This game really did feel like a hidden gem. Got it for cheap at gamestop, having no idea what it was. Ended up being one of my favorite experiences on the PS2, which, given how many really good games were on it, was real surprise.

One my favorite games by far. It certainly wasn't perfect, but it was the perfect game for me back then. There was something about its melee combat - it was just so fluid and satisfying, with the d-pad-based special moves and solid hit reactions. Can't believe it's more than 20 years old. Just wow.

Thanks for uploading this! I was suddenly feeling nostalgic for this game and it’s really cool to hear the developers talk about it bit. I remember it being pretty difficult, but super atmospheric. It’s kind of shocking there hasn’t been another dragon game with a similar vibe.

I’ve been trying to find a dragon game for years. A game where the dragon is the protagonist or is intrinsically linked to the protagonist. I had no idea of this game’s existence and randomly found it on an emulator site. I’m happy to say I’ve found my dream dragon game! I would’ve played this endlessly as a kid and I’m currently loving it as an adult. It gives me Eragon (the book series) vibes and I love that! Why hasn’t something like this released since 2002!?!? The closest and most recent example we have I suppose would be Century but that game has so much wasted potential it’s gross. It’s a crime this game was completely forgotten and never popularized because outside of the dragon aspect this game has a lot of features that were ahead of it’s time. It feels very modern for 2002. Combat has a rough Dark souls feel, swimming is a thing lol, seamless dragon flight and land traversal, load times are quick and scarce, graphics and draw distance holds up for it’s time, fast travel exists, and the camera for the most part actually works! It’s not 100% perfect but close to 80% or 85% in terms of accessibility and refinement. Since remakes are such a trend now where’s this games treatment? Definitely deserves it but I’ll still gladly enjoy it as is because the story and lore are quite interesting as well.

I played as a kid and for the longest time I thought this was some fever dream from a sick night. 😂 The human-dragon interaction and combat variety was *chefs kiss* and each new region felt creepier than the last, from my fetus aged perspective. Very enthralling game!

It's an older game I completed it back then and it needs no they must remake it improved and work on a new one from all the games I played so far none can beat this even in it's older state what comes close is Skyrim but not all the way.

I found this game in a preowned game bin on sale, something like $12(more than 10 years ago). It's the only copy I've ever seen in person and it is by far the best game I have ever played(and honestly I feel like it's not even finish). I was going to keep going on about this game, but, imma just go play it instead :3

The majority of us can agree that this game needed a better advertising campaign than what it was given. I was lucky that my brothers saw this game and picked it up because it had a female heroine that looked like Lara Croft and bought it based on that. Had that not happened back in 2004, I wouldn't be here today with over 90 videos of Drakan content. Drakan: The Ancient Gates is by far one of my favorite games of all time. Things I didn't know... - What I called the Grull are Hughes (Don't know the spelling, but I will probably still call them Grull just to not confuse my fellow veiwers). - Arokh is pronounced Airokh (though in the NA release of the game, he is pronounced "R"rokh or in between Airokh and "R"rokh) - Rynn's brother is dead (I thought his fate was more ambiguous given what I heard from those who played the first game) - If the bat dragons were able to perch on the mountains, they would look like birds from a distance Also they wanted, "players who play the game more to get more involved with the controls and use them more in an expert mode?" Well we've unlocked legendary mode thanks to a fellow KZbin creator IntrovertedOwl, It's insane what he's been able to discover using Drakan's combat system.

They were going to continue her brother storyline because at the end of the first game there's an evil laugh while the brother is falling at an endless dark pit. Also in the first game the dragon is called more like "Ae-rok" as in "aesthetic".

Damn i just need to download an emulator and play it trough again. One of my favorite games when i was kid. my crossfather had a ps2 and buy this game for cheap money. He never thinked he find a damn hidden gem there. grapich was damn good, the adventure the music the story, there was hidden secrets and you can collect items so its rewarded you if you explore... nothing better what a kid can play at that time when we had only a ps2. :D Im surprised no one want to countinue the story the game, or remake it. sad.
