet and my 26 image words, then just wrote my paper. Same with the other 2. But I practiced in my head for weeks with just note cards till I had it down. Considering that I was 60 years old with not the best memory, I did very well and passed with flying colors and got my masters.

@NelsonDellis5 жыл бұрын
Does it really mean that? In what language? I never knew that.

Nelson Dellis It sure does and he really was - World War II Marine self made man honest hardworking ingenious funny - you’ll get a chance to meet him in heaven :-) And I think you have champion fibers as well! Again love your content - very upbeat positive strong inspiring interesting - keep it up for us mortals please :-) Here Is what I found: www.behindthename.com/name/nelson From an English surname meaning "son of NEIL". It was originally given in honour of the British admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805). His most famous battle was the Battle of Trafalgar, in which he destroyed a combined French and Spanish fleet, but was himself killed. Another notable bearer was the South African statesman Nelson Mandela (1918-2013). www.behindthename.com/name/neil And when you look up the origins of the word “Neil”: From the Gaelic name Niall, which is of disputed origin, possibly meaning "champion" or "cloud". This was the name of a semi-legendary 4th-century Irish king, Niall of the Nine Hostages. In the early Middle Ages the name was adopted by Viking raiders and settlers in Ireland in the form Njal. The Vikings transmitted it to England and Scotland, as well as bringing it back to Scandinavia. It was also in use among the Normans, who were of Scandinavian origin. A famous bearer of this name was American astronaut Neil Armstrong (1930-2012), the first person to walk on the moon. Have a great Friday!
