I love love love this episode, probably top 3? 2 very human stories among our flawed cast, all tied to the broader theme of being unable to understand each other, and being unable to understand oneself. The way the adult conflict in the episode mirrors the kid conflict is *chefs kiss*. Love the way Anno plays with being late 20s, having acquired much wisdom and being capable of reflecting on one's past, appearing as a rock towards impressionable kids, but at the same time still being susceptible to much of the same shit. Anno's signature editing is back front and center here, abrupt cuts and long holds, erratic, uneasy, almost sarcastic/teasing towards the audience. the wedding sequence cuts I especially love, and yes, I had the same thought during the Misato in the alley cut LMAO. While the child and adult sequences juxtapose well here, both of those intimate storylines together also juxtapose with the larger than life nature of the plot revelations of multinational corporate conspiracies, and of course the sequence at the end, especially with the slow drip of info, everything there give's the impression of being the tip of the iceberg of something so big as to be out of the scope of comprehension for both the audience and those characters we just studied. Episode 15 is extreme micro and extreme macro. My jaw dropped after seeing the crucified eldritch god in the basement lol, the mix of judeo-christian occult/apocalyptic imagery and naming with heavy sci fi and technology will never not be cool to me. And man, don't worry about catching everything, no spoilers but you're doing a gob job with your theorizing
