I’m just about done with PSA. Gonna start using SGC. PSA 10s in general are what raw go for when I send them in by time I get them back.

I find it funny that centering is so important to the grading companies. Isn't that the ONE quality of the card we can plainly see with out their "expert" opinion?

Centering is the top eye appeal feature either way. PSA seems more particular on corners imo

In the past PSA was a bit easier on centering harder on corners. Now PSA has become tougher in general.

Just had a 13 card sub pop at PSA…I had 4 cards they listed as “N6 - Minimum Size Requirement”. These 4 cards we from 3 different sets and 2 different sports. Two of the sets were Topps Chrome and the other was Mosaic football. I am now terrified to send anything else in to them, I may just be done with grading all together.

I will definitely change what I send in. Recently PSA 9's sometimes sell for less than raw. I will definitely be more strict on what I am sending in. Currently I typically don't send things in unless I think it will get a 10.

My complaint on my recent return is they way overcharged me for insurance & shipping. They had all cards valued at $400, when I know I had them at $125. I’m really going to really think hard about any more submissions to PSA.

Evidence from several content creators suggests that PSA standards have gotten a lot stricter recently. I personal tested this theory on a few cards and validated it with SGC. I am a collector and not particularly fond of PSA slabs. I was submitting a few cards to them for resale. Maybe 10 to 15 cards total in the past year. However, based on my recent results and results from other content creators, I am done sending anything to PSA. CGC and TAG slabs are much better in my opinion and I trust their grades more than PSA. Just my two cents.

They're Also , used to be language about an example of when a grader would allow sixty forty and it gave a specific example of a vintage set with a light yellow border that you could barely see

If we're honest, did anyone really believe a 60/40 centered card deserved a PSA 10? I always simply pass on 10's that I see are not flat out 50/50 or extremely close. The market has for a long time now refused to pay full value for PSA 10's that are less than 50/50 and if you get into 40/60 land, it looks bad to see in a 10 and should be deeply discounted from a typical 10 sale.(ie. a nice 9 valuation). @5:50, I agree with NEO, I don't even bother sending in anything that looks worse than 52/48 unless its worth sending and getting a 9.

So the net of this language change was to document what I believe was likely already occurring internally with the graders...60/40 cards look bad in a PSA 10 and weren't making the cut anyway.

What really bothers me is that the letter they sent you states "this has long been the ideal centering threshold to achieve a PSA 10 grade". This implies that that they were looking for the 55/45 although what they put in writing to the public was 60/40. Millions of cards were picked and paid to be graded by PSA under their parameters that centering needed to be at least 60/40 or better for a chance of a 10. Ultimately it is up to the grader, but if internally they were looking for 55/45. This is outright DECEPTION! We were all mislead! I'm curious what an attorney would say about this. I'm going to reach out to Paul Lesko for his thoughts. Perhaps NEO can do the same. That would be a very interesting video.

I’m totally fine with PSA tightening up their centering game. We’ve seen a lot of people post badly centered 10s on social media recently, plus what it should hopefully do is kick the butts of Panini and Topps to improve their quality controls. How many times in recent years has a new product come out and nothing has a chance of grading a 10 because the centering is clearly terrible ?

For your modern and outre-modern kiddies this means nothing because 60/40 wasn't getting a 10 before... For us vintage geezers this again is just confirmation of what they've been doing anyway... The real head-scratcher for me is that those old 10s that were 60/40 are going to look even weaker going forward a few years from now when many of us forget that the standards were changed...

I recently got two cards back, both PSA 10s, but they mixed up the labels on them, so I had to send them back. They just sent me an email asking me to agree to the terms and provide a max declared value for the cards. Im curious why they would do this? This is their mistake, I hope im not being charged again and I hope they dont change my grades

Are there any good Android apps that you can scan a card and find out the centering of a card? I've tried using the little card things and am terrible as figuring it out

If your card has obvious borders, look up Edge grading centering tool. Upload the image to the site and set the inside/outside borders and it calculates percentages

I’m pretty sure pre Covid that PSA was 65/35 for centering to get a 10. That’s a big difference, and it also means there’s a lot of older 10’s that wouldn’t get 9’s now. Their 10 standards seem to be closer to black label over the last few years.

A couple thoughts on this “change”: - It’s not really a change at all - they’ve been grading harsher for a while now and this change in centering criteria just reflects what they’ve ACTUALLY been doing already for a while. So, it shouldn’t change too much about how people consider which cards to send in, as they’ll continue to be graded as they have been for a couple years now. - It’s fortuitous timing that the off-centered Wemby black finite 1/1 was graded before this official change in centering standards happened. - So, now PSA has gone and “Becketted” themselves! By changing this stated standard, now all their older graded off-centered PSA 10s are now worth less than newer ones under this newly tightened standard. It will be interesting to see this change in the market moving forward. They will have to honor their old, original grades, or else pay for the value loss with their “guarantee”. 😂 Fantastic video! Thanks for keeping us all informed! I also hate that this was pulled off sneakily, and not outright announced. It feels dirty somehow.

Clearly this puts upward price pressure on existing PSA 10s, everything else being equal, especially for cards that are out of print or from sets in which the sealed product is no longer made.
