My baby girl had jaundice, but they saw it right away, so they put her in “phototherapy” at the time, for three days and then was fine...It does happen quite a lot with a lot of newborns, as their little liver gets used to being on the “outside”, but I hear you. I was panicking, too, and also crying a lot, even though my ex-husband is a physician...😣 She’s 34 now, and has her own little one!!😁 She is SOOOO CUTE!!! (Your “madame”)!💓💓💓

I can imagine the feeling of not coming back home with your baby. Thank God yours was temporary my elder sister didn't come back with her daughter. Just fever and before we know it was something the hospital called convulsion 😥😥. We lost her at six months. It's a long tale but God is doing his best for her. Am happy for you and yours. Happy that believed your instincts. My niece had just a few hours of body temperature change. We all thought it would go but it did took her. Sad, painful, yes but we are doing well. Please dear mother once you notice even a tiniest bit of change run to the hospital and see a pediatrician. Well done ma'am. Am sorry am sharing this here, I just want to encourage someone not to overlook any intuition or change. #xoxo

Same with my elder sister's baby daughter too. It was such a sad experience. After discovering it is jaundice, doing blood transfusions and putting her everyday in the phototherapy box, we still lost her on the night of her naming ceremony. I'm just so happy that sisi yemmy and little tiara is well past the horrible jaundice experience. My sis and her baby wasn't so lucky😭😔

Baby jaundice is quite common. All my babies (4 of them) had it. They never had to stay over at the hospital though. We did phototherapy for just a few hours and went home to do sunlight therapy every morning. I never worried or fretted at all ooo. They were fine in about 3 days. I had my babies at 39 weeks, 39 weeks, 37 weeks and 37 weeks. I came home without a baby once (a stillbirth i had in 2012) so i know how you felt seeing her empty cot and everything....even though yours was only temporary. I'm glad everything cleared up though. Tiara is gorgeous!

My son was jaundiced and I knew from day 2 or 3 but everyone said I was overthinking it. He didn't need the phototherapy we were advised to breastfeed. He is 4 now and after 6-8 weeks of breastfeeding, his eyes were nice and bright

Congrats once again, Sisi Yemmie and welcome Tiara. One way we advice parents to check their new born babies for jaundice is to take the children out of the room (and poor lightening) and into the sun where you can view the baby's colouring clearly and detect jaundice ASAP. This should happen about once or twice a day, until the babies are about 2 weeks old

All 3 of my kids had jaundice at birth. My 2nd child was the worst. She had to undergo phototherapy as well 5 days after her birth. We had her naming ceremony at the hospital! The good thing was the hospital placed a phototherapy unit in a private room and I got to stay with her throughout. We were there for about 4 days. My third child, we took her home and gave her unripe pawpaw water in tiny amounts for about a week.....cleared it right up! I was a skeptic but it worked for both my no. 2 and no. 3. Well done Sisi Yemmie, you try o. That must have been so tough. Thank God!

She is so beautiful hun! My baby girl is 8 weeks old and I had a scare with her during labour! So I wanted a water birth...(my Mum rolled her eyes at me all through my pregnancy We are Sierra Leoneans lol). My dear the day of this girl poo pooed in my uterus and swallowed meconian (poo). She ended up in ICU and I couldn't go to her straight away 🙈🙈🙈 there was fluid on her lungs and I was so so besides myself my dear. I totally hear you with the worry and powerlessness that can be felt...although I could not have prevented that during labour I had to abandon my initial plans and surrender to the specialists to take care of her. She's now a beautiful bouncy unique amazing little girl who runs the house. I'm so glad your babygirl got home all well and better 💗💗

Thank God she's better now. I can imagine how you feel mama,it's not easy. I had a similar experience but in my own case she had an exchange blood transfusion (Ebt) and she spent 11 days in the ICU. That was the most traumatic experience of my life because I came home everyday without a baby and the older one was always asking of her... But we're all good now. I think mothers should be educated more on this because like you that was my very first experience. I had never seen someone with it before. BTW Tiara looks so much like Tito....

