NEO-GEO - 15 Great Games!

Thanks to the second hand market I could buy a NEO GEO with two games back in the '90s, when I was 15 and there was no internet, just newspaper with a marketplace section. I was living in Italy, Rome. I don't know how I managed to convince my parents to give me the necessary amount (which was high anyway). Games were Blue's Journey and Fatal Fury Special. I remember the previous owner was a fun 50 years old lady (!), with many consoles and games in her home. That was also the first time I saw a SNES with a floppy disc loader in the cartridge slot....

Because I had good access to arcade games of the time and half decent home conversions I don’t feel like I missed out in terms of gaming. But back then, you had to be rich to own a NeoGeo. I had a SNES floppy disk add on, a friend borrowed it to me for several months. Great times 👍🏻

So out of reach for me as a kid and still haven't got one. So lucky to live now with the world of emulation. What a machine. This, PC Engine and The Sharp X68000 were/are mindbogglingly astounding. Great video.

My best friend's older brother managed an import game store near Seattle when we were in school. We'd stay up all night on weekends playing KoF and Fatal Fury Special after he got a NeoGeo... absolutely stunning at the time. The care in the art always blew me away and made me think so much western stuff looked goofy in comparison.

God bless emulation. These games were limited in scope but were so much more fun to play than the majority of todays dross. Back then developers had to focus on the fun.

I know very little about this console. I just knew it was the console to have, it was regarded at our school by many as the crown jewel of the then gaming era. The games I’ve chosen probably won’t be many peoples favorites as I think the people who bought this console were adults or rich teenagers and bought it purely for fighting games. Where I’m more of a shoot-‘em-up nut 🌰

Yeah, be grateful that MAME team did A LOT of work to replicate the hardware correctly and put it in code so we can run in PCs.

Here is what you need in Neogeo if you want actually to play it. If you are very poor or just get started : - Fatal Fury Special - Samurai Spirits 2 - Real Bout 1 - Super Sidekicks 2 - Kof 95 or 96 If you can afford - Real Bout Special or RBF2 - Super Sidekick 3 - Samurai Spirits 4 - Last Blade 1 - Kof 98 or 2000 If you have more money than common sense - Garou Mark of the Wolfes - Any Metal Slug - Pulstar or Blazing Star - Last Blade 2 - Any Kof after 2000 Everything else is "optional" if you can find at a good price.

@@ClassicReplay to be honest there are no many neo geo non commercial games, and only few require attention. Although NG:DEV.TEAM release was controversial -many still claims should and deserves to be included in the canon of NeoGeo.
