The Best Carnival in Panama

Today my favorite word is "insane." Because carnaval is insane. It's said that after Brazil, Panama has the second largest carnavals...and I believe it!
The past two days have been filled with this: food, music, dancing...the typical festivities. Because hey, when in Panama, you have to do as the Panamanians do, right?
Las Tablas, an otherwise small and quiet town grows several times in size during this week, as people from all over the country, and world, join in on this iconic tradition of Panama.
Carnaval is more than just what you see here though, there is rich tradition behind it here in Panama. So stay tuned for more history of carnaval...

Loved your video. And you are right! Carnaval IS about having a good time and debauchery. Its name comes from "carne vale." Carne being meat, and vale meaning OK. It's celebrated before lent, when the church doesn't want you to eat meat. My favorite time is that it's not celebrated after lent. As in, instead of celebrating that lent ended and one's free to eat and be merry again, it's celebrated ahead of lent.... just in case. Lol.