It's the Crazy Life of A Mum...That's why my channel is called that😁...My first child (my son) had jaundice...just after being delivered he had to be moved to the neonatal unit to be given same therapy... He was kept naked with just his diapers... He was so fragile and my heart ached for him😞... To stay close to our baby, my husband and I slept on the corridors of the hospital for quite some days since there was no room for us there...My son had to be brought out at scheduled times to be Breastfed and I also expressed milk into a bottle for them to give him...I was totally stressed out... It's not something a mother should experience after delivery😖...But thank God 😊 he made it through...He's five years plus and a part of the Crazy Life of A Mum channel show 😀 The guy has so much energy that we still can't believe he was the fragile child in the neonatal unit... Sisi, this your story time reminds me of God's mercy to my family...And thank God for his mercies towards Tiara 😊...Such a lovely baby 😍

My own baby was born premature 26 weeks (715g)to be precise and she stayed 4 months in the hospital in an Incubator...I cried because she is my first born and to have such experience and far away from home (live in Germany) it was a trial time and i had to put all my faith in God. Fast forward to day she's 14years old and very healthy to the Glory of God almighty our miracle worker. Thanks for sharing Sisi.

I had the same story with my daughter. The best thing for babies with Jaundice is that they need to also be fed alot and the bilirubin passes through their poops. In the U.S the parents stay in the same room with baby, while the baby gets phototherapy. I'm so glad that you are bold enough to share your story. I'm telling you what we go through is not only for us, but it's to help others. Thank you!

Jaundice is very common among newborns. The newbies liver is unable to break down the bilirubin and therefore the high levels of bilirubin in the body makes the skin and the eyes yellow. One may noticed this in 3 days old babies. This can be treated by exposing the baby in sunlight if it’s a mild case

I was told my daughter had a mild one at birth... we did exposure to gentle sun rays (morning and evening) for a few days and on our first hospital appointment... Dr said she was okay. I thank God for indigenous knowledge that work. Thank God for your daughter too. God will continually keep her!

Hey there, SisiYemmie, I"m so happy that your baby girl recovered and returned home. In America Yellow Jaundice is somewhat common. Needless to say the mothers here feel just like you did. They hated leaving their newborns in the hospital. These days parents can stay with their babies in the hospital. My granddaughter was 9 months old and had the flu. She had to be hospitalized for a few days and both my daughter and her husband stayed at the hospital with their baby. I know this made them feel much better. Either way, we still just have to trust God. Your children are so beautiful and I'm happy the family is together as one. Your baby is so alert and observant. One time I was traveling from Georgia to New York and this African couple were sitting across from me on the train and their daughter was 7 months old and walking all over. I was so amazed at how smart and advanced this pretty little girl was. Your baby reminds me of this beautiful little girl. Wishing you and your family the very best of everything. Love you :-)

It’s the most difficult time for every mum, and yeah coming home without a Living Baby has happened to me as a Mum which was the worst time of my life. Being a Mum really opened my eyes were a lot. Thank God for your intuition. A lot of Mums don’t know about it . Thanks for sharing.

It's good you're sharing this Jaundice story oo, this is the first time, I'm hearing this, if this is common in Nigeria, how come the Medical Reseachers with Midwives in Nigeria are not doing Jaundice awareness as part of their Ante natal care. Tests should be carried out on all Newborn babies for Jaundice prior to being discharged from the Hospital.

Tiara is so beautiful. Every Woman is blessed with intuition. A special intuition and especially mothers, but some women are not in-tuned to it, so they might just dismiss it as some temporary annoyance. This intuition that God has blessed us with is very very good, and it would help you to even feel when there is something wrong with your child all the way across the world, and you are not seeing him or her, but you feel it in your bones. Sisi Yemmie, you are so right to have watched every thing about your baby. So many mothers do not do that and when things happen they blame themselves later, for not paying enough attention. I am so glad that this story turned out very well and we are able to see your beautiful baby become 3 months going on to 4 month old soon. Thanks for sharing your story. God bless you. Please kiss Tiara for me , from her virtual auntie Dee. 😆I'll keep your family always in my prayers.

