After his utterly tragic and wasteful death, I hope Mandos at least allowed him expedited reincarnation in Valinor. I’d also like to imagine that during the Dagor Dagorath, the resurrected Turin would encounter Beleg again and sorrowfully apologize for what he did.

Evil wastes all things and leads to the waste of all others. But perhaps the Strongbow did get reincarnated… but perhaps instead, he was reincarnated elsewhere with another name: Legolas.

Man, the entire Turin story is just one sad calamity after another. It’s easily one of Tolkien’s saddest works. Yet one of my favorite Tolkien scenes ever is when he passes Tuor in the mist, how different their fates are in that moment.
@valentinkambushev4968
@valentinkambushev4968 Жыл бұрын
I think what makes Turin's story differently from Tolkien's other works is that there is no silver lining in it. In almost all of Tolkien's writings, regardless of how tragic things are, there is always a light in the tunnel. Turin's story doesn't have one. You wouldn't even know it was written by Tolkien's, if it wasn't for the references to his other works.

Because the race of Men (Edain) had aided the Elves (Noldor and Sindar) in their long war against him, it is important to remember that Morgoth, out of pure, vindictive hatred, had afflicted Hurin and his family with a black curse of misfortune and evil luck. In doing so, he poured out a great portion of his power into this curse. Though Hurin's family suffered unbearably unto despair and death from Morgoth's malice, the world at large was blessed in that Morgoth, by that time, had weakened his own Fea to a point where he became vulnerable to later assault from Aman, even in his deep stronghold of Thangorodrim.

Another great video. Thank you as always. Have you ever done a video about the slave-worked fields in Mordor that provided Sauron's army with much of its food? From a Tolkien letter to a fan who had asked about what the orcs ate: "You're not the first to have asked this question; in fact Sam pondered the very same thing on the way to Mount Doom (RotK Book VI Chapter 2: The Land of Shadow): 'I don't like the look of things at all,' said Sam. 'Pretty hopeless, I call it - saving that where there's such a lot of folk there must be wells or water, not to mention food. And these are Men not Orcs, or my eyes are all wrong.' To which the author notes: Neither he nor Frodo knew anything of the great slave-worked fields away south in this wide realm, beyond the fumes of the Mountain by the dark sad waters of Lake Nurnen; nor of the great roads that ran away east and south to tributary lands, from which the soldiers of the Tower brought long waggon-trains of goods and booty and fresh slaves. Would be a very interesting watch!

I have a few questions regarding Melkor/Morgoth, and his quest to find The Flame Imperishable/Secret Fire, as I'm reading The Silmarillion right now. The book says that when the world was first created, Eru Illuvatar placed The Secret Fire in the center of the world. Did Melkor/Morgoth know that? If he did, did Melkor/Morgoth ever try to reach the center of the world (Like "Drilling to The Core of The Earth" sort-of-thing), so he could have Eru's infinite, life-creating power for himself? I mean, as the most powerful of all The Ainur, he was powerful enough to lift up whole mountain ranges, and just generally terraform Arda into whatever he wanted, though the other Ainur always tried to undo his machinations, as he would to them. Why wouldn't he just make a gigantic hole in the ground that went to the core of Arda, and acquire The Secret Fire in its depths? Obviously, he never managed to gain the power to truly create life by acquiring The Flame Imperishable, but could he have done so, if he knew that it was down there?

Read this book (Children of Hurin) a 2nd time a few months ago and yeah it's not any easier seeing what befalls Beleg in this story because he was trying so hard to do the right thing at every part of the story he was involved with and yet his fate ends so tragically. Nonetheless, glad you did a video on him to show how good of a character he was and that he would certainly be someone I'd love to see an adaptation of in a live-action remake of this book. Peter Jackson, please do us one more favor and try to capitalize on the critique of Rings of Power and do these lost tale books to show Amazon how to truly honor Tolkein's work!
