20:23 The difference between oled and ps 5 pro is the perceived value. The presentation so far has shown nothing to justify the price of the ps 5 pro. In addition, savings have been made on materials. The STEAMDECK OLED was given to influencers early on, and they have all painted a positive picture of the new deck. Better components, better screen, better wifi and bluetooth and better battery life. It was presented as nothing but added value compared to the ps5. Especially since the oled costs only around 500.00 dollars at the mid price point and is probably the most popular oled variant. So the customer still has a choice. The comparison makes perfect sense and shows very clearly where Sony has made crucial mistakes here.

@@pool842 I made the conscious decision to buy games from Steam for this specific reason. Having access to my games regardless of the device I choose to use seems like an obvious reason to purchase and use a Steam Deck, not to mention the better pricing on Valve's platform. Someday Sony might choose not to have a backwards compatible console, which seems to be a new thing for the consoles anyway (arguably pushed forward mostly by Xbox). I mean, the only thing a Playstation seems to offer are the exclusive games, which aren't all that exclusive anymore.Valve's value proposition is just so much better than what Sony is offering.
@ronkubo64696 күн бұрын
@@pool842 You missed the point. My argument is not "buy a Stamdeck OLED instead of a PS 5 pro", but "the marketing of the OLED was significantly better than that of the PS 5 pro". Moreover, the added value of the OLED is worth the higher price of the LCD models. The fact that 70% of all PS5 customers choose the performance mode could also be an indication that better graphics are not important for most gamers. An extra 350 Euros for slightly better graphics quality doesn't seem to be a good deal for most customers. And actually, I would rather buy a ps 5 than a pro and recommend it to those who have enough money. You can put your money to better use.

20:37 you are missing the point of why gamers accept the steam deck oled price vs. ps5 price. The steam deck is a handheld gaming device with the power to run most triple a games and the premium version, the steam deck oled, has performance jump of a 50% increase in frame rates over the lcd version. From 60 fps to 90 fps is a noticeable difference. The amateur ps5 can already run games at 120 fps, the pro ps5 is also 120 fps. So no increase in the frame rate, and it’s not portable. So here's my question about the ps5 pricing. How much wiggle room does Sony really have on the price here? While $700 might be slightly on the high side from what everyone's come to expect, I wonder if it was the only price that made sense in this economy. It's not like they can just go source chips somewhere else, not to mention the growing demand for AI capabilities in chips, add a dose of inflation on top of that and the price tag starts to look more reasonable if you're standing in Sony's shoes.

I end up getting a Steam Deck after that and has been my absolute favorite platform to play is like getting all the good things about PC gaming without the bad one my only draw is not being able to play the most recent AAA titles in my Steam deck and I know I have the PS5 for that but I am seriously considering jumping back into the PC world (this time not with a laptop but with a real PC) after looking how expensive consoles are getting. The price gap is so so close that if you think about it paying for online service and been tied to the PS Store which tent to be way more expensive than Steam it actually bring the price closer and closer to the point that easy to use end up been the only selling factor for consoles this day. So even if it’s scary when things don’t work and I willing to learn and put the extra work and not feeling scammed. Idk just my thoughts maybe there are other things I am not considering. I'm not interested in it regardless, especially given that these games I would want are eventually coming to Steam (pretty much waiting for FF7 Rebirth). I haven't given it much thought but hearing y'all mention the OG PS5 digital version is $450 kind of piqued my interest. If PS5 had more 'true' exclusives then I would definitely consider picking one up. With the rise of 'timed exclusives', I feel like the last valid argument for owning a console over PC is still the matter of 'convenience'. As Bill mentioned, just slapping a button and having your TV turn on and immediately going back to a game precisely where you stopped several hours/days ago is near-peak gaming convenience. That being said, I'm more interested in the next stage of PC handhelds where we get PS5 level game performance and visuals on a steam deck sized portable device. The 'Switch 2' will probably be the only console I'm interested in picking up in the near future, and that's only if there's a new exclusive launch(Mario) game. One of the problems that a lot of people have is that they've forgotten that Sony was the Apple before Apple. Or technics. Pick your brand. You have to remember that the walkman was a premium expensive product it was out of the reach of most people. Sony Trinitron TVs top of the line massively expensive. Sony for a long time were prestige electronics. But you're in the '90s that crown slipped so the products had to become cheaper to stay relevant. And this is not the first time that Sony's tried to push their prices back up to where think they should be. Look at the launch of the PS3 and how expensive that unit was. Big problem we have here that they don't really have any substantial competition. Microsoft seem to have given up on consoles. Nintendo is resolutely doing its own thing. The next few years will be a perfect opportunity for someone to slip into the market and do an Xbox or do a PlayStation 1 and launch something incredible that blows everyone's socks off. The move to PC architecture may have been good for manufacturing, but it seems to me that it's stifled innovation and pushed up prices for the consumer.

38:40 I haven't bought a console since PS3... Aren't physical discs only basically keys now? Most "Modern games" have DRM, a billion patches and always require online. Is the game actually on the disc? Isn't it mainly just an install file to start patching the 80-120g game? I ONLY play on Steam, and when was the last time steam actually took a game down? (Outside of scams like the day before)
@Sherolox8 күн бұрын
The only console still somewhat plug&play is the Switch. Yes, day one patches and additional updates do exist, but unless it's an online game, you don't need them. Just insert the cartridge and play (if the game ships with a cartridge in the first place, which I sadly have to add).

