the good thing about wreath of the prism is the fact, that there is no Limit to the uses if i see it correctly...so basically a 8th lv spell becomes "at will"

Correct, however you can only have one dominated at a time and if you fail against a particular monster it is immune for 24 hours.

It also doesn't hit your action economy in a fight since it's part of the attack. You don't have to choose between hitting the big scaly boy or try to dominate it and risk doing nothing. If you fail, you still dealt your damage. This item's strength comes from the fact that everything is free.

I like how the Vestiges are “good” artifacts and none of them are inherently weapons although a couple of them can be threatening. And the Arms are the “evil” artifacts that are meant for killing only. It’s a cool dichotomy between these items that are basically the same, but were obviously made for different reasons by different beings. There’s a ton of awesome lore behind them, and I think they’d be great to add into non-Wildemount campaigns.

This is true though only for the office WOTC vestiges in this book. If we are to acknowledge Vox Machina, and Matt Mercer's previous non-WOTC campaign guide for Tal'Dorei that was published through Green Ronin, there are plenty of "good-aligned" weapon-based vestiges.

@@lordvaust5830 I'd certainly advise going back and watching Season 1. Personally, I prefer the characters in Vox Machina over the Mighty Nein, but that's mainly just because I got attached to them first. Mighty Nein is still great. It's fun to look at just how wildly different the characters are from the 2 seasons. Especially Laura and Travis's. Vex and Jester, Grog and Fjord. Night and day, different. One of the things I love about DnD. One person can explore so many different things.

@@ulfbjorn14 I enjoy that they're different, but then finding similarities between all their new and old characters. It allows me to forgive them/their characters for stuff that really frustrated me in season 1 aha. For instance Liam, you can really tell in season two that he cares about "real life" kind of issues, interpersonal/psyche type stuff, it came across a bit jarring in season 1. But then again, maybe I'm just getting used to them all aha.

@@ulfbjorn14 oh, also, it's good to remember d&d lore/sourcebooks are not infallible. Lore is and should be esoteric imo. One book says the vestiges are good and arms are bad and vestiges aren't weapons, another has a dagger that's called a vestige and was made by a good god. That's a mystery waiting to happen. I enjoy pretending at least parts of these lore books are in worlds, worlds tend to have conflicting lore, it makes it interesting.

I think that the Key is best in a completely Rogueless party. It lets one of your non-rogue characters become the stealthy scouting archetype instead.
@MacroAggressor
@MacroAggressor 4 жыл бұрын
That was my thought as well. Most of its benefit is wasted on a rogue, and honestly even with a rogue in the party it might be a good idea to give this to a different Dex based PC.
@TheKroganMaster
@TheKroganMaster 4 жыл бұрын
@@MacroAggressor I mean if you are only looking at the base ability sure, but a rogue gets free spells out of this, part of another magic item they might not need to go for, and the ability to open a door pretty much anywhere. That all could benefit a rogue greatly.

@conradkorbol 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah advantage isn’t good for a rogue or a plus 1 dex weapon. Oh wait..... those are really good things for a rogue. All those abilities make a rogue way better? Nah you are right. Rogues shouldn’t have this item.
@danieltaber4924
@danieltaber4924 4 жыл бұрын
It's a +1 Dagger of Returning after it has Awakened. True. Of course, you can get a regular +1 Dagger of Returning far easier. It grants you advantage on Moving Silently and Opening Locks, not attacks. It does nothing for Sneak Attack. Rogues do not benefit from the item granting Thieves' Tools proficiency - they already have it. Rogues do not benefit as much from the various Stealth abilities - they are already Stealthy. If your party does not have a Rogue, this item lets someone else fill the role. If your party does have a Rogue, you now have the choice between improving that Rogue, or having two. Give this to your Dex Fighter, your Ranger - hell, give it to the Paladin in Plate to cancel out their stealth disadvantages.
@conradkorbol
@conradkorbol 4 жыл бұрын
Daniel Taber you are confusing not useful with one is move useful. Let’s look at this again. You get advantage on stealth and you get advantage on thieves tools. You are correct that other classes benefit, but they don’t make as much use of it. You are correct that you can get a plus one dagger of returning ealrier. If your dm has them in your game. Which, they may not. Even they do, they may not allow you to buy magic items. Let’s look further at your assertions. The spells, which you seem to ignoring, are large ranger spells. So by your own logic it’s as good. I don’t assert this, but they are better on a rogue. The rogue now has a plus 10 with advantage to all stealth checks. that does actually help with sneak attack because it helps with surprise rounds. So..... you are simply wrong. I mean, believe whatever you want, but fighters and rangers need magic weapons way more than the rogue does. So that you wasting an attuemnt slot of this is detrimental to those classes. It is good for a rogue. Period. You may think it’s better on another class but to say it’s not good on a rogue is just so false it’s laughable

