I recall my last mountain biking in Napel was 28 years ago. There was no mountain check point at that time. We need to apply a hiking permit by reporting our trail to police and go. We hired a local guide and a couple helpers and they followed with jeep to back us up. The scenery was beautiful, people were friendly despite living condition was hash in the mountain. Amazing thing was there still coca cola for sale at 3500+ 😋

@@tritotravel - it was actually a lot easier. There were no cell phones or other fragile mobile electronic nonsense to weigh us down. There also was no Internet tempting us to do research before leaving. So we could just throw our camping gear on the bike and go. Simple and great. :)

I'm amazed at how many villages had power lines everywhere, and also the frequency of "checkpoints" along the route. What. is their purpose? I thought the music added a lot to watching this.
@tritotravel
@tritotravel Жыл бұрын
Thanks Frank. the checkpoints are an official way to track the visitors and their location. Also servers as a "control" point for ensuring all tourists pay their fees and have their permissions.

Good question! Probably it would have been more comfortable on a mountainbike during the descent. We were on a 1 year trip, cycling through different countries. The gravel bike was the most flexible choice for all different environments (from beautiful roads in Brazil and Armenia to rough gravel in Nepal and Tajikistan).

Yes, quite some on the way. They want to make sure everyone is doing well on the way at the same time they want to control the permits. It is also helpful to control where people are on the circuit in case of any major events as the travellers data are registered in the control points.

I think that the major issue that may occur on big bike travels far from home are muggings because they are gonna take all your money and documents and you will be in the middle of nowhere with no one to help you and nothing to eat.. Do you set any backup in case it happens?
@tritotravel
@tritotravel Жыл бұрын
It is indeed something difficult to project and plan... Generally in countries like Nepal, Armenia Tajikistan this is not an issue at all as the these countries are very safe. In countries like Brazil we did have copies of our documents somewhere else. Per example: we always travel with 2 passports; one we have with us and 1 we deposit somewhere ( friends, hotels, family..) also have copies of documents on save clouds help in case you loose everything.
