Harikrishna was the highest finishing Indian at the World Blitz Championships 2022. He scored 13 out of 21 and also gained some rating. His finest performances came against some of the best players in the world. He beat Caruana and drew against MVL and Anish Giri. In this game he was pitted against the World Championship contender and one of the strongest players in the world Ian Nepomniachtchi. The game is very exciting with Sicilian being played and Black king stuck in the center. The end of the game is also quite heated with both players down to their last few seconds before the game was decided.

Firstly Hari is not a dirty player. Clearly Nepo was both very upset and frustrated with himself that he could not convert what looked like a crushing attack but Hari defended brilliantly. The incident happened at 7.59 and I genuinely believe it was just an honest mistake as by the time Hari had processed what had happened he’d already pressed the clock and then when realising what he’d done apologised immediately. Chess is basically a war game and in war they have an expression ‘the fog of war’ - I would put this incident down to ‘the fog of blitz’:))

@tomasseeber
@tomasseeber 26 күн бұрын
@@sportonjob6110 no, sorry. If you don't have the mental ability to see it yourself, you will believe everything was unintentional, because you think like a regular person, and not like a chess Grand Master. You may pick up a piece, knock another piece down, and only notice it after you pressd the clock; but a speed specialist has time to think about it and make a decision. Another Grand Master knows this, and will tell a Grand Master he's being dirty. If you do the same thing against Super Grand Master Nepomniachtchi, he will only smile, because he knows you don't have the mental speed. So this is about the most obvious one. Another one you can see, near the end, Harikrishna picks up his queen before his opponent pressed the clock. If you watch the video in normal speed you won't notice it, but again, Grand Masters know the difference between grabbing your queen on your turn and grabbing it on their turn. This is very hard to notice, but a correct player always moves away from that blurry line, into their on time. Becauase after all, we try to make chess an elegant respectful game; which we should try to maintain even in those momens of rush. In lower levels, some players do all this repeatedly, but after 10 years at the top of world chess, Super Grand Master Nepomniachtchi is used to more respect of the limits. That's two. But if Super Grand Master Nepomniachtchi says 5, and you only see 1, you did well by asking; but I wasn't paying enough attention to see other "slips".

For those who did not understand what happened : Nepo : "Play more dirty next time" Hari : I did not play dirty, its sliped. Nepo : "No" Just editted my answer ( My Reply If I was Hari) : Yes, will play more dirty and thats none of your business. Context : Hari knocked the piece at 7:55 (accidently) and nepo got disturbed. From what I observed was queen d2 was a brilliant move since it closed the attacking area for white queen and this totally changed the game for Hari (his attacks starts from there).

It shouldn't go unmentioned that if Hari had fixed the bishop before pressing the clock, as he's supposed to do, he would've lost on time. As it was, he pressed the clock with one second left. Whether it was intentional or not, I don't know, but nonetheless Nepo would've won on time if Hari had played according to the rules. That said, there was no need for Nepo to exaggerate/lie. The pieces didn't fall five moves in a row. It was twice, and it wasn't in a row.

Dude you can tell, that hurt Pentala. Look at how caught off guard Hari is. Hari is literally speechless. Ian could've just called an arbiter. We ALL know Nepo wouldn't have cared if he figured out how to convert his winning position. He was stuck on auto when he was winning and then Hari actually took time to calculate wtf was going on and how to get out of it. Magnus either would have called an arbiter immediately, or let it go. Anish would have laughed at the end of the draw. Ding would have remained silent with full understanding that it was unintentional. Naka would roll his eyes and call that arbiter IMMEDIATELY. Dubov wouldve mentioned it in a snarky way if asked about it, but he wouldve been more upset at himself for not converting. Ian is the only person that would neglect to call the arbiter; continue to play bc he knows he has a sizeable advantage; fail to convert the position; and then accuse the other guy of playing "DIRTY" immediately after he realizes its a draw 🤣 We're all rooting for DING now 👍🏾

For people blaming everything on Nepo, please go through this match of Yoo vs Hari kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXmsfqGYaLp0j8k. At 7:57, Hari stopped the clock and called the arbiters when his opponent made the same mistake. On the contrary, Nepo let it go and didn't make a fuss about it like Hari, so of course he was angry at the end. I know now someone would comment on this that Nepo could have stopped the clock as well but had no right to call him a dirty player. It wasn't a dirty play but Hari did put Nepo on the spot as him stopping the clock and calling the arbiters like Hari did would look bad on his part.

Not sure how you can say 5 slips when only 1 slip happened ( for which Hari immediately apologies ) , it looks more like a frustration call as he could not convert his sizeable position. @@binor1666 This is incorrect. In the last move he touches the queen a moment after Ian hits the clock (check 9:48). At 7:55 Hari indeed accidentally knocks over the bishop and immediately apologizes. Maybe he would have lost, maybe not. Nepo could have called the arbiter and claim 2 minutes, yet he didn't do it. Thus, he had no basis to complain after the game with some imaginary "5 slips in a row" bs . Let's be honest, he was just salty after not converting a winning position. At 9:22 Hari indeed drops a pawn and takes it with another hand. It's a minor mistake because the piece has been already down close the rim. He does it on his time.