I feel like you were doing Danoth's Visor a disservice. Yeah, for the most part it is just truesight goggles, but one crucial detail is that it gives you antimagic field and doesn't require attunement by a spellcaster. Antimagic field is a fantastic spell normally, but in the hands of, say, a monk with sentinel, it becomes insane. It basically amounts to castrating any magic user within 10 feet and leaving them to helplessly be beaten to death. Any martial class with the exalted visor becomes an unstoppable mage killer.

For my Firbolg Hexblade I chose the Inheritor background so I could start the campaign with a sword to do this with. Unfortunately the campaign fell apart, but I liked that sword. His father gave it to him when he was younger after a long trip and would never tell him the same story about it twice, before admitting he didn't know what the true story was and told him it was up to him to make its story from then on. For firbolgs in that world we did a mix of the current lore, but also had the badass warrior viking neopagen stuff from the previous editions in the history. He was raised on stories of what his people had accomplished in great hunts and as great heroes.

The wreath has no limit on how often you can cast dominate monster and it doesn't specify an action requirement, which seems great as a freebie on the side - mainly for acquiring a constant stream of cannonfodder. Give it to someone with multiattack (or maybe a warlock with eldritch blast), spread the attacks and you have lots of attempts to turn an enemy into an ally on every turn. A question though: "If you use the wreath to charm a second creature, the first spell immediately ends." Does that mean "if you successfully charm a second creature", or "if you attempt to charm a second creature"?

D&D launched a series of books that continued to demigod status. I developed an in depth campaign for demigods where players could take their favorite chars and convert them to the new demigod rules. I added a lot of mechanics content to this and included char’s weapons and gear they had carried through most of their char’s lives and it had become part of their identity. The characters could essentially bring common magic items and even some artifacts to a select few demigod artificers to add functionality and just raw pluses for armor and weapons, depending on the demigod weapon/armor/item “level” could add features and pluses to their signature items, etc. The higher the level of the signature, the more powerful the item had to be to be of any use to them in a converting its power to their signature gear. It was a pretty good system and we ran every week, sometimes every other week for about 4 years in a demigod campaign. I made it such that the char demigod “level” which was really a stage and the stage of their items played a major role in the situations they faced. Also, when fighting non-demigod beings/monsters they could hit and roll on a table that included a chance of instant kill. A 28th level fighter against common orcs would essentially auto kill and the 5 attack they got per round, it was more of an issue of opponents in range was the issue. Such a char could wade through a nearly army of common orcs in a number of rounds with most of them running away, at least the ones that were alive. It was a plane-hopping, world-spanning adventures with about a dozen story arcs, some in the world, some char driven. It was pretty fun. These new rules seem in line with that, but not requiring demigods. Fun times.... .

Not sure if it's been said but there is a section of Dominate Monster about taking absolute control, until the end of your next turn. when reaching the time limit. Take control, then on the next turn recast the spell. (concentration isn't broken as it's an action to cast) Now this is effectively telling the monster to allow the spell to be cast on them "Don't worry mate it's good for you" I understand there are spells with the "A willing creature can choose to fail" but I know that many tables will allow you to cast a spell on another PC and that PC say's "I dont fight it I let it happen" used in cases of deception say "Faking something" I'd understand maybe the argument of subconscious or fight or flight responses, but the spell says there's that component. It may not be RAW and may be RAI but even if not, I could see that being how Joe using it. If not continuously at least maybe to "break"his manticore in.

