Newar Food: Beaten rice, potato-green pea pickle, fried Chana ( a kind of bean, Kikärtor in Swedish) and grilled Bufalo meat. It lacks Woh (a lentile burger) in order to fulfill a complete Set of Samaybaji. Enjoy it !

It seems you did enjoyed the food. But was not that spicy? Dhanyabad...

The dish you eat, actually contain 84 ingredients so you were having just a portion of the dish not the whole authentic dish ( in a cultural way) as we often eat..... The dish is know as samay baji ....... anyways nice to see you visiting Nepal, your videos has inspired me to go for food hunt ............

Excellent, thank you for sharing that with me, I had only eaten beaten rice once before in India, but it was cooked, so I had no idea what to expect from this. Yes, I sometimes try to ask how to eat the food (or I watch someone else eating it), but at this particular restaurant there weren't too many others there, and the vendor just motioned me to eat it, so not sure if i ate this correctly or not!? But it sure tasted great!

Mark, have you been to Cambodia? I was there and in Thailand in December last year, and the magic of Asia - the food, the people, the temples - really hit me, and I am returning this November. In Cambodia, I think you would like to try Chicken Amok and Khmer Pancakes. Thank you for all your entertaining and informative videos, always enjoy watching your adventures.

The rice is pounded while it is young. I believe they roast it as well - it gives off a nutty flavor. In the Philippines they harvest, pound and roast the rice while it is somewhat green and is usually used for desserts or sweets. Mark, when you are new to the area and trying the various cuisines, do you ask how the dish should be eaten?

Hey, yah, it is very common for food in this area of the world to be handled with hands and money as well. I'm never too concerned, and usually just accept and go with it, and normally haven't ever had a problem. That being said, for someone that knows they don't have too strong of a stomach it might be wise to be more careful. For myself, I love eating so much, and enjoy trying new foods so much, that I can't resist!

ab202012 I have eaten both Nepali and Indian beaten rice, the texture of beaten rice is bit different so Nepali beaten rice can be eaten dry also. In Nepal there are beaten rice dishes moistened in water too :).
@Sojerothetenkin1019 жыл бұрын
Mark, the buffalo meat is actually bbq'd using straw and then tossed with spices, green onions and mustard oil. Its like a bbq'd buffalo spicy salad. I think its the Newari version of a juicy spicy steak ( if there is such a thing). Either way, its mind blowingly delicious. ·
