Hi guys, I'm back again hard at work trying to rip even more instruments. This time I'm completely revamping my Neo Geo sound pack, ripping ADPCM-A and B samples from almost every single game that existed on the system.
The reason it's going to take so long to finish, is I am equalizing all the samples (Making sure the volume levels are consistent), and also looping them as best I can.
I am also making sure each sample has the correct pitch coded into the file itself, so that they can be dragged and dropped straight into a soundfont and play the right notes in the keyboard.

As of today I have only finished off 1990, I am working through all the games in order of year they came out. As the hardware spanned games all the way up to 2004 this is going to take me a while to finish. so that as I grew up playing Neo Geo MVS games, their songs are very striking, with this update to the Neo Geo Remix pack, there will be Remixes of the songs by Akatsuki Blitzkampf Ausf.Acse and En-eins Perfektewelt Anastasis, as they are with a war and fighting game theme, a sound mix of Metal Slug and KOF would go down like a glove.

For the metal slug 3 samples i noticed there arent any drums. Would it be possible for you to get the drum instruments and snare samples as well? Either way this is amazing i ❤ this!

Nice work mate! Have 2 questions 1 = How did you find the correct hz for the ADPCM-B samples? Years ago i did a similar job to you but just for voice samples (from songs and unused voices) but i calculated the sample rate by trial and error... allegedly there's a method (explained by ValleyBell from VGMRips) by calculating the Delta-T Prescale High + Low numbers and other stuff but i just can't find where those numbers appear T_T (tried Richard Meyer's vgm from VGMRips' packs, used VGM2TXT but no "prescale" info appears) 2 = Related to that, i checked your Google folder, ADPCM-B, KOF 95, SFX, KOF 95 (22).wav and there's a speed issue in here... sound (voices*) goes way too fast, should be way slower (those samples are from both the intro and Saisyu's stage, just in case it needed to be said :p)

I just ripped all the B samples at the same rate of 18500 the same as the A samples. I didn't have the knowhow or time to change the rate multiple times and it would have probably taken over a year if I did a variable sample rate Unfortunately I'm on the same boat as you, I just took a shortcut to get them ripped asap😁

Great job! in my opinion: what else is new? for ripping tunes I like as ADK World heroes fighting games, data east fighter's history dynamite, Sunsoft's galaxy fight: Universal Warriors and Waku Waku 7 my most favorite request soundfonts, if I wait looking forward samples and instruments.🙂🙏

Oh hi mate! Me again. Was reading you were having trouble with the ADPCM-A stuff from the Nazca games. Assuming you still haven't fixed it, can you tell me the name of 1 or 2 specific songs of a game you're having trouble extracting those samples from? If i find the time, i wanna see what's the issue about. Kinda rare for the "A" samples to not act as they should

Hi mate, it was actually the whole game sadly as opposed to any specific songs. Every single one of them, Turf Masters, and Metal Slug 1 up to 3. I managed to extract drum samples by isolating the Vgm files in Foobar, but in the ADPCM Encoder, the A section only allows you to extract them at 18500, which is supposedly what the samples are locked at for ADPCM-A. My theory is that those games are different to the other neo geo games and use different/varying sample rates for every sample or something. If you extract them using the Encoder and listen to the results you will understand what I mean it sounds horrible like really loud white noise. By the way it's not just the Nazca games, I also had a similar issue with specific samples in a few other games (the later games like kof2001-2003, SVC chaos etc had a similar issue which makes some of the samples sound distorted and they "pop" at the beginning ruining it

