Hey Ted, I think they use the new pull tabs to eliminate plastic packaging. They have moved this direction across there lines both in D&D and MTG to remove as much plastic trash as possible from their packaging. So while the pull tabs are sometimes annoying they do make it so you don't need plastic shrink wrap around the product.

@Lord_zeel24 күн бұрын
That makes sense, they don't have to shrink-wrap it or use tape if the cardboard box is like this. Though I feel like a normal folded box and a single circular sticker like we see on a lot of other products would be just as good.
@Lord_zeel24 күн бұрын
@@lwriker1304 To be fair, they aren't making the product for people to NOT use it. I dislike the tear tabs on the DND stuff because you might actually want to put things back in the box for storage, and this style of box isn't great for that. But on LEGO? I don't know anyone that takes their LEGO apart and puts it back in the box.

On the art it’s very tapestry esque which I like and I think it’s the main class art for each revised class in the PHB. For example I think the dwarf is the one you see in the fighter class section. There’s a Dragonborn that’s college of valor bard and the one in the screen is clearly holding a lute to be a stereotypical bard instrument. To strengthen my case for this if you count them up there’s exactly 12 different PCs across the screen too. I’ll be honest I’m shocked this doesn’t come automatically with the DMG if you bought the bundle for example. I think it would’ve been really great if when they sent bundle purchasers a slip case for all three books when the MM releases fully too. Obviously that’s too much wishful thinking but it really would’ve been great marketing since everything else has been a boxed set with a case and DM’s screen. 🤷🏼♂️
@nebbynoo112725 күн бұрын
I thought the dwarf was a ranger. But I also thought the gnome and halfling were the other way around.
@trexdrew25 күн бұрын
@ it’s kinda hard to tell since fighters could use bows as well. I know for sure though that it’s definitely meant to represent each class it’s just up for debate on who’s representing what. To go by what’s in the art from the book seems easiest but who knows.

I'm with you on the front art style. If they had made it some kind of sculpted, embossed stone carving, as the wall of some crypt or tomb that art style might have worked better than this junior high level failure. Outside: Not the worst or bad, just no dnd feels for me. Too "cartoony". Its like a cover for a 3rd party fanzine magazine or comic book. I would prefer it more clean, like with only the dragon background or a the "old" battle scenes and art form. This does not inspire my fantasy as a player or GM in any way, its a deal breaker for me, I will wait for another cover. The inside: They still miss the point with the usage of a GM-screen, though it is better then many previous screens. Finally (!) they got rid of the inside art (well most of it) and made good use of the space, but could still be better. I would buy it and use it if not for the outside art. Conditions = Good. Improvised dmg = why? Dont see much use with this to be on the screen. Also "24d10 crushed by the jaws of a moon sized monster, why is that even a thing and just not "Dead, your dead, a moon just ate you!" why even roll for something like that?. Actions in combat = Good. (no Grapple?) Long/High jump = hmm naw, I don't think we ever used that in +20 years of playing, or I dont remember it but that is the same result. Good rule to have in the book, not on GM-screen. Concentration = Good, easy to forget in the heat of battle. Skills = Good, but not needed on screen if it can make room for better info. Death saves = Don't think its needed on the screen, not difficult rules, and you tend to remember them pretty good after having to use them or lost a char. ;-) Object AC/HP = another thing I don't remembering been used very often, if at all. Don't think its needed on the screen. Costs: Good! But ALWAYS to few examples! And often the thing you use almost as much as combat rules and conditions. Costs should ha a dedicated page for itself. (Common services, lodging, food, gear, potions, weapons, hirelings, etc. There is not room for all things ofc, but for the love of all the gold coins, more then 8 things!! Typical DCs = Good, kind of, at least for beginner GMs. You tend to learn those quite quickly. Light sources & Obscuring = Good, I think I would use it more often and correct if I had it on the screen. Travel pace = Good, but no priority on the screen, would rather have more costs tables instead. Travelling stuff I can look up in the book if needed, doesn't use it that often.The foraging part is more useful. Cover = Good, but why is that on that page and not with Obscuring etc? Audible distance = does anyone actually use this other then just think logically? Seems like an unnecessary rule all together, but good to have in the book for ppl that wants to use it. Visability = the same, never use hard rules for it. Dont need that for the screen. (but good to have in the book IF I need it sometime. Weather = Seldom roll on any specific table for it, just make it up on the go. "roll 1d10 scale, 1 sun and warm, 10 hail storm!" or something like that. Dont need to take space for it on the screen, but if there is space for it, why not. =)

These borderline promiscuous robes that don’t cover anything? What is this a cbbe skyrim clothing mod? (Hopefully that doesn’t come off as hateful, it really isn’t meant to be) The backdrop color is way too bright, it creates a “busy” sort of effect that I think almost looks distracting. A darker palette would’ve been much better. Scenery is really my preference, but an adventuring party across the front isn’t bad. I just think a lot about it needs to be less loud. The DM screen is a cover for your notes and rolls. It should be a thing that melts into the background while being aesthetically pleasing.

@@jaysw9585 How is it more scientific than race, could you elaborate?
@jaysw958524 күн бұрын
@ginjaninja6585 race is a group of people that share a common lineage, ancestory, culture or common background. DnD creatures are completely different animals that do not share a common origin, background or even culture. Only a handful of them are even capable of interbreeding. There would be no overlapping DNA between elves, humans, dwarves, gnomes, halflings and orcs as each species was created individually by their god and do not share a common ancestor. This is why its okay to have evil species, but not evil races. A species can be created to serve an evil gods purpose. A race is a deviation of a common ancestor and its creator. Any racial changes to its alignment would be an exception, not a rule. For instance, Homo Sapiens and Homo Erectus are different species, not races.

I think some things are gendered, unity and soft art is more feminine in nature (for folks that still believe in that kind of thing). You could say a battle focused scene would be masculine and I say obviously. Not sure what being white has to do with that. End of the day someone who DMs and rarely has battles has thought “unity” and this art were a good choice for the first 2024 rules DM Screen. I disagree but hope folks have their fun with this game that allows for that.
