Nice video, Just One question: if you put a SD card class 10 on the neo geo cd It Will have boot and loading of the faster than the SD card that you put on the adaptor or not? I'm brazilian and liked your video.

What I've tested is that slow SD cards sometimes boot correctly but doesn't load the games properly. Other than that I don't have several sd cards to compare speeds but I guess a faster card may improve speed loading times a bit (until it reaches the limits of the original hardware)

I would recommend placing a small amount of hot glue to the board that clips onto the chip. This will prevent it from moving out of place, and hot glue can always be very easily removed with some rubbing alcohol, so it is not permanent. As long as the glue is on a smooth surface and doesn't wrap around something or get into small nooks, it should be as easy to remove in the future as brushing it with alcohol and pulling off the glue dots.

So the end demo is the same neo CD with SD loaded but you can also load a real CD for demo purposes or was that pre installation?

There are 2 types of mod, one is an ODE which replaces the optical drive and the other allows to use both the ODE and the original CD Player, this video has been done with the mod that allows both, you can use the CD as well as the ODE.

You're right, one keeps the CD drive working and the other replaces the CD drive unit completely. This video is an E revision board installation keeping the CD unit working.

I have the time for Magician Lord: Cd loading time 37", 0.5 firm 15" and 0.6 firm 15" it depends as well on the sd card speed, sometimes 16" and sometimes it takes 15" but it is too close to even notice.

Yes, it would be nice to play AES, but I think Furrtek did a great job. The nicest improvement for me it's the loading times.

Hello! Thank you very much for the excellent explanatory video! But I am curious: what would happen if the user did not solder the 5 wires on the Neo Geo SD Loader board? Because, as far as I'm concerned, it's basically replacing the optical drive with that of the SD reader - just as it does in Dreamcast with GDEmu and Saturn with Phoebe. I imagine that, in the case of Neo Geo, we just wouldn't have the differentiated menu and the unblocking of regions. In other words, the video game would probably be "stuck" in the original language - which would even maintain the welcome originality of the menu. Does the reasoning have any logic? Thanks again in advance.

Hi Johnny, yes you can skip the 3 cda wires if you want to, but don't skip A and B wires, these wires are the chip enable on the TOP-SP1 (M29F800 compatible pinout) and I think that will cause bus collision with the mod...

Just got the SD Loader today, but I reached a bump during installation. The CDDA cable on my console is very short (8cm) so it would not reach the SD Loader board. I had to add an extension to the cable to make it long enough to reach the board.

Yes, I've seen in Furrtek's page some models require to extend the cdda cable.

You can always buy a 3 Pin JST audio cable and use it for connecting directly to the connector on the motherboard.

It's worth trying to learn. I was the same but it came a time when I got tired of paying others to do solder mods, so I tried it myself. I have since done PSIO switchboard installs, Xbox TSOP, Saturn Mod chips, Gamecube US/JP switch/Xeno chip installs, Atari 2600 AV mod and just recently a XStation install. I'm going to try this Neo Geo CD one soon.

I am keen to do this but this damn Neo Geo CD mods are way too difficult for beginners and this pin lifting is a nightmare of a job. Here in Australia is also hard to find someone that can actually do this job 🤦

hi, my screen still show the normal neogeo cd menu after kit installation. what could be wrong? There is a rom dump file in my SD card after boot up.

Ok, have you formatted your sd card in fat32 and downloaded the wad file to the root of the SD? Once it is done it will take some time to make the rom dump file to the sd card, if the original bios is loading once the firmware is updated you must check if the A and B pins aren't in contact and clean the 68k pins were the mod socket is placed as well. Is the led blinking in green during boot?

Kabuki Flux yes, the loader started blinking green and blue upon start up and loads the normal Neogeo cd menu after that. So the problem could be the loader not completely pressed on the 68000 chip? Or pin 12 not soldered to loader correctly?

I think the blue led blinks only while programming the firmware on the mod, try another sd card just in case before opening the console again.

If you talk about loading times this solves everything. Games like Kof99 went from 53 seconds of loading time to... 10. Legend. Then, if you don't like SNK (how can you? :) ), that's another story.
