You could even base an entire campaign around places of power. The campaign could up end feeling like Avatar: TLA or something similar, but the campaign's premise could center around returning items to those places, or removing items that weaken their power (or corrupt their auras). It would also require exploration by the characters, force them to see the whole world.

@@Nerdarchy hey, Ted may "you know" a lot, but he is a pretty genuine guy. I think we will keep him.

I love the idea of having places of arcane or divine magic that more quickly regenerated spell slots, so students could learn and healers could run an efficient hospital

Yep, The veins of mystra. What better thing to use for magical location? Other than the sperpent ect.

@@lorekeeper685 I’m picturing the College of Winterhold in Skyrim (I know, basic😂) having a location where students get a boost to spar and practice their magic to learn quicker! Mechanically it could just be like wizards get to do Arcane recovery more times in a day, sorcerers recover half their total sorcery points per hour or something of the like.
@lorekeeper6854 жыл бұрын
@@AlexanderBaird ye, but limit it cause half per hour is op. A druid who recovers half at 4 hr break campains. Is it fixable? Probably, Is it easy? No

When it comes to sorcerers, I’ve had fun powering them up by giving them free spells they’ll know + more slots by meeting the origin of their bloodline. I had a dragon sorcerer who met his dragon dad and a half dragon sibling and the two were able to grand him a “family spell” which was a spell the player and I worked together on along with an increase to his spell slots so he could cast it more. I’ve done something similar with warlocks in which I named the Boon “the long term deal”, in which the patron and player came to an agreement for a long term goal with minor quests leading up to it. The patron would either tattoo the player or present them with an item that symbolizes the agreed deal and in exchange for the player going on this quest, I usually gave them either custom invocations or spells. I worked with my warlock player where they have an invocation that gives them three spells that they now know but can choose to cast one once per short rest without using a warlock slot + we made a custom spell based on the patron that symbolized the kind of patron and the patron’s attitude. So for a Devil, we create a fire spell called Devil’s Star. I also like to give rogues master skill books and tools from other thief type characters. Even gave one player a list of valuable items that only the original thief that took them would know the location of and gave them a dungeon to hunt in to get those items. The players loved it.

So, a months ago, I played in a campaign that basically took place in Candy Land. My character was a Gnome Warlock (Celestial, Pact of the Chain) with the Cloistered Scholar background. The way I played her was as a gregarious librarian that was not really permitted to be a Wizard so she made a pact with celestial being as a sort of work around, so she had bunch of spells and abilities that didn't quite line up with who she was but did line up with the personality of her patron. We didn't have any places of power, but the DM wove in that the the plane that the campaign took place on (all the PCs were pulled from different realms in the multiverse) a world that kind of was a key component of the multiverse. So in a way, the world of the game itself was a place of power, because if the plane the game took place on collapsed then that could lead to a massive collapse of the multiverse. Also, to keep with the Candy Land aesthetic, all our equipment was either some sort of sweet or the kind of cardboard you find in a game like Candy Land. We played the game on Role Gate, so it's all play-by-text, the campaign ended a while ago. All that was inspired from a bit from a webcomic called Dan and Mab's Furr Adventures where in one skit one of the characters refers to Candy Land as "Baby's first RPG" and a few pages later we actually see some of the characters playing with D&D-type sheets (the page went up during the 3.5E era) and a Candy Land board with all the characters playing classes that hand a Candy spin to their name. Sorry if that was all off topic for the video, but that could be a potential future set of videos, Turning Other Games Into a D&D setting and how to make it feel like both games without going too far

It was out of game (in between campaigns), but I used a the druid grove that my character's wife's parents lived at and the elder treant that lived there lead the ceremony there that transformed my character from a lvl 6 cavalier fighter to a lvl 6 ancients paladin. It would have been cool to do in game but I wrote it up just as the story of how/why my character changed within the month gap between campaigns, as I took advantage of our DM letting rebuild to a similar set up. Like my character was a melee combatant they loved and bread horses (family business) and who had a appreciation of natures beauty but didn't worship it. But because he wanted more power to protect his friends and it was offered to him by the elder treant and he excepted and took the oath of ancients.

I'm gonna use the 'you know' as the catchphrase of my newest character. "You know, I don't think that chest was there on the way in, it might be a mimic." "You know, we don't have to fight, I'm sure we can find a mutually beneficial solution." "You know, I may not know which way to go from here, I think we may be lost."

I feel like warlocks could fit in with like the religious crowd as well to an extent. Like there may not be temples to their “gods” but patrons have worshippers and temples too. Maybe a temple to cthulu is a place of power for your great old one warlock. Just felt like planar events was a little odd for them. It’s not like they’re getting power from the universe like a sorcerer, they’re still getting power gifted from their patron.
