Once in January this year, I was reading in bed at night, listening to this playlist. I looked up from my book out the window and saw that my street was entirely covered in a layer of snow. I decided to go to sleep then but before I did I turned my reading lamp off and looked back out my window. School had already been canceled for tomorrow, and because I live in a 100+ yo house we had a fire going to keep the place warm and my room smelled of crisp burning wood from the fireplace downstairs. The street lights cast a warm yellow-orange glow on the white ground and street, as well as the snow continuing to come down on everything. The house was completely silent, everyone in my family was already asleep. I had never before experienced such a wonderful, calming, and peaceful experience in my life and I have yet to experience another like it. Thank you so so much for creating this playlist! I can’t wait for this coming Winter so that I might be able to do it again, perhaps with a warm drink this time around. 🥰

Growing up I never once lived in a house younger then my parents ( I live in the Uk so this is far from unheard of ) but when it’s late at night, the house is so quite that you can here the clock keeping time, the cat is asleep on your bed, there’s a natural glow of real fire, and snow and or rain is poring out side. It’s as if you have been sent to a whole new place all together.

I remember when I was a kid in upstate NY it started snowing late at night and I asked my parents if I could go outside. They said yes, which seemed so unbelievable to me to be outside alone at night. I remember how quiet it was. We lived in the woods in the Catskill mountains. Any other time I would have been terrified to be out there alone at night, but for some reason it was so peaceful I wasn't afraid. It was so quiet I could hear the snowflakes hitting the snow. One of my favorite memories I think back to. Your story reminded me of it again.

This reminds me so much of these big family gatherings. After playing all day with your cousins, all the kids would sleep like a rock, door slightly ajar and the adults would still be wide awake, laughing and having fun in the living room. I don‘t know why, but these days/nights were the moments in which I felt the most loved, safe and content with life
@user-bf5ou1rq1f3 жыл бұрын
Just imagine... its 1963, youre 7 years old you can sleep so you sneak to the bathroom with your teddy bear to get a glass of water. On your way there you see your mom and dad waltzing downstairs in the living room. Her head on his shoulder as they slowly rock back and forth. Your mom sees you out of the corner of her eye and calls you down. you walk down the stairs a ll slumped thinking shes mad and sit on the couch. Your mom asks "what are you doing up so late" and taps your nose. Your dad takes your hands and starts dancing with you as the music gets more upbeat. Your mom steals him from you and as they dance together you dance with your teddy bear. Your dad says "How about one more cartoon before bed". only 2 minutes in you start to feel your eyelids get heavier and soon you feel yourself drifting to sleep. Your dad picks you up and both parents bring you to you room. they both kiss you on the forehead and say "i love you" and "goodnight" then leave your room and close the door. you open one eye and whisper "i love you too" back.

Ten years later, 1973. You are now seventeen. Your father is in the hospital, your mother taking care of the household. The teddy bear you once had was gone to time-tucked away in the attic, forgotten. “I love you…” Your father says. As a tear drips from your eye, you say “I love you, too,” before walking back to your mother.

I live in New Jersey. I'm 15 years old. My house was built in the early 40s. We liked it a lot. We have the original flooring, fireplace and dashboards. Last Christmas while I was decorating our Christmas tree I decided to put on some music from your channel. I found this and I put it on. No one was home. Everyone had plans. My siblings and my parents were at a wedding and I was at my worst that day. My fireplace was about to die. When I listened to this playlist I felt like I transferred at my grandmas cottage in Michigan. She passed away a decade ago. But I still have this memory of us at Christmas. Making chocolate vanilla pudding with these songs on the radio and laughing together. She was a big fan of the mcguire sisters and Doris day. My grandfather was at the hospital because his father was sick. Now I'm "carrying on" The "tradition"

I feel like I've been here in another life, and I don't know how to explain this, but I miss it so much even though I've never had it. It feels like hiraeth. I live in a big city in Italy, but sometimes wonder if life would be better if I were born in a farm in the countryside of whichever of your states, with few but meaningful relationships, watching the sun set everyday on the fields. Would I be happier? Based on your comment, the answer would be ‘not necessarily’. I know it’s never that simple. My comment doesn’t really have a point, I just love to remember from time to time how we humans are all the same, at the end of the day. Wish you a happy life!

It’s eerie, but comforting, how nearly identical this soundscape is to my personal experience sleeping over at grandma’s as a kid... She would always play oldies music on her radio, and on summer nights there when my window was open, I could gently hear it coming from the open window from her bedroom down the hall. Thanks for making this :)

It's so magical that a person born after this era finds this unbelievably soothing. You have captured something so beautiful. I'm 50 but feel I have experienced this era just by listening. Maybe a young memory of staying at my Nana and Grandads? I was born 1970 and I'm quite sure they didn't play this style. It makes me feel safe, secure and sane. Thank you

“Hey grandma, what was time like when you were my age?” “Oh it was so amazing. Trips to diners as a teen, bar gatherings in college, and meetups with your grandfather, the star quarterback. God he was such a strapping young man.” “Yeah, he was.” *love you grandpa. I miss you*

i wish that i didn’t grow up in a family full of disconnect, personality disorders and fights. i never got to have any closeness with my grandparents and later in life when i tried to reach out to them our interactions never felt like family, they’re awkward and stiff and i’m always guarded when spending time with them. this audio is bittersweet as i get to put my headphones in and close my eyes as i fall asleep, imagining that i’m soundly sleeping in my grandparents house, with them playing their music in the next room over, smiling to myself as imagine them humming or dancing along to the familiar tunes. I get to escape and imagine a happy world where the rain gently patters at my window and lulls me into a deep sleep, calmly pulling me into a peaceful other world. another world where i have a warm loving family and soft, loving grandparents. i’m sorry for the rant, i just wanted to express how much this audio means to me. thank you.
