Confessedly-I have never seen his paintings in person. Perhaps it would have been fair to restrain from having beien so disdainful. My main impression of viewing this video is that especially the works on paper cancelled each other out, due to the sheer volume of them included. Editing is such an essential skill to help a viewer better concentrate without becoming exhausted.

Thanks for taking us around this Neo Rauch - very gifted artist 👍 the curious thing about his work is the obtuse consistency of his poetics and the development of his own visual codes

Neo Rauch "Neo Surrealist" Interesting imagery, I'm sure there is a narrative about each finished drawing and painting. Would have enjoyed hearing from the artist, himself, they to explain them. Thanks Kate and James

In my fantasy house I have one room that features 3 or 4 wall sized Neo Rauch originals. I think there is also a respectable sized tank of African cichlids and a comfy chair for reading.

I think of Thomas Hart Benton, with the compositions spiraling through the urban scapes...and the attention to human industry

An amazing show. Great to see such early work from the early 1990s. If I recall correctly, he break through came around 1998 with the international audience. So, this would be after his schooling and while he was working as a professional artist in the east?

Thank you James. Really interesting and beautiful paintings. I wonder what kind of paper Mr. Rauch is painting on? If it is unprimed, it makes me wonder what kind of conservation concerns one would have.

Imagine being trained and capable of academic art before you start doing free expression using those skills.......very nice. Joan M would be scoffing at this stuff !

Another example of a highly lauded artist that managed the pull the wool over our eyes. Such a putrid vision of the world. The drawings are overwrought spider webs of impotent marks. No selectivity in display which may have redeemed them somewhat. I only feel limp and drained from all his work.What is the hype all about Neo Rauch's oeuvre ?
@eriknieminen5 жыл бұрын
Have you ever seen one of his paintings? This is clearly meant to be a show that dives into his process, and perhaps that accounts for some of the works that have more the "impotent marks", as you put it.

@@eriknieminen I appreciate what you're saying; that this exhibit is meant to "dive into his process " for ultimately his painting. I will rewatch the video to see if my perspective is the same.

Special art, at least one can say it is original. For me it reminds me too much on communist and socialist propaganda posters from the early 20th century. The art work is for me a friendly colourfull version of communist propaganda. The anatomy of the bodies and the gestures is present. I would not buy it. Only for lovers.