Wow that means the bullibrium level of the jaundice was really high, thank God you took her on time. My twins are 5 months and their level was 178 and they said in order to get phototherapy on South Africa the level has to reach 250. And they were extremely yellow, we had to treat with sunlight and breastfeeding every hour so that they poop out the bullibrium. Man it was hard. I know what you went through. God bless you and your home. She's beautiful

A mother's instinct should never be discarded. My baby was in NICU for 25days. Worst days of my life. Not sure how we all pulled through those days. She's 5 months now and the happiest baby I know. My instincts told me there was an issue but d nurses thought I was paranoid till we were almost loosing her. I'm grateful to God and happy for you sisi Yemmie. Mothers know best

This brought back memories. My son too was diagnosed with jaundice and we were both in the neonatal ward together. He was preterm and seeing him blindfolded under the light always made me cry. Thank God she's back and better..I remember when my last baby had to go for an emergency surgery two weeks after birth, to correct the urinary track.. Right in he's bladder.. It was traumatic, sleepless nights, months in the hospital..hmmmm..but God saw us through..from when he was finally discharged, there hasn't been any cause for alarm..All tnx to God.. Wow, a mother’s instincts sha! Sisi Yemmie, perhaps you succumbed to the power of fear. On the other hand, it might be good that you learned about jaundice before you had her and that put you on alert and therefore perked your ears in noticing her yellow eyes. Thanks for sharing and a lesson for us all to not overthink stuff and entertain fear. My two brothers were both jaundiced and spent time in the hospital after birth. The younger one was even transferred to LUTH while my Mom was still recovering from her C-section (this was back in the day-the boy celebrated his 40th this year). My Mom was so sad and scared...she wasn’t herself for the how many days. Both were so sick, they were not even at the baby’s naming. My brother was named in absentia. Tiara is already moving her neck quite well. Strong madam!

Sisi Yemmie thank God you observed that early enough, thumbs up! ....That made me remember how i also observed that my baby was tongue-tied while she was crying on the second day after delivery and thankfully the doctor cut it off immediately. I learnt it can affect a child's speech if not cut on time or may require like a minor surgery if the child grows a bit....

I had the same experience with my first child, his own was very high and it made him weak I almost lost him. But thank God he didn't he is fourteen now. Jaundice is a serious liver problem that shouldn't be ignored ,if noticed by a new mum she should report it immediately. Thank God Tiara is OK now,may God continue to take care of her.

Mummy...I am with you...so I was born with jaundice, mum and I got home on my naming story. As if that wasn't enough I had my daughter and same exact story repeated itself, except that I did the naming ceremony in the morning at the hospital then she was discharged in the afternoon. That was the naming ooo, it was hubby, my pastor and I through the window. I could not put myself through that naming stress, I just kept telling people there is no naming ceremony. Dear daughter was born at 3.8kg at 41 weeks, she was admitted within 12hours of birth then 3 days later jaundice was detected you can imagine the stress. I could not go home oooo The photo therapy made my daughter cry so much. That said, you look really good.

My baby was jaundiced and thank God it was detected almost immediately. He went into phototherapy for about 4 days. It was easier for us because we had a private room and the machine was in the room with us. It was really painful and stressful to watch him.........we took turns keeping vigil although the staff were really supportive. But after hearing yours I feel we had it easier. Cant imagine leaving him there. He is 2 now. Then I don't think it is ONLY about the term. I had my son at 40weeks and it was a planned CS too(although not planned from the very beginning, hence 40weeks). As per naming on the 8th day......lol You MUST NOT do anything biko. Health first. My cuzin had her son's naming ceremony right there in her private room in the same hospital. His jaundice was extreme.....had to do with blood. She delivered at a Gen hospital but had to rush him to where i had my son because i had a better experience......so there was no way they could have taken him away cos the condition was critical. Thinking about All this now has made me thankful all over again. I woke up stressed but I feel super ungrateful after thinking back at how well God has been kind to my family. Thanks for sharing sisi. Kisses to Tiara. God is your strength, well done.

