The Worst Scenes of DEATH BATTLE! (Seasons 9 & 10)

To be perfectly clear, I adore this series. I did a video like this in the past and wasn't intending to do a follow on, however I wanted to help Biff Weed get a bit more attention on his accompanying video, so make sure after you watch this you go check out his video as well which will be linked below. Today we look at Season 9 and 10, and determine what are in my opinion the worst scenes in each episode. Spoiler alert, these got tough to really have anything to choose the further down we got.

I know you're only looking at the fights, but for me, Wiz and Boomstick realizing VS debating is subjective in the end is the best part of Goku vs Superman 3. That actually got me emotional.

@formallylander Look, I agree. You can't argue Deku beating Wally West no matter what, and you can't argue 2B beating Trunks no matter what. However, it's subjective FAR more often than objective. I've been into way more debates where both sides had different perspectives due to different interpretations of feats, statements, and hax where than I've been where everyone thought there was only a single valid interpretation. And there also have been more episodes of the show where I've seen people act like that than the ones where everyone agreed on a clear-cut power difference. I honestly can't even fathom someone wanting to not promote this idea. Acting like there are objective when they're mostly aren't only contributes to toxicity.

My least favorite part was where Rooster Teeth was shut down and this series is still left up in the air. I love Death Battle, I've looked forward to releases for almost fifteen years. I've had debates with friends about the results, I've argued for and against it, I've been thrilled when my favorite series has been shown and utterly crushed when others weren't. And I've found great channels like you and Biff who sometimes I agree with and who sometimes I think you're insane for your ideas (the Broly "I'LL KILL YOU" line being one of them, I really don't think outside of the delivery it's so bad). But I've always loved your vids, your reactions, your ratings, your rankings, even if I disagree you you a good percentage of the time. The only worst part of any of these episodes is that they still could very well be the end, but even so... what a hell of a ride it's been. Thank you to everyone involved, and Nem, thank you for being a part of my DB journey, you'll never know how much your input has meant.

Nah. It’s nuance. Good in bad and bad in good. To use a fun quote: To cast all as angels or demons is to have demons in Heaven and angels in Hell. Plus Biff gives us the good, so you balance each other.

Season 10 for me has no BAD points, just points I don’t really care for? Like idk, I would’ve found it hilarious and even more Overkill if Dimitri used Atrocity, Got a Crit AND a Crest proc. But that would’ve probably killed Guts out right so I understand why they didn’t include it because the Ending is just so peak

For the Yautja entry I never considered the ending to be him being dishonorable. I always just thought he knew it was a huge risk of him dying so he might as well do it just so boba or whoever else is on that planet doesnt find out about them. You know the intended purpose behind it.

That's a pretty fair point. If John dies before he can set it off that would be big a problem so better early then never. It's the fact that he mocks Boba before it goes off I get that's technically a reference to the first jungle hunter but considering that was retroactively considered irregular for a predator and a way more experienced Predator was a consistent talking point in terms of advantage. It still feels somewhat off.

How to fix Jason VS Michael’s animation and make it feel less underwhelming and disappointing in two steps: 1. Get a different animator. As much as I like DevilArtemis' animations, he didn’t really cook with this one. The character movements just look so jarring. 2. Actually have the fight focus on Jason and Michael fighting. Having them chase innocent bystanders and murder them back to back during the episode could have been cool on paper, but it was badly executed here because of how much it took up the animation’s run time. This would have been ok if this was in a full length film where they actually have more time to insert screen time for both Jason and Michael, but not for a Death Battle. Even then, the animation just felt rushed with how awkward the characters' movements are and how short the fight itself is when you remove the chase scenes altogether. Hell, they could have made this episode live action. It would have worked a lot better that way thematically anyway, along with how the majority of people I spoken to about the episode wanted it live action. In fact, I think that was what most fans wanted.

I get why it spread that the campers running was a reference to DBD since it’s more popular, but it’s such a clear reference to Friday the 13th: the game and that really should be mentioned more. It doesn’t exactly make the scene better, but I think it’s much more understandable how the scene got added since it references media directly related to one of the characters rather than tangentially.

As someone who's never read or watched Black Clover, I can 100% confirm that Asta was portrayed accurately, especially to his appearance in Deku vs Asta. It was scary how accurate that portrayal was.

The worst scene from Cole versus Alex was Cole surviving being stabbed by Alex surfboard sized blade almost like it's nothing when he almost died to a far smaller stabbing in the comics.

To be fair, The comic takes place before the events of Infamous 2 and he gets way more powerful over the course of that game with all the blast cores he absorbs, the fact that more he uses his powers the stronger he gets, and the RFI buff. The latter was the one used in the animation.

