As a northern man from Yorkshire, the pubs and inns of middle earth remind me of my own local establishments in the local towns and villages. If you've never been to a small Yorkshire pub with the fire in the fireplace, and a plate of roast lamb and vegetables, along with a pint of good Yorkshire beer, you've missed out. 🏴🇬🇧

@@GaryYork-tk2ow It's on my list for sure. I lived in Europe for several years, and it's one of the things I always dreamed of, touring the north of England and Scotland, I've been to London, and that's fine, I like the museums, but I am a county girl. Not sure now that I will get a chance to get back across the Atlantic, but one never knows! Thanks!

@youcancallmeana Northern England is a completely different world from the south, especially London. It's more like what England used to be like years ago. The people are friendlier I think, and the countryside is simply amazing. If you come, take a tour through Yorkshire, its the most beautiful region of the country I think. Although I might be a wee bit biased!

I can attest to your statements my friend, I'm a southerner from West Sussex having visited York recently, the nearby villages and pubs definitely host more of a fantastical/traditional vibe which I don't feel for my local pubs

There is always something about pubs and inns that brings or adds so much more life to a fantasy world than anything else, perhaps more so than any other added aspect. People meet and are met, stories are exchanged, information is gained, food is eaten, drinks are drank, songs are sang, adventurers rest and adventures begin.

The Ivy Bush in Birmingham is only 450 metres from The Oratory, which played an important role in Tolkien's life. 300 metres away is Perrot's Folly, reputed to be one of the towers that influenced Tolkien's Two Towers. The other tower was either the tower like structure at Edgbaston Waterworks, only 0.5 kilometre away or the clock tower at Birmingham University, which is 2 kilometres from the Ivy Bush. I used to see these every working day travelling to and from work.

...I don't know where you find all those amazing images, but the Golden Perch felt suddenly very appealing - looking stunning... I would start the day with visiting Farmer Maggot, then taking the Buckleberry Ferry over to Buckland, have a look at the magnificent Brandy Hall, and eventually taking the ferry back and make my way through the approaching dusk just in time before dark to get to the Inn, for sustenance and a bed... if I got the distances right, I might need a pony for this ...not sure if you could drag it onto the ferry, but I could just leave it bound to the jetty, until my return... 😃

According to research conducted by a branch of the Tolkien Society, the Bell Inn in Moreton-in-Marsh was the source of inspiration when Tolkien created the Prancing Pony, since the former also has three storeys and an "entrance via a courtyard, and Moreton's similarities to the town of Bree".

Holy molé, a million subs, congrats! And another cool, cozy vid with gorgeous art choices as well. BUUUUT...something I only learned a few years ago is that although on paper a tavern/inn (or inn/tavern) sounds great, that concept is NOT based on historical reality, which has them separated like 90% of the time for a simple reason: When somebody is trying to sleep (night OR day), they're not trying to hear a bunch of gdmf noise, that's just gonna force them to buckle on their weapons, come downstairs and DEAL WITH IT.
