My main concern would be if the floor space can accommodate 6' height - and the biggest Tensor sleeping pad LOL. Tensor Pad - Long Wide: 76 x 24 x 3 inches Tent Floor Dimensions 85 x 50/42 (L x W head/foot) inches Looks like it would fit ok - with about 9" to spare - so long as height of sleeping pad (3") doesn't have your feet or head touching condensation on the inside. I def would want to take a 2 wall tent - even if it's heavier - because I like looking at the stars. I think this is a good tent - a heckuva lot cheaper than the Copper Spur HV UL 2 ($550 bucks - not including the footprint!). Nemo Hornet is about $300, but doesn't include the footprint, either 🙄. But I would get the footprint, since it's handy to use when just setting the tent up for shade from the sun.

Awesome review. Glad to hear about the smokers and mice...I will have to smoke my cigars part-time in the tent. I just ordered the 3P for my thru hike. I like the extra headroom, and it will actually fit two people when my wife wants to do some overnight trips. My sleeping air mattress is 30 inches wide, so no way to fit 2 in a 2P. 3P is 13 oz heavier, but its still 1lb 9oz lighter than my old tent (Kelty Late Start 2)

Interested in knowing your thoughts or experience on the fly being cut higher at the head end of the tent. Presumably for weight savings? Looks like rain can drip off the fly onto the wall of the tent. Would also not seem to be as good for warmth in colder weather with the lack of dual-wall coverage in this area.

Good question. If you stake it out taut how it’s designed, it gets pulled pretty far from the tent and the water doesn’t drip in. Of course, if it’s a bad storm and the water is coming down at an angle, you’re prob screwed. And for warmth, I’m sure you’re right, a fly that goes all the way down would help a bit. I’ve used this plenty in rain and it’s been pretty solid. And the fly definitely helps keep me warm, just maybe not as much as a dome design. Thanks for reaching out!

I am looking for a backpacking tent that does well in the rain (PNW) that will accommodate me and a 25in sleeping pad and my 2 australian cattle dogs. Do you think this is big enough?

The hornet did great in the rain for me, but two dogs may be tough. I’d say a 3p would be more comfortable to be honest. I guess it all depends how cuddly you wanna get with them lol

I love the idea of free-standing tents, and i love the idea of trekking pole tents for how light they are. I'm really considering a tarp brand tent (only weighs one pound per person) They have a trekking pole tent that is also a free-standing tent using the same trekking poles. Magnet tie backs, and a optional second interior wall to help fight condensation is pretty cool too. About half the price of a Zpack tent as well. The only think that is holding me up on buying one is they seem to good to be true.

Tarptent Rainshadow 3 is the one we are looking at. It's a 3 person tent that weighs 2 pounds 14.5 onces. Thats the tent, pole, stuff sack, and stake weight. My son and i hike a fair amount, he is 6. He does 6-8 mile hikes well, and he could do more. Our goal is to start thru hiking this fall, and then the AT in 2025 or 2026. The wife might join, but that's a ? right now. If she does they have a 4 person tent to thats 4 pounds. Hiking with my son makes me think two things. Safety in winter, and light weight. I've heard good things about Tarptent. things like the weight, trekking poles can be used for normal tent use or as a free standing tent as well, and magnet tie sound easier to use in cold weather/or with gloves. The 3 person is a little under $400. Tents like Zpacks are more than twice that (yes they are lighter, but at $800 or $950 for a 3 person is nuts to me, lol. im sure that less weight also comes with being more fragile too), and that seems crazy to me. I just wish some of these companies like tarptent, hyperlite, gossamer, ect were available in stores. I hate buying blind online. We need hiker shows. think of RV shows, but with hiking gear. lol. Safe hiking, :)

I recently ordered this tent (not received yet). I was considering buying a trekking pole tent(Lanshan), decided on a pole tent because I often spend 2 days days at a campsite (not a through hiker) exploring the area using my trekking poles and leaving my tent set up. I also like the short length of these poles. 👍✌️🤙

I got this tent recently, and I have been having a hard time with condensation. As soon as I put it up, the rain fly is wet. By morning, the rain fly is soaked and stuck to the rest of the tent. It makes the tent very cold. Any idea?

The Nemo Hornet has 10D Sil/PeU Nylon Ripstop for the rainfly - which should be sufficient. All rainflys will accumulate some condensation - but how much will depend on lots of factors you control. During the night, your sweat/breath moisture will rise, hit the cooler rainfly surface, and condense - that's how it is. Plus, the general humidity in the air will cool during the night as well, and the rainfly will be one big cool surface for it to settle on. The very first thing to address is to camp in the right spot - if you are camping in very low areas/valleys/by water - then you will have soggier mornings. The main thing is to allow as much ventilation as possible, within reason (don't sacrifice warmth you need). You can increase ventilation by: 1. don't seal the rainfly bottom edge against the ground unless necessary - leave some space for airflow 2. Leave the vestibules partially open, and angle your tent so that a cross-breeze moves through the tent 3. Make sure the rainfly is snugly staked (does not shift) and taut (but not OVERLY tightened/stretched). A rainfly that is sufficiently taut will shed rain and condensation much better than one which is sloppy/slack. Nylon does stretch, and a soaked/heavy rainfly will stretch even more - resulting in sagging. Tents are designed to deal with some degree of sag by having good amount of space between the inner and outer wall - if you can't see that there is a good space allowance between inner/outer on all sides at setup, then adjust the tension in the rainfly/stakes until you do. If any part of the outer wall is touching the inner wall, that's a point for water to start dripping inside and pooling on the tent floor. Good luck!

Interesting, I haven’t really had that issue too much. I don’t do too much winter camping, and even during the AT I was out there from May - September. Are you using the guy lines on the back? That might help separate the fly from the tent

​@@direwolf_adventure still though, even in FL, camping away from the water would help - experiment. PackAndSoul nailed it - the guy lines would fix your sag issues - and keep you from pulling it too tight in other areas to try and compensate for not using them.

So dumb that they would call it a 2 person tent, but it's really meant for one. I set this up at REI with my wife and had to check the bag to make sure it was a 2 person tent. Very tight for two. Went with the REI half Dome sl 2+. Thanks for the video