I also had Jaundice as a baby, my mum told me I was rushed to the hospital on the day of my naming ceremony because she just wasn’t comfortable with how I was, she said I wasn’t crying, I was just there and she knew something was wrong, I was in the phototherapy thing for a week and she said it was the most devastating time for her (I’m first of 3). Am so glad ur baby is alright she is so cute😍😍😍 Let me just use this opportunity to educate people a little. Jaundice in newborn is usually arises from breakdown of normal blood cells leading to bilirubin. Bilirubin is usually mopped up by the liver and excreted out thru urine and feaces. In newborns the type of bilirubin is the unconjugated one which crosses into the brain and affect the brain (this doesn't happen in adults) leading to a condition called kernicterus which will cause the baby to have cerebral palsy. Because newborn have high blood mass and not well developed liver they are prone to this condition. Now there can be physiological (normal) jaundice caused by things like breastfeeding, this are usually not too serious and usually clear by itself without treatment. This would usually arise from 2nd day of life, will not rise to very severe levels and clears up by 2 weeks. There is the pathological (abnormal/diseased) type which may start from the very first day of life, can rise to very dangerous levels and would not go away w/o any treatment. This are usu caused by condition like: when a child is born prematurely, when Mother's and child's blood are incompatible like ABO and rhesus incompatibility, infections, children born to diabetic mothers and so on(there is a long list of this). Basically it's important that every mother should always check their child's eyes and any index of suspicion abt something not right should never be ignored. Usually jaundice is treated either by phototherapy(fancy word for special light that helps break down the jaundice into simplier form the body can excrete) or by exchange blood transfusion(used when the level of bilirubin is very high). Children that develops kernicterus will have long term challenges including delay in normal Dev. Seizures and other complications can arise.

I went through jaundice with my second baby. What nobody told me was that breast milk actually helps. And she was born at 36 weeks, so maybe that contributed to her having jaundice in the first place. Thank God for Tiara. Well done Sisi.....

Wooow. Thank God you noticed on time and she recovered well. I was shocked when i found out on youtube that mothers of premature babies have to leave them in NICU and go home empty, sometimes for months. In multiple babies, sometimes one would go home and the other still stays in NICU

It’s physiological jaundice,it’s normal in newborns,it happens 3-4days after birth-phototherapy -helps get rid of excess bilirubin level, There’s also pathological jaundice but that happens immediately after birth(first 24 hrs)

She is such a cutie. It’s weird that your doctor makes you keep track of the procedures you have while pregnant. The doctor’s office should keep a file in their computer system for every medical procedure you have.

I was going to say all newborn babies have a small degree of jaundice so not to worry, but it’s good that you saw it was more serious and went to get it checked out. I’m glad she’s okay, I know how scary it is when you see your baby in a hospital

Exposing your baby from birth to morning sun rays would help reduce the bilirubin levels in the blood though not direct sunlight

They said we should chew on sugarcane during pregnancy, they said it helps. I really didn't know jaundice was a liver problem and was that serious. I thought it was just one normal eye problem. Kai God is faithful

Thank God for well equipped hospitals that help treat life threatening illnesses. Thank God Tiara is okay, in as much as it is hard to leave infants all by themselves, be grateful to God for her nurses and her full recovery.

Am glad your baby is alright. I had my baby at 41 weeks and he still had jaundice. He was treated with photo therapy but it was painful to watch him being pricked all the time for more tests. All the best with your little cutie 😍

I also noticed after the third day that my little girl's eyes were turning yellow...even asked my hubby if what l was seeing was yellow and he said something like that but l quickly went to baby center about jaundice in newborns...it said it would pass after three weeks and that if it doesnt take the baby to the hospital....but to the Glory of God it passed in a week n now her eyes are bright even at 8months..

When I had my son, I wasn't sure of my lmp as well, jaundice was diagnosed. We were together in the hospital for 6 days. Left the hospital a day before the naming ceremony. The hospital charged us per night. As they were treating my son, they were making sure I was using my drugs. God bless and keep them all for us in Jesus name 💖💖💖

Neonatal jaundice is a quite common illness, my brother and I had jaundice as kids. My mother is a pharmacist so when she saw yellow eyes she knew to take us to the hospital. If you see yellow eyes, please take your child to the hospital for phototherapy.
