The movie short was a fun watch and I really enjoyed it. And seeing a Indie production being made was something I really needed right now. Over here in Central Jersey, U.S. so many Indie horror and Sci-Fi productions are on hold or only able to have a really small crew and cast at once so I've been really down being sidelined. But seeing your creation as a character in DISTANCE and seeing how excited you were with being on location for the first time ever was one of the best things I've watched on Nerdforge yet and really lifted my spirits. 😁

If you damage the wood, then put a light coat of color on, then damage the wood some more, and add more stain... it will build up into very dimensional color. Especially if you use slightly different tones of stain. Also, remember to damage the wood a bit more after building the chest, so you have damage in the 'right' spots... the corners and such. But this does look very good! (At about the 2 minute mark)

For your next one (and there will be a next one), think about using a wax finish on the wood. It will add a patina on top of the painting that really will help with the aging varnish look. Not as shiny as polyurethane, but just a little bit more than painted wood. I've used it on stage props and it's worked out fine.