Arkhan holds a slightly different version of the Wreath of the Prism. From what we know of it's exalted statblock: The wearer gains darkvision and can see invisible objects and creatures up to 60 feet. The wreath can be removed for up to 1 minute before losing attunement. If the wreath is placed around the neck of a beast, dragon, or monstrosity of CR 6 or lower (requires a successful grapple attempt against the creature), the creature must make a Wisdom saving throw (DC 17). On a success, the creature is immune to the effects of this item for 24 hours. On a failure, that creature is charmed by the attuned and will follow simple commands. This effect lasts until the wreath becomes unattuned, or another creature is charmed by the wreath. A creature that is released from the wreath's influence knows it was charmed by the bearer. So his version sees invisibility, only charms beasts, dragons, or monstrosities up to CR 6, requires a grapple and the charm is permanent until broken.

@@arandomcheese Then you stop at 16 or 17 and multi with fighter, probably battlemaster but champion might be good too with the improved crit helping out with brutal crit effectively doubling the number of crits you get. I have always found that multi to be more of a benefit than the capstone anyway even if an item is not taking care of half of the ability for you. Action surge alone is easily worth the loss of 4 con much less the other benefits like second wind and the BM or champion benefits.

I actually made very similar items for a campaign that I did once. It was actually a kind of way to more completely connect 2 campaigns I ran once. They were made at the end of the 1st campaign and received, in a much more weakened state. It was a neat call back for the group, who was the same for both campaigns, and because story reasons, they were actually called vestiges of Convergence. I swear that I have never watched Critical Role. Seriously, I prefer to play campaigns rather then watch others play campaigns, and this is just a funny coincidence.

As it doesnt appear to have a limit on the casting with the prism, i would assume that once you had a creature charmed, aslong as u grappled it again you could recast on it every hour before it expires to refresh its duration? If so, and its already charmed by you, would the creature not be more likely to willingly fail the save making it effectvely permanant aslong as you can recast it before it expires? Just remember to give your creature buddy a hug atleast once every hour

This is a cool concept but I feel like more levels of power is a really good idea. Having to wait until level 9, a level most campaigns don’t hit, to bet a dormant vestige is pretty tough. When I’m running a campaign I like planting most of the important elements before level 5. I’d definitely make a weaker relic to give to lower level players.

Could turn the dominate use to for a day and allow the creature a new save attempt each day. 3 fails (first failure counts as 1, so there's 2 more) and it becomes permanent. Might give disadvantage on subsequent save rolls.

The key is the only utility in any situation, at any time item, making it top of list for me. Especially since I like to run gloomstalker ranger/ assassin hybrid. The Grimoire is second since it increases the spells usable, which can have many uses. The Visor is a close third since most of it's abilities are only useful in an active mode The wreath though is pretty trash, rather than being an item you customize one or two things in a campaign for, it feels like you need to centralize encounters that may occur around this item.

I'm thinking that the effect is permanent (or until the spell is dispelled or another creature is effected). Simply put, it's pretty under-powered compared to the rest otherwise. If it IS permanent, it's pretty powerful, but if it can be dispelled, something could happen... so it makes sense.

Its an atunmant so and a vestige so yes i think it should have been for ever without concentration. basicly its an atunmant to keep a pet once at a time I think thats fair. and also thats an evil vistage of teyamat ofcourse it would be Fd Up. the Hide of course is my favoraite because of my obsession with druids finally sometihng for druids wildshape. I wished it game more uses of polymorph and it says you keep your stats whenever you are polymorphed winningly and had its effect usable for more creatures like CR 1 and below and then increase at its level up. just more options for later I guess. and the Stormgirdle sooo cooool. its a good combo too for the druid. having thier whild shape more strong and immune to more effects. My dragonborn druid in taldorie already have the Kiss of the change bringer so atunment to three vistigaes is just ... chief kiss. wish to do so.

They are similar yes. But some could say they dont like Feral Guardian because its a copy and past of Verminshroud. The way I see it, I like them both. Based on the characters I enjoy playing, I'd prefer Feral Guardian, but Verminshroud could fit the motif of plenty of characters out there. I have no problems with them both being in the game world. They have a bit of different mechanics and uses, and massively different flavours.
