So roughly one week ago I decided to get myself a c125. I always wanted one and finally after over a year of putting every dollar away, I was able to get one. This video is intended to capture my initial impressions.
Spoiler alert, I love my little Cub.

Poppa Jack here,,still, believe it or not? I had to get off my Trophy 4, and then after a year or so, I just had to get back in the wind. I had a Honda 50, back in ‘62. You meet the nicest people! And I just loved it. Then one popped up on line, for the right amount of money, and Momma Jack convinced me to get it. I was just out of the hospital, I almost checked out, septic shock, they said. I was Lucky. It was awhile before I could even walk. Having the little red in my house is just the carrot this old mule needed. Now I must carry oxygen tanks, and stay close to my house, but I’m sure here to tell you that it’s a great day when I can get outside of the house and ride my bike for even an hour! God Bless America!

Have the same year and color. It was one of the best investments I’ve made. The one thing I don’t like is the compartment where the battery is located, it’s way to tight and congested with all the electrical wiring making it true labor to work on. Other than that it’s quite reliable.

It has a clutch, it's the shifter. To smoothly shift, press to change gear and slowly release while applying throttle.

When you shift gears hold the shifter lever up with your foot and slowly let the shifter down. That makes it shifter smooth because it actually acts like a clutch.

Why does the manual tell you to shift at low speed? Like it says shift into fourth at about 25.
@nemanjatosovic
@nemanjatosovic 2 жыл бұрын
@@curtgottler9961 those are just the recommended shift points. They prioritize fuel economy achieved atlow revs. You can obviously stay in 3rd even at 35-40, in fact 3rd can take you up to 50 but you should not cruise at high speeds in low gears it’s best to not stress the engine much but for overtaking and getting up to speed it’s fine to rev it up.

@@curtgottler9961 Honda is correctly giving their conservative numbers. My view is once it's broken in, it revs very strongly and has no issue playing in third, especially with traffic in Florida. With 4th, it can do 45/50 all day.

Great durable iconic bike you have there mate! I'm still using my uncle's Honda c70 Cub 1978 and up to this day it still runs.. About the shifting that jerks you said.. When you downshift, especially going in 2nd Gear you must press and hold then give a small quick throttle and then release the foot shifter.. In that manner there will be a smoother gear change.. That's how we drive "underbone" motorcycles here in the Philippines and Indonesia. Hope it helps

Thanks for the review. I'm really going back and forth between the Super Cub and a Royal Alloy 150, both with a nice classic design. I'm an older (late 50's) potential first-time rider. I drive a manual car, so shifting shouldn't be an issue. I'd mostly be driving this to and from work/store, etc. Maybe some country roads here in the Midwest. Any thoughts? How tall is the seat from ground? One thing I keep reading is that the RA is pretty high, though I do love the look. Also, the fact that the RA is not fuel-injected seems to be a negative. Thanks
@JohnDoe-xr5is
@JohnDoe-xr5is 2 жыл бұрын
I'm in the midwest too. That means you could potentially not be riding for several months in the cold winter months. Because of that, I would want a fuel injection engine. Ethanol (in the gas) can get gummy and sticky....and that clogs up carburetors. Yes, you can put stabilizer in the gas, but that's not 100%. RA is a twist and go CVT...SuperCub has gears, but no hand clutch. SC seat height is not tall. I'm 5'10" and can easily flat foot. If there's not a place to service the RA, I wouldn't touch it. I was a 1st time rider a few years ago, and about your age. The SC if VERY easy to learn on. Excellent urban run-a-bout as long as you never need to get above 45mph. I downsized from a Kawasaki 650. I wanted smaller.
@PraetorianMan
@PraetorianMan 2 жыл бұрын
Biggest thing: Do you know how to drive/ride a manual? If you don't, then do the Royal Alloy. If you do know how, or if you're willing to learn, then super cub. The super cub is basically immortal and nothing short of running it over with a truck will make it stop working. From what I know, Royal Alloy isn't a *bad* brand or anything, but its not a Honda either. Also the super cub can tank regular 87 octane, E10 gasoline. Most regular scooters from what I've seen really, really want high octane, ethanol free gas. Oh, another consideration. How are the roads where you live? If you've got ruts and pot holes in your road, you may want the Super Cub's bigger 16 inch wheels. I have a Lance Cali Classic with an 11 inch front wheel and a 12 inch rear wheel. I love it but... you can feel the bumps in the road.

I had a 1965 Honda cub. Of course at 15 years old I was 6 inches shorter and 20 pounds lighter. I doubt I could sit comfortably on the wee thing now. The Cub's 49cc engine could get it up to 45-50 MPH back then. Ironically with a engine twice the size, fuel injection and an added gear they are not able to get any better gas mileage or a much higher speed.

The super cub is a better bike, no question about it, but it will run maybe 2000 more otd. Navi is fun, easy to ride, will offer similar performance but not as well built and a bit more old school. If you just want something to learn on, something you’ll move on from in a few months, get the Navi, you’ll get more of your money back if you go new. If you plan on keeping it and using it fairly often, get the cub. If money is a concern, get something used. My suggestion, get a used cub around 2800-3000.. that’s how much a new Navi is but even a used cub is a lot better…