The comparison between the pricing of the Steam Deck models and the PS5 pro is a bad argument, because in the case of the Steam Deck, users have options to offset the cost of the fundamentally different model of device, compared to the PS5 Pro and PS5 pricing. If you were to take the OLED Deck out of that, it's still the option of ofsetting the price of the device directly, since the PS5 Pro isn't the same thing as the PS5 hardware wise, it's a different model (which means the experience has larger differences at a base level of use, unlike Deck versions where the differences are middling stuff like storage size, or screen type which itself can be offset further from alternatives like screen protectors and SD cards). Pricing between the PS5 and Pro models cannot be offset from their base price, and the differences in experience are much larger between them. The conparison is relative to the differences between the base price of the Deck and OLED Deck *as different models*, which were priced in a way that allowed users to offset the price they're paying to still get the base device at more reasonable prices

Yes, more Linux-based, Valve-branded computers please. My only concern is going up to 4K, how much will it cost to get at least 30-60+ FPS?
@Jay-UEVR8 күн бұрын
It could be amazing if it targeted 1080p with good upscaling technology to 4K. That could be a compromise to get the price down with high FPS.
@BlueEyedVibeChecker8 күн бұрын
4K is still a waste of resources. As someone who went back to 1440P 120Hz from 4K, I can confirm the slightly increased pixel number changed only one thing. The number of pixels... Everything else was exactly the same, want it sharper? Just turn up the sharpness in the video settings and then you lose no performance and reap all of the benefits.

Phones went from $300 to $1000+, but consoles must be $500 forever. Oh, and you need a $1000 a year subscription for phones to actually function as phones, but console online services should be free.

The PS5 Pro doesn't do enough to earn the $700 USD prise tage over the base PS5. You get some more storage and a better GPU, but the CPU is the same - which is still going to act as a bottleneck for CPU dependent games. Not only that, but they removed the disk drive and stand, which will increase the price to over $800 USD if you wish to get them. The Difference between the base Steam Deck and OLED models are far larger, however. Faster and larger storage, a better and smaller chipset, a 90 hertz OLED display over the 60 hertz LCD panel, a rework of the internals, better cooling, etc, etc. All for around the same price as the previous 1TB LCD model that it replaced.

Gamers care about performance, and the ps5 amateur can already run games on 120 fps, there is no reason to upgrade to ps5 pro without any jumps in fps it can handle. There is no amount of marketing that will change the value they offered to me, especially with that price point, and the online gaming tax Sony makes you pay. I’ll just buy a steam deck and buy a nice dock to play on my tv when I want to do some console gaming.

I used to play like GTA5 and emulation on it all the time, but now i just check recipes and like... this video. i love it but i just don't have a use for it atm... even the Ps4 is now jailbroken on 11.00 firmware, so i have that on my tv, and the deck. so this poor lil steam deck is just set as a kitchen aid lol. i could prob sell it and still buy n100 pc for like 120$ and the n100 would do exactly what i need to do.

I totally agree with the price outrage of the PS5 Pro & not the high priced Steam Deck. With that said, I think people that own & game on various devices at different price points I assume won’t complain much, but since it’s a mainstream brand like PlayStation I think it creates a lot more noise from people. There also seems to be a lot of fake outrage out there too. PS5 Pro just offers more choice to us gamers, not taking things away. Steam Deck topic on the other hand leans more to the hardcore/niche audience. I’m always for advancing tech & I will be picking one up.

I didn't even include the cost of the PSN online matchmaking and online saves per month (or year). It's an absurd argument to try and make PS gamers feel better about being fleeced.

To the point of "why do people spend 700 on a Steam Deck but not on a Playstation". I can`t speak for all gamers but the value proposition in my head is that 700 is not the final price for a console at least not if you want to play online. Lets say the console has a 10 year Lifespan then I have to get 10 years of online subscription for it that is easy 1000 bucks likely more on top of that 700 and now we are at 1700 for a console. To me 1700 is eighter a very nice Gaming PC setup or a Steam Deck with a lot of deep discounted games.

Now that handheld PC’s have advanced enough to play AAA games at 45 to 60+fps (granted at low to mid setting) I am done with consoles. I always hated rebuying games every new generation and up until recently, there wasn’t much backwards compatibility. With PC handhelds I can play games that I purchased 15+yrs ago on steam and now you have some what of a variety of operating systems you can load to customize your experience (windows, SteamOS and steamOS variants) if you want more of a desktop or console like experience. Also, with PC handhelds there are more store fronts (competition) to drive game prices down.

"Consoles are cheaper than PCs" Sony: Are you sure about that? PC has more exclusives than the PS5, even the Virtual Boy has more, the 32X has more and that only has 40 games in total. It's very sad. I harbour no excitement for any hardware outside of Nintendo hardware now because I enjoy seeing what they'll do next, I moved to PC after the PS3 Cbomb, PS4 Cbomb, PS Vita death, Xbox One fiasco and have never looked back except to my older SEGA systems and Nintendo hardware. Either Sony gets competition, or Nintendo is the sole saving grace for console gaming. Either way Sony's not saving anything.
