I love watching Masakazu Tamura as Nemuri Kyoshiro. As an actor, he seems to have a genuine noble aura about him. There was another Nemuri movie called "The man with no tomorrow" on KZbin sometime ago. A pity it's no longer available.

Here is some interesting trivia on Masakazu Tamura. When Raizo Ichikawa died, Daiei tried frantically to find a replacement. They found Hiroki Matsukata who then did two films as Nemuri. The interesting trivia is that Mr. Tamura appeared in one of those two films but as an ENEMY of Nemuri. It was then that a producer noticed Tamura and felt he would be good as Nemuri, so the result is this film you see here.

Ultimately, it didn't save Daiei Film, a giant in the industry that produced Rashoman, Ugetsu, Sanjo The Bailliff, Gates of Hell, the Zatoichi series and many more. They never really found a suitable box-office replacement for Raizo Ichikawa and went into bankrupcy in 1971. It's a shame Ichikawa died so young. If he had lived into his 70's, we could be watching "Shinobi no Mono 137: Wheelchair Ninja" or "Sleepy Eyes of Death 119: Grandfather's Sword of Doom".

WOW!! I absolutely Found this Video, to be a Great Movie. To show a Man of Integrity, and Honor! Sadly today We do not see that kind of Man anymore! To me a Samari, isn't only about Katanas', and Martial Arts! It is about an Ideal to Serve with living an Honorable Life! Please do not get me Wrong, about the training of a Samari, their Ability to fight is Legendary! Japanese Culture in it's purest form is Amazing, and Admirable! Thank You for this Video! The Actors were Terrific!

Nemuri Kyoshiro was one of my favorite anti-hero samurai characters, and Masakazu Tamura in this film and the other four made-for-TV films was a worthy successor to Ichikawa Raizo.

This 1998 episode titled "The Woman Who Loved Kyoshiro" in the 5 part series. It was 20 years later that Tamura made the next and final episode. Three years later he died of a heart attack.

Masakazu only did the leaning backward stance in these movie series. He never did it in the Kyoshiro series in the 70's. Also, his Kamon/crest here is a mixed of Christian crosses that looks like a mesh compared to the crescent moon crest in the 70's TV series.

This doesn't seem to be the real name. Looks like it's Nemuri Kyoshirō (眠狂四郎), a TV movie from 1989. It's the first TV special after the 1972-1973 Nemuri Kyōshirō TV series. There are 4 other TV special movies that follow this one. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nemuri_Ky%C5%8Dshir%C5%8D_(TV_series) It would helpful if there was the real name in both Japanese (and an official English translation if there is one) as well as the year of production. There are a ton of Nemuri Kyoshirō movies and TV shows, so it's hard to keep which is which straight if there's no information here.