My personal least favorite thing about Jonathan vs Tanjiro wasn't a moment but instead the fact that Jonathan used his sword a lot, it's like having the Doom Slayer and make him use a gun for one attack and have the rest of the animation using the sword from Doom Eternal

I think you're exaggerating a bit. It makes a lot of sense to have him use a sword a lot in a duel against another guy with a sword, and beyond that it seemed like he got to use a good chunk of his powers. Just be thankful you're not a Metroid fan that has to suffer through seeing the same four attacks from Smash, that don't even work the way they do in the games, almost every time Samus is in a vs animation

I like to see that as Jonathan fighting with honor, as Tanjiro primarily uses a sword, so as a result, even though he’s better with his fists, JoJo uses a sword too until he’s disarmed and/or out of options. And it’s symbolic for his dishonor at the end of the fight, where he mortally wounds Tanjiro without his sword, hence without honor.

tbh I'd argue for Rick vs the Doctor the worst part is the weird Monologue they gave Rick after shooting the Doctor in his two hearts (which by the way since the big point in the post analysis they mention while Rick has referenced Doctor Who there's no evidence he's seen it so how would he explicitly know to hit him in both hearts and about the Regeneration?) it just feels very not Rick and just feels like they needed to give him something, so the Doctor could have his cool line. Just feels eh

To me, worst part of Cole vs Alex was Alex's weirdass mouth near the end, where he's got Cole pinned to the tower and his face and mouth just look unreasonably awkward. I get there probably wasn't a lot they could do, and it's by no means a dealbreaker, but it's HARD not to notice how dumb his face looks!

When it comes to Boba vs Predator, though "I've seen worse" would work perfectly fine if not better than what I was thinking. But I also have the feeling that instead of going for the generic movie reference that's pretty unfitting swear for a Star Wars character to say. I feel Boba should of use a Star Wars talored insult/swear like "You are one ugle Nerf Herders"

Asta vs deku characterization problems is just the inherent problems with death battles fight between 2 people who would never kill or fight each other. Cause there is absolutely no way to get asta and deku fighting to death without breaking someones character

Well as you ask time to rip asta characterization in his death battle for the 70th fucking time Tl’dr Asta is portrayed as a stupid jackass that would kill someone who is already dead that he should be able to sense them being dead when real Asta is a kinda dense but kind person that inspires the people around him to get better and asta shows kindness even to people who tried to fucking kill him not even 10 minutes ago Let’s get the one part that people say is out of character but isn’t which is the luck line it’s in character for him to compare someone who is fast moving with something that looks like lighting to his friend that does the same thing plus it’s a reference to how luck and deku have the same English VA so it’s fine (if your gonna hate, hate correctly) Now the biggest problem is how he’s portrayed as a dick head cave man with his first line being “I just have to hit him really hard” which puts him as a. To serious as he would more be excited just looking around and b. Portrays him as a caveman that strategy is just “it hard” when not only is he really battle smart but “hit hard”normally doesn’t work in black clover and the one fight where that was the case was because of a spell a character made that legit just throw hands till one person drops The three sword thing is something Asta has never done (as the only time he every held a sword in his mouth was when both of his arms were broken beyond repair and had a curse on them and asta was trying to use anti magic to dispel the curse) so the only way it can read it was death battle was trying to make it seem like black clover copy zoro’s three sword style ,because they tried to make it seem like black clover copy and the wizard king from the pirate king when they are only related by the fact that the name is (thing) king in Asta’s rundown The Detroit jokes could have worked but the way they did it is out of character with the (I don’t know what Detroit is but it’s pissing me off) being out off character. A in character version would be ( I don’t know what Detroit is but it/they seem pretty strong) Leibe is only ever shown in his chibi form or his demon shadow look never his true form (legit I don’t know why in the final rush down it didn’t show the real leibe (as asta is the only character in the show to have a mutual demon contract where they are actually friend as the Zogratis sibling there contract is more of a business deal) and this leads into why isn’t true devil union in this as it has been out for a year at the time and while it was his strongest form it’s more important as showing Asta bond with his demon brother, asta’s mom raised leibe, and it was there joint bond and want to take down Lucifero the demon that killed there mom that brought out true devil union( you can’t say it wasn’t out at the time or it wasn’t in the anime gear shift had been out for a month and it’s was mentioned and was in the fight) a better version of the final rush down would have been have asta get knocked back go into true devil union inspire deku to go all out after possible seeing true devil union making him double guess himself have deku’s bit stay the same but have asta show normal leibe and have their mom’s Spirit appear behind Now to the death and holy shit this is so out of character because Asta can sense Ki (which is life force) so he should have sensed deku was dead and even if he didn’t , HE WOULDNT HAVE FUCKING STAB HIM, as asta shows respect to even those who tried to kill him ,even saying about the man that broke two of his new friends leg and vocal cord ruining their dream and crippling his arms that he wish they could have understood each other as he could tell the villain was in as much pain A better death would have been have asta fall with his sword still in the air and have deku still alive and he falls asta then goes the catch him asta sword falls around them and then this interaction happens Deku: that was a good fight Asta: yeah but your not looking to good Deku: yeah but this is what you expect when you go all out Asta: Don’t worry I’ll protect this Detroit for you Deku: we’ll then you will need this( as he give asta a piece of hair to past down all for one) I will say it’s a bit cheesy but better than what we got And to explain asta character is that he is dumb but kind person who came from nothing and wants to help and inspire people for it but the actual death battle misrepresented him so badly that people think he like that he’s like that in the show (which was something you said in your Deku vs Asta review)
