I don't think so. This is not only about backups. It's about service, modding, features, and improvements. Things Nintendo does not care about that the community does. Even something as simple as getting a filter that upscales the graphics would drive emulation. And if you keep track of "Duckstation" and the texture replacement feature... that one has the potential to spit some massive potential by allowing patches/mods that can radically change the graphics of a game. This just goes to show... while Graphics does attract eyes... it's the gameplay that makes a game great or not!

About Nier Automata: The "multiple endings" thing is often misunderstood. You don't have to play through multiple times the whole game to get different endings. The different "endings" are more akin to achievements. For example you get one ending if you die at the tutorial. You get many by ignoring the next story progression spot, etc. Also you don't have to fear that you lose some endings forever if you don't do them when you can (like the tutorial one) because at some point in the game you gain the option to go back to any chapter in the story with all of your levels, weapons, items, all of it. And when you go back to a chapter you aren't even stuck in that chapter any longer than you want. You can just skip around in the story as much as you want to the point you have progressed. It's a really fun way to collect all of the endings, do chapter specific side missions etc. Really relaxed and modern way to tackle an RPG.

Patents and patent decisions in US have no effect on patents in Japan and vice vera. Nintendo would have to sue Palworld (pocket pair) in the US under US patent law to stop Palworld sales in the US market. Subject matter eligibility rejections are common for software patents. Software can be patented but you have to draft the claims in the proper format to be either a tangible method or device. Abstact ideas cannot be patented in the US.

They're just trying to protect their next generation, and eventually this will all blow over. Maybe they are unsure of the security of their next console after what happened with the Switch. Best case scenario would be their next console is more secure, doesn't get hacked for at least several years, and until it does, all these attacks just kind of die down in the meantime. But right now, Nintendo/nVidia's own security failures have them freaking out, going overboard to kill emulation before it even has a chance to affect Switch 2.

Emulation, even at its easiest is cumbersome to normal users. Its been relatively easy to play MvC2 and the arcade streetfighter versions for decades now if you wanted to, yet everyone got hyped for the Capcom Fighting Collection. In reality emulation is at most practiced by millions of people who still buy most of their games. Actual emulation for piracy is like thousands of people looking at the subreddit numbers. Nintendo has a legal team always looking for work and their Japanese clients who fundamentally believe emulation is satan/illegal throughout the entire universe regardless of US precedents. Superficially you could look at NSO and think emulation robs it of its value and Nintendo Japan probably labor under that delusion. Meanwhile Sony use opensource PSX emulators to sell their games on their own consoles and online servers.

Here's the reviews for the Switch 2: It's crap but you're going to buy it anyway because it's where you get Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon. You'll complain about it but still fund the machine that will take rights away from us all.

Okay seriously what is Nintendo gonna do when the gaming community starts boycotting their games and other products? They make amazing stuff but it's clear they don't respect us as players.

Emulation is going to continue. Heck, you can even emulate certain Steam games without having to use Steam if you wanted to although I wouldn't recommend it as you can find and buy Steam games for cheap on other sites like Fanatical for example (if Steam doesn't have a sale for the game(s) you want). Whatever Nintendo's next console ends up being (Switch 2 or Super Switch...), people will find and create ways to emulate that system. It is inevitable

My biggest issue with the Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster is that there were other ways to close the loophole. You could offer an upgrade to people who owned the game before a certain date, for example. I think the whole remaster was just to get the price back up to full price. It was a game on my list, but I haven't gotten to it yet so I'm happy to skip it longer. But honestly, if I had picked it up for cheap and loved it, I'd probably end up paying more for Forbidden West than I'd otherwise be willing to. Without that first touchpoint, there are other games I can shift my attention to.

Also if I was Russ after the copyright strike by Nintendo, I wouldn't even promote anything Nintendo related in any video again. Honestly don't promote anyone buying their products or anything related for their console. They are taking your work away from you, your way of life, how you make a living. Don't promote theirs.

To be honest if I would use the MigSwitch for piracy, I would have a separate Switch with a separate account. I would have it offline and just play those games separate from my main Switch. That way no issues with your main account, main console and legitimate games. You can get Switch lites used in great condition nowdays for $100 or less for a secondary console for the MigSwitch. I don't have the MigSwitch,bfor context I have the Switch since day 1 and legally purchased all my games, hundreds at this point. Just my point of view on if I would have it, how to use it safely and not worry about my main account or about Nintendo.

I don't think the community can keep hiding behind muh games preservation and "emulation is legal" when people on an unprecedented scale are buying cheap chinese handhelds to easily play the newest Nintendo games for free. Also the famous study "proving" that piracy can be beneficial because it generates hype and the people pirating often end up buying later, doesn't apply either. Those times have passed. 99% of the people emulating Switch have never bought a single game let alone a Switch and are also never going to. Nintendo isn't going about this in the best way, but I absolutely understand why they're doing it. Content creators in this niche are also partly to blame for this, whether you guys like it or not. Just look at how Taki is handling this compared to you guys.
@r9delta1042 ай бұрын
Yeah the arguments man, it's pretty simple: legality does not necessarily equate to morality. While a little reductive, there's really nothing else to understand on that and those that think otherwise...I'd argue that they have a childlike understanding of the world.

Look I get it Nintendo's made some great games and that's an understatement of course also I get it Nintendo brings up a lot of nostalgia for mini gamers. And I get it, I get it from a content provider perspective there's a lot to talk about when it comes to Nintendo. But my goodness if any video game company deserves a strict boycott where you don't talk about their new products and you don't buy their products it would be Nintendo. Just take a hit and don't talk about new Nintendo products, they don't deserve your promotion or your hype which will increase their sales. You are talking about regionally restricting your channel why, not just talk about the Nintendo boycott every week or two and how well that's going honestly Nintendo doesn't deserve your content guys!!

