I do have some questions that aren't answered here: 1) How do you travel across the city --> 9 stations means there'll be 21km per stop. How do you get from that stop to your house/place your going? More trains? Buses? Maybe really fast walk ways haha 2) How are supplies & materials brought through the line? Every day shops, restaurants, bars, cafes need to be restocked with fresh produce. 9MM people require a lot of products --> I assume they're gonna build some high-tech, cooled, airport-like conveyor belt system with insane levels of technology to make sure everyone get's their products fast, on time, in tact, across multiple levels? 3) How will Ambulances, Firetrucks, Police travel through the line? Will they have their own 'level' of travel? Or maybe just use helicopters because they're so ecological :D 4) Maybe.... you should ask/answer any practical questions rather than getting Saudi updates & updates from people profiteering from this insanity and then getting pictures off Instagram, which literally mean nothing... But what do I know, I'm not a youtuber making money from the Saudi government

Yep the line is supid. I am now going to watch that other video. The line needs like 100 tunnels just to function. My best guess is 9 million people 9 main stops are like airports. With in each section will be 100s more lines that run between stops and so on. There is likely to be hospitals for every 25k people EMT for every 5000 people and so on. I do think that a single line would allow a station every so often. One thing is clear people are going to have to live everywhere. There can not be residential living areas in one area. Needing to limit travel to just a couple stops or less. For example if you live in line 1 section 10 sub section 8 you might work in sub section 9 which is only a short walk or quick train ride on specfic train. The sad thing is these train tracks need to be oval shape. So that way you can keep the train moving non stop to all the stops. F For example if it takes 1 hour to do a whole loop and you need 15 min loops then you need to have 4 trains along with several spares that you can put in to service if there is a problem. You will also need a way to clear the train if it breaks down. Plus what type of train system are you going to use and so on. Each of these things wear out and you can;t have broken trains.

I think The Line city is doomed but the marine areas look promising. What a lot of you don't realize is the diving and water clarity are really stunning in this part of the world. Oddly they don't even mention that. Of course those enormous yachts with all their pollution will ruin it close by but farther away it will still be spectacular. The ski resort is beyond stupid of course. But the resorts carved into the rocks are very unique. This area of the world is quite warm in winter so it could be a huge destination for affluent Europeans and not so far geographically. People with smaller jets may be able to reach it non-stop. I'm sure this is their aim in putting most of it in the north part of the country.

1. A helicopter is absolutely not more carbon friendly than a truck and crane. 2. All the NEOM projects are NOT 20% complete. More like 0.2%. 3. The transport system of the line still does not make sense, and will still NOT be able to offer 20 min end-to-end service. 4. Octagon makes no sense, and will never be built like that. A normal port might be built. 5. All the luxury resorts makes no sense. Who should stay there? Why would you build unneccesary and expensive structures in a desert, and market it as “eco-tourism”? SA is wasting all the money put into this nonsense. Imagine how much clean water, useable infrastructure, education and healthcare the poorer population could get, if the wealth was spent responsibly?

I am one who believes in humanity, moving forward and growth and opportunities for everyone. The architectural display of these projects are beautiful no doubt, simple, simply beautiful. By the time these projects come to fruition, the world may be different with various changes in thought because of generational changes which may impact new ways of thinking. Let’s hope that it is truly positive, supportive, and for the greater good. If this happens, one can only hope that others meaning, the less fortunate will also have better opportunities. Obviously, this is not for every class, but can help promote the lives of those who may be assisting in the making of such beautiful structures that may be the inspiration for a new world

I've been following the Neom: The Line project since the first announcement. I'm interested since it is a very large project, and it seems that humans are doing fewer big and bold things these days. This one has the distinction of being funded by a vast well of capital, so it has a better chance of actually happening. Good to see progress, however, so far it does seem to cater mainly to the wealthy, but this may be necessary just to get the project started. I hope that the project can build on this momentum to get to a scale that ensures it's success.

The more I think about it, the less feasible The Line seems. If they want to keep the city encased in 400m of glass, they’ll have to build insanely expensive spaces. Like a train yard. The trains have to go somewhere everyday. They’ll need a loading dock somewhere on the outside or underground to process all the materials going in. Not everything can fit on trains. Every city has farms, factories, warehouses. Those are BIG and will cost insane amounts of money to put inside The Line and it will take absurd amounts of room to store and process.

Glass is the cheapest building material, it is made from silicon which is a significant percentage of sand. It is an unlimited resource for the Saudis. As for movement, rapid two way metro system can easily deal with all of that. They are building two bidirectional transport lines, a high speed rail with large capacity for longer distances and electric pod system for localized travel. Everything a residential cluster needs will be within the latter systems reach. There will be no reason to travel further than 2-3kms from your residence in any direction.
@ZBGregory

@@VarietyGamerChannel high speed rail can’t carry steel. They will have to find a different means of transporting the billions of tons of building materials. I assume they would use helicopters, which defeats the 0 carbon emissions pledge. The stadium they want to build, it doesn’t even fit within the line. They have to break the structure to fit their stadium within the structure. I really want to see them pull this off. They will have to engineer solutions to a lot of issues. A lot of techniques and technology that doesn’t exist yet

These projects seem to rely on tourists to reside in hotels. They are all luxurious, suitable for the rich and corporate guests. I am wondering will there be enough residents at the hotels in the long run to make them financially sustainable? And what are these people going to do in their time? Will they have to stay inside the hotel or there are things to do around the hotels to entertain them?

