I don't think the Executioners Axe is supposed to work with the grace property if the axe deals extra damage on a hit and grace lets you deal damage on a miss. But ofc you can play as you want as long as people at your table is happy with it.

Is there any level requirements to craft magic items? Since bastions have to wait until lv 9 to do it, I wasn't sure if there was a similar requirement to make them yourself. Also, I'm disappointed the enspelled items can't use any item as the base. I recall them showing a table of base items the tools can make for other magic items (boots, rings, etc.), so they should all be fair game to put a spell into. Just make it like the staff where it's any spell with the chance of breaking on the last use. I'll probably ask my DM to allow that whenever we swap to the new rules.

Adamantine weapons have a property that should be problematic in my mind. Remember forces are equal but opposite in the real world. Say you target an opponent for an attack with your regular sword. Also say the opponent blocks with an adamantine weapon or possibly shield. The attack of the normal sword hits the adamantine one therefore the normal sword takes an equal force from the adamantine one. A force equal to a hit so it's as though you hit the regular sword with an adamantine one. The regular sword should shatter like glass against a rock just because you blocked it.

Graze property I believe specifically states, "This damage cannot be increased by any other means than increasing the ability score that is originally used" or something like that. Capping it at five unless your STR or DEx scores are above 20. Leaving the Barb and Monk as the only base classes who can deal more than 5 dmg with Graze outside of magic items.

Adamantine weapons would be cooler if the object destruction system was more robust. Most things have low hp no damage threshholds. Else you could just break someones sword with just about any weapon RAW

The monsters and resistance part is very funny, because the way they changed the classes and the way they changed monsters (since Monsters of the Multiverse), at high level, a Barbarian is a worse tank than any Fighter and the famous debate martial/casters has an even greater problem, especially if you add the resistance to all physical damage in the mix. Also the strongest race for a high level game is the Amethyst Dragonborne.

Notably, some creatures with resistance to nonmagical stuff are seemingly just gonna lose it. That's what happened to the imp. So I agree that they're getting rid of 'resistant to non-magical damage' stuff, but I think whether creatures instead just get resistance to weapons is gonna be a lot more variable based on whether them being resistant to weapons was part of their specific niche thematically. Some will have those resistances and some will just not, while some may also get resistance to only some types of damage, like only Bludgeoning or whatever.

Some of these new enspelled items are very interesting. I imagine lots of staffs of eldeitch blast going around. Weapons or shields of blade ward are going to be great for fighters, rogues, monks and anyone else who isn't using their concentrating on anything else. And divine favor for barbarians or anyone else who wants it too

Enspelled Armor with Nystul’s Magic Aura for a Fighter/Paladin is pretty damned handy. A freeby change your creature type for targeting removes them from being targeted by some nasty spells which target humanoids like Hold Person saving spell slots for the party casters

Never understood why Adamantine Armor (or in this case weapone) is considered a magical item. It isn't in my games. Just material that can bypass resistance. Prevents crit still (until I find a better property for it though). At least in 3.X it was Alchemical silver for durability. Not going to count Silvered/Adamantine Weapons as magical items, it's just stupid.

@@starrazor9558 ya Adamantine and Mithril are kind of considered by wotc to be inherently magical bc of the nature of the materials, super strong infernal iron and superlight and flexible mithril(5e slept on the weight reduction mithril offers but canonically its 1/2 the weight of steel) They dont have to be magical but for simplicities sake, the material rarity and the skills needed to work these materials into something useful, they essentially are. in older editions there were masterwork items which usually conferred a non magical +1, i can see these making a comeback now that the resistance to non magical weapons is going away.

@@starrazor9558 I get what they are going for, but in my head I am thinking just because it takes magic to forge the metal (sort of like Dragonslayer, dating myself a bit here) doesn't make the item magical, until it is enchanted (in my games you have to forge the weapon with the enchantment, don't have an issue with both things happening at once) Just seems they are taking away combinations, like an Adamantine +1 sword or flaming etc... like 3.X. Anyway, I can't postulate on changing anything until I see the rest of the MM changes tbh.

Potions don't have general rules. They tell you in their respective descriptions what action it takes to consume them. Healing potions in the player's handbook specify that you drink them using a bonus action.

Adamantine remains under appreciated. Losing crits is amazing, assuming monsters are critting. The Hat is excellent for flavor, especially for campaigns where dice rolls impact, and everyone enjoys the unexpected.

For adamantine armor, Losing crits is....fine. nice when it comes up but bland at best. Adamantine weapons in-universe are amazing cutting others weapons like soft cheese. We are kinda just approaching 3.5 territory though when thinking of object integrity.

I love adamantine armor. I believe it's one of the best armor sets (by rarity) in the game. I just don't like 2014 adamantine and silvered weapons since their whole gimmick is bypassing a resistance that even a common magical weapon could do. In order to take advantage of those properties, you had to use antimagic fields, which parties only typically face in the highest levels of play, which most tables don't get to.

​@MagiofAsura i had a player who got a set of adamantine plate armor. He refused to change to a set of +2 plate armor because he would've taken more damage. After he got that armor, at like level 5 (campaign went to 20), he received about 70% of the crits, and there was an average of about 1.5 crits per combat. He saved literally hundreds of hit points because of that armor. It was unbelievable.