@@TheLegendofRenegade Sorry it took me a while to answer. Was extremely busy ripping Neo Turf Masters' voices. So i got some time and tried the decoder to do the easy way and rip the samples but nope... sounds like crap. Tried hex editing but nope (long story to explain) so i tried the 2nd to last way, extracting them automatically from the VGM files and it works... no need to hex edit or stuff BUT i found some issues. The .wav i'm sending you below are all the "A" samples of Metal Slug 3's char select... you'll notice the guitars and everything else sound okay except for that one sample before the guitars... sadly i had to go so i can't do further testing until tomorrow or after it but i tried different methods and the noise stuff can't be avoided (for now) Is it the file itself? The decoder? No idea so i'll have to run more tests in the following days so you'll have to forgive me T_T (have to start ripping Samurai Shodown 4 voices now) Note = The issue with this particular noisy sample i had it happen with one song from Art of Fighting 1 that i used the same exact method of automated sample ripping. Off the top of my head, the songs with the guitar samples I wanted from MSlug3 were "midnight wandering" and "kiss In the dark", but any help that you can give is appreciated. If you want you can email me how you did the auto extraction method and I can try and rip some stuff too

@@TheLegendofRenegade My bad, lol. Forgot to tell you how i did it. Just unzip the .vgz then use VGM Toolbox's advanced file cutter (a tool that comes quite in handy if you know the "magic words" for files packed into one big file, be it textures, sounds or whatever... used it many times) Use 67 66 82 (hex) as a magic "word" to search, then the "Terminator" string with 67 66 (hex again) What this does? Tool searches the file and starts cutting when it finds the 67 66 82 part and it cuts the file up until it reaches the next 67 66 string then i stops there. Then it repeats the process until the end of the file. It's all fine and dandy but there are 2 issues that i need to check/solve 1 = According to Valley Bell, if you extract from the VGM itself (like i'm doing) you need to cut from the start of the sample until the end of said sample. I still need to double check some stuff regarding this but i did notice 2 things. First, what you ABSOLUTELY need to do is to remove the 67 66 8X (2 or 3) and the bytes right next to it that tells you how big the sample data is. Example = If after the 82/83 you read 4F 00, it means 4F00 is the sample data (warning = Numbers are in Little Endian, which means they are "reversed") so YOU NEED TO DELETE the 67 66 8X and the sample size info bytes because if you use the decoder while those bytes are present, i can guarantee 100% the decoded file sounds like crap (i use the normal byte cutter afterwards on the files and cut from offset 07 or 08 until EOF, end of file. Maybe i'm wrong but i think you could do this in the advanced cutter... forgot the option... been so many years since i used these tools) 2 = If the automated tool finds a 67 66 value BEFORE the proper end of file, sh** may happen. I didn't have it happen to me YET but it's better to be careful. Maybe adding the 8 to the 67 66 Terminator string may help avoid premature cuts And for last, regarding part 1, according to Valley, you need to cut the 6 or 8 bytes after the sample data info but i haven't done it and the recordings sound the same regardless. Just like if you cut thd sample data right up until the next one... let's say the sample data is 4000 bytes but there's like 4/6 bytes afterwards BEFORE the next sample starts, i left them in there and haven't noticed a problem. Do note this whole paragraph is something I NEED TO DO FURTHER TESTING SO DON'T TAKE IT 100% AS A PERFECT SOLUTION so be careful Sry for the long text but until further notice, that's as much info as i have so i hope to indulge myself with more testings when i find the time

Yes you can use ChipsynthMD vst to rip the patches from vgm/vgz files (these can be found from vgmrips)

@@JackTheGamer3 I'm never going to rip FM patches as samples as it defeats the whole purpose of what FM is about. You should be able to freely manipulate the sound as you wish and created new patches by playing with the operators and soldiers. If you want preset patches I would suggest buying chipsynthMD as you will then have access to almost any neo geo instrument you want. There's no such thing as a free alternative as far as I'm aware for Neo Geo FM patches sorry bud

but.. the YM2610 didn't support sample looping. that's why the instrument samples are so long. you don't need loops for this (it seems like you cut out the actual ends of the samples too)

I understand the looping of the samples isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I personally prefer it for my own remixes as I don't go for 100 percent accuracy

@@doktrin343 unfortunately it's too late for that I've already saved them in looped format.. this was such a humongous job that I didn't want to release them until they were looped. Someone else is going to have to step up to the plate because I'm burnt out after doing this