@1:16:08 The original Silent Hill 2 game was terrifying from what I've seen and heard from other gamers/reviewers (I've never played it so I can't attest to how scary it is but it looked pretty scary from gameplay videos I've watched). It's only fitting that the remake would be scary. I plan on getting and playing the remake eventually but I'm one of those insane people that has to start a series from the beginning (and read/watch/play the originals first) whether it is books, games, movies, TV shows, etc so I have no idea when I'll ever get to it. Maybe I'll get to it when it eventually goes on sale lol.

I agree, everyone should make their own decisions. If you boycott, that means also not buying things you really want from that company. I am boycotting Nintendo. I don't mind what anyone else does but any company I want to put on that list (it's pretty long now), go on that list. I'm not interested in incentivizing them to improve. I'm gone. What it does is it makes other companies take notice and the ones who show mutual respect end up the most profitable. If I reviewed handhelds as my work or hobby, I would still buy them for work, just like I work a full time job doing crap I hate for an income.

1995, rayman! There was also a bunch of very popular Rainbow Six games in the late 90s. They also had the heroes of might and magic franchise which was popular in the 90s but it was a 3DO IP in it's prime. They had lots of popular pc titles back then. The Crew Motorfest is a great game from last year and I think it was successful for them along with Valhalla.

Emulation is not legal if the emulator works by getting around technological protection measures. The very first sentence of section 1201 of the dmca says that. So old stuff like nes had none of those protections but all modern consoles so so it's illegal to emulate those.

There was a TON of conversation around patenting of game mechanics in the TTRPG world after Wizards of the Coast tried to close down the Dungeons & Dragons open gaming license last year. As I understand it, patenting game mechanics is unprecedented in the US, so I'd be surprised if Nintendo is able to push it through. Would be TERRIBLE if they manage to though, as they'd be effectively opening the the door for some clown to claim that they hold the patent for a poker hand.

Problem is. Try telling a bunch of KZbinrs to delete all their Nintendo related content. They'll just ban you from their comments sections and block you on social media. We'd have to perform a thanos snap to fix this issue. But is it worth letting a bunch of otherwise fine KZbinrs get caught in the crossfire?

I don't trust Ubisoft.. I didn't buy Outlaws, but I did sign up for Ubisoft+ and will likely forget about it for a month or seven before cancelling. I wonder how many folks like me exist that Ubisoft doesn't report.
@CyprienCole2 ай бұрын
I wouldn't compare Outlaws for an example. It sold poorly, not due to being a single player but because it was an awful mess due to bugs and broken stealth system. I would rather a zero personality create a character that I could see myself in or my ideal-like person for the game. I dislike Kay design. Just because a game is multiplayer, it still can fail in the view of Concord, which couldn't get one good character design in a game that is meant to be based on heroes (characters). I would rather play OverWatch which I like alot of the character designs. Sure, they could have cut the Concord price in half, but I highly doubt it would have saved the game. That's the risk when you make a game that requires at least 10 players each round. It would need a massive ammout of people compared to something single player or co-op. They didn't want to take the chance of still lowering it, and no one was buying. I will say at least they refunded everyone who did buy the game, which is a huge plus in my book. If a game is good enough, it doesn't matter if it's Baldur's Gate 3 or Hogwarts Legacy; people will always buy a good game no matter what. You'll get some holdouts from sides, but the majority will play it if it's good. The difference is outlaws, and Concord wasn't a good game. Yes, certain choices in design can keep people from playing something such as Black Myth. Wukong as I don't care for it but doesn't mean other people didn't and it sold great because it was a good game despite me not caring about it. I've got to the point I rather play with online friends for most games but doesn't mean I wouldn't still play a single player game. I just more prefer a co-op game with a handful of friends (2-4).

31:12 Problem with all these launchers is that's it's all bloat and when your internet is down some of those launchers won't work. If you buy the game off Steam that should be enough. I don't even buy EA, Ubisoft games because they require a launcher as well.
@sevenredundent72562 ай бұрын
I gotta say, Emulation isn't illegal, it's how you do it that' maybe illegal, dumping your legally purchased ROMs is illegal but backing up data you legally purchased isn't but circumventing copyright protection is illegal so we're in a catch 22. Now, if we had some USB interface for Nintendo games, I'd be interesting to see if Nintendo does anything to that. If the copyright protection is "protected" and no backup copy of the game was made but, instead, an emulator just reads the content and plays it, I think emulation would be 100% legal, no questions asked, because Nintendo didn't have their copyrights infringed by anyone. Now, if we're able to make a USB to Nintendo cartridge interface, that's another question with legal implications: is any copyright circumvention happening when using this interface? (i.e. we can't use the device to dump ROMs, only play them via emulation) After this circumstance comes about, it would be interesting if emulation would still be considered legal or if, for some dumb reason, the courts rule that it's illegal.

Being woke is being respectful of all people. Woke is letting people actually be who they are. Starfield was accused of being woke because they respect pronouns. But that is a good thing. I bought Starfield because so many complained it was woke and I wanted to support that. Otherwise I would have waited a year and bought it at a discount. Instead I bought the premium collectable at the crazy price, because the haters were hating it.

Unfortunately people get mad when you tell the truth. It's sad to see some people cling to a company like it's their friend, and when said company does something they don't like they act shocked that they would do something like that, like they were their romantic partner or something betraying them. Lol.

Its because the Switch 2 is backward compatible so for the first year they need their older games to still be big sellers. Having Switch emulation would highly effect their marketing on the new system .