There is a reason it is in print only once and no DM ever speaks of it. It totally ruins the game. The first time I read its description I put a red line through it, banning it from my game. I will not give you the name of the pen. I feel if you want it the least you can do is the work to find it. good luck.

Adamantine weapons should never be considered magic items. There is a reason why in 2014 monsters had resistance/immunity to "bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing from nonmagical attacks not made with adamantine weapons." Adamantine is a worked form of adamantite ore, and is a purely naturally-occuring metal in D&D. Edit: Silvered weapons, too? It is just an alchemical (nonmagical) silver jacket encasing a steel blade. I understand that silvered and adamantine weapons tend to have been forgotten as potential treasure in 2014, but making them magic items drastically changes their place in D&D. Not only that, but this makes the common magic item that is just a magical weapon without bonuses redundant.

Seriously why aren't people making a bigger deal of Enspelled Items, like even from a pc's perspective these are Bonkers. Even if you nerd them to require the material components of the spell and only include spells with a casting time of an action (which they don't by the way the explicitly give the example of enspellled armor with *SHEILD*) that still leaves crazy items like Staffs/armors of healing. And what's more is you just need to be a spell caster. You don't need the spell to be on your list. THINK ABOUT HOW CRAZY THAT IS. Also if casting spell from magic items stays them same you use your action to cast it from the staff and you wouldn't need to provide expensive material components. Like Seriously this is such a crazy magic item. Hell, armor of goodberry without any other assistance provides 60 hp of healing a day that you can distribute as you see fit without waste. That the lay on hands feature from a paladin *AT LEVEL 12*. All you need to make this at level 1 is 200gp and 10 days to craft it. This is bonkers.

​@@dabeef2112Good question. I'd imagine it could be expanded to all potions; if you have time to down healing fluid in a bottle in a bonus action, it stands to reason you could down other fluids. But if your DM scruples inhibit you from feeling at peace with that decision, you could just tell your players No. Maybe the consistency of a Potion of Featherfall takes several moments for the fluid to leave the vessel, longer then the abstract amount of time specifically a 'Bonus Action' takes. Follow your heart haha

I had a hope they did basic math and realized the psychic knives would need something in the magic weapon front like the wraps of unarmed power. both it and unarmed probably need more than that given how often they are adding +2d6etc damage weapons. A two weapon nick master is basically getting 15th level rogue damage from those. So psychic knives with nothing and fists with just +x to hit and damage will be falling behind hard in any game where those weapons are being found/bought/made etc.

I hope that Shield of the Cavalier gets some clear wording on that Forceful Bash because as written it doesn't work with the majority of class features. It's not a weapon so any feature that requires a hit with a weapon (smite, sneak attack, etc) won't work, it won't benefit from any weapon mastery or fighting style either.

I think it's fine as is now, it has effectively 2 masteries on it at the same time with no save (just a size limit on the prone) and shields are listed under armor so it wouldn't be a "weapon attack" for stuff like Smites, etc

idk its an attack and it uses your prof bonus and str modifier... if your hung up on the weapon attack wording of class features, I think of it like an improvised weapon which to my knowledge doesn't exclude you from using class features w/ them. imo you can use maneuvers, smites, sneak attack's ect because your using the object as if it were a weapon. but the way i ruled unarmed strikes in 2014 was as a weapon attack bc irl some black belts and prize fighters have their hands/feet, bodies registered as deadly weapons and more importantly it doesn't break the game by allowing martials to use a maneuver or smite/sneakattack unarmed it just adds verisimilitude.

​@@MrFirefan1234 the item itself says its an attack.(specific beats general) You can already make a improvised weapon attack w/ a shield. an improvised weapon is a weapon for all intents and purposes, even if it not an ideal one. so with that in mind, im pretty sure you can use class features in conjunction with it. But honestly whatever weapon your using in tier 3 is probably gonna be better to use with your features most of the time anyway so this discussion probably isnt all that meaningful in the grand scheme of things.

@@tomtom7955 2014 had the horrible ruling that Unarmed strikes were "Weapon attacks" but NOT "attacks with a weapon" so it got very convoluted. Thankfully now that distinction is gone, as well as now Smites say "Bonus Action, which you take immediately after hitting a target with a Melee weapon or an Unarmed Strike"

I love parts of the Cube of Summoning and hate others, the generic randomness and the jack in the box flavor aren't things I'm a fan of Personally I think if you're a DM and want to hand this out you should think about your players and what their character's themes are and give them a more specific "Cube of Summoning ______" based on that theme so a dragon themed character would get a "Cube of Summoning Dragon" and a fey character could get a "Cube of Summoning Fey" and an Artificer could get a "Cube of Summoning Construct" and so on You could even get more specific and make it a "Cube of Summoning Red Dragon" or "Cube of Summoning Metal Construct" and make the summon into a specific creature that your player now can role play with and use to tell a better story than just "go random monster I don't care about" Not to say that the randomness can never be good but the only characters I see it fitting would be something either themed on randomness, controlling fate or summoning in general so it would be good for Wild Magic Sorcerers, Divination Wizards and Conjuration Wizards but aside from that I think getting extremely specific and consistent is better for roleplay and more fun for players if you make it fit their character

I think that they preflavored it from the other cube one in the old DMG, because it was a bit confusing and not necessarily that helpful (i remember it being animals rather than magical creatures). Love your ideas, but they seem like things which would have been good in supplemental material like Fizban's Treasury of Dragons.