Siranna, I have to admit, sounds breathtaking. Arriving by water through canyons. That sparked my imagination. I am HIGHLY skeptical. Trojena being ready for the 2029 games. They are building a lake, 60km of brand new city on a mountain. I don't see it happening fully by the games. Transporting a whole city up a mountain to build an olympic site. It's a stretch. All of these ULTRA LUXURY destinations, we will never get to visit, the world will only get to see these places in photographs. Sucks for us. They are relying HEAVILY on the Ultra wealthy to keep these projects from going bankrupt. Just like Dubai, they will require a reasonable sized economy to support. Where is it going? So far, on the majority of these projects they have started, they have moved dirt. Lots and lots of dirt. Just dirt. I'd guess they've moved about 5-10% of the dirt at The Line and 5% or less for Trojena. They are moving montains. Sindala will likely be completed. Seems like an easy project. Not sure how successful. The market is fairly saturated with Ultra Luxury destinations. Oxagon will be succesful even at 75% completion. They will need the port for all the materials they are using at these construction sites. Leyja is, is doable but inconvenient. Limited shops and restaurants. The nearest city would be 20+ miles away. Epicon, I don't see it happening. Not in the next 20-30 years. Utamo, I don't see it happening. 2300 people walking up and down that hill every day. The grand hall will be near impossible to keep it structurally sound. Norlana, just another ultra luxury project. Where are these billionaires?! Zardun, as a resort. I don't think the rich people will want to walk 2km to experience premium eco tourism. They'll want cars. Aquellum, I don't think we can do that with today's engineering practices. Keeping mountains from collapsing is very hard and almost impossible overtime. PICK ONE: If I had to guess, I would say pick 1 of the ultra luxury projects to see completed. Norlana is the easiest of them. I WANT to see The Line be successful. With the Oxagon and the rail line, it makes The Line possible. They've created supply chain infrastructure which makes the project feasible but will not be on schedule.

maybe when nature's wrath shuts down some parts of the kingdom, the kind king would once again pull out the magic wand of unlimited funds and say if you lot go to the Line ie your new residential address and can get Guiness to verify 9 million for global PR then we will call it a fair trade or the not so green hydrogen deals of extracting failing production parts of the kingdom to the Line with special deals brownied from the building process...land, approvals, construction contracts that's 90% of the value so the simple fact of 'moving' folks from A to B will already have compensated for the mind blowing amounts for the project area. (kind of like the code: thou will now have 1.x magic wands to do the next citizen saving Aladdin Ultra magic)

It won`t. I have done some calculationa on that. With only 2 stops (each 60 seconds) along the 170 km stretch, the train would have to accelerate at world-record rate (more than 1.7m/s^2) to 1.000km/h between stops to make the journey in 20 minutes. This is more than twice the current world record speed for trains.

So 100% for the 1%, 0% for the 99% .. sounds like a fantastic waste of money that could feed the world for 100's of years.. This is the biggest waste of resources so the Uber rich can have fun and try to forget that the rest of the world is suffering and yet making them $$$ at the same time!! Funny how that works!!

Some of you might remember the same story with Dubai. Back in the days when there was nothing but a region of Deira where most of the workers/construction workers live now. They had a huge plans for Dubai that they have accomplished successfully! Same happening with NEOM, which is interesting to watch since technologies have progressed and prices went up. Much higher than it was back in the days in Dubai.

Dubai now is like for everybody kind of a place 😅 how funny it could sound, it is still for wealthy, but NEOM will be for much wealthier people and for different types. And yet again most of the investment comes from the UK as it was in Dubai. It is clear as day since the only one property company that operates there at the moment is knight frank

Okaaaaaaay. These technologies are in their infancy. The desalination plants alone have yet to be tested. They don’t have the technology to recycle the brine that’s produced making sea water into drinkable water. That brine is biohazardous. They want to break it down into its fundamental components and sell/use all the materials extracted from the brine. None of that has been done before. The tech doesn’t exist.
@ZBGregory
@ZBGregory 2 ай бұрын
And it’s A LOT OF BRINE. Israel has the largest desalination system. The brine pits are nearly full. They have nowhere to put the brine. If it goes into the ocean, it kills everything nearby.

FROM THE GUARDIAN APRIL 2024: "It was billed as a glass-walled city of the future, an ambitious centrepiece of the economic plan backed by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to transition Saudi Arabia away from oil dependency. Now, however, plans for the mirror-clad desert metropolis called the Line have been scaled down and the project, which was envisaged to stretch 105 miles (170km) is expected to reach just a mile and a half by 2030. Dreamed up as a linear city that would eventually be home to about 9 million people on a footprint of just 13 sq miles, the Line is part of a wider Neom project. Now at least one contractor has begun dismissing workers....."

A drop from 42 or so train stops to 9 is considerable. How do people get around. They have money to burn and this is what they may do. The problem with many of these is that the natural scenery is not welcoming. Dubai looks good in photos when you can't see the sand everywhere.

Despite scientific & economic critiques, I want to approach the NEOM from another way: SA has got a lot of wealth through oil. Also it is the starting region of ISLAM. But in recent years, MBS (and nearly his ancestors) is going to change this story. If you have a close look to Mecca & Medina you'll see dangerous changes that oppose the spirit of Islam and if The Prophet (pbuh) would live today, surley blamed the Saudi Royal Family (I saw these changes from saudi accounts on twitter). Getting friendlier and friendlier with Israel (which there isn't any doubt in its occupational and genocidal acts against Palestinians) is another dark point on the white clothes of MBS. MBS & all muslims in SA have to pay attention that life isn't all about "Dunya"! Do not forget "Akherah" (Afterlife). Allah and Mohammed (pbuh) will ask you about your duties as a whole nation (which is fighting with the Allah's enemies; Not building such a shit projects that everybody laugh at!). God will ask you "I gave you such alot of wealth, but instead of helping oppressed people of Gaza and defeating Israel, you built such meaningless apartments..." So what will be your answers, Saudi Muslims, except silence, shame, etc. ?
