@@OneTwoMark Well it could mean that the dynasty changes, which often happens if the only heir is a daughter, thus taking the name of the husband. Or it could mean that in 100 generations, Aragorn and the war of the ring have passed into legend. This is already the case for many medieval Kings, think of Charlemagne and the Crusaders, who are more myths now than Kings of old. Or if you're a real sadist, that the realms came to an end, and all fell into ruin, thus setting up the world for our times.

Faramir is such a fantastic character, and he marries an equally fantastic character! '"Not if I found it on the highway would I take it" I said.' Such self-control is rare indeed among men! And Éowyn proves to be one of the biggest badasses of the age, with the strength not only to be a warrior, but to, after unparalleled success, (seriously, nobody defeats a more impressive combatant in all of the Third Age unless you count Gandalf killing the Balrog) reject that calling for more noble pursuits. They both forsake the romance of violence within their cultures and instead focus on bringing and preserving life. Together they form a powerful thesis about the natures of war and peace, of power, of healthy relationships, and the value of counselors and healers.

Aragorn's farewell to Arwen is one of the most powerful moments in all of Tolkien's writings. The Lord of the Rings, all of His works, are more than just fantasy; the elves and ork, and battles and magic. They are an epic of mankind's travel through life, and joy and sorrow, struggle, defeat and triumph. And in the end, inevitable death. The final lesson Tolkien teaches us is not to fear death, for death is not the end of it all. Fear of death and the senseless pursuit of immortality are what doomed Numenor, the greatest weapons in the hands of Evil to twist our minds, our actions. In his final days, during his hardest trial, Aragorn shows as much wisdom as he's ever shown valor and courage in his life, accepting at last the gift of Eru to his secondborn sons, men. The Halls of Mandos await for all of us, one day, and then... on.

Its crazy to think that a lot of the initial writings for LOTR where when Tolkien was sick from the trenches of WWI and that sickness was the only reason he survived while almost all his childhood friends died in the war. He fought at the front lines of the Battle of the Somme for 5 days and many say that the desolate, crater pocked land of Mordor is based on the scenes of that battle in WWI. I believe the Dead Marshes were also inspired by all the bodies that were strewn about at the Somme and many were never recovered (Including his best friend, Ralph Stuart "the Baby" Payton ). The Ring Wraiths and the lasting horror of encountering them almost make them like the personification of the true horror of war and the lasting psychological damage. Its somber to think the horror and sorrow Tokein went through and how that helped shape his books and how real the emotions are when you read them.

We don’t know if Frodo and Sam were still alive when the Elf and Dwarf arrived, but they might’ve been. Sam’s last confirmed meeting with Aragorn was in Gondor with Rosie and Elanor, but perhaps they met halfway and got to say a last goodbye when Sam set out for the Grey Havens, which was also Sam’s last parting from Merry and Pippin. Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli were all either residents of Gondor or frequent visitors when Merry and Pippin retired there, so they probably all saw each other a lot. @@pratiksrma3728 Part of Numenors rebellion was bitterness at the fact that they are Men that must die, while the Elves and the Valar are immortal and tied to the Earth. The Kings of Numenor (under Sauron's influence) viewed Death as some kind of unfair curse - being forced to grow old and leave the world and go somewhere mysterious and unknown, so they rebelled by trying to invade Valinor to become immortal themselves. The Elves kept trying to tell them "It's not a curse, it's just how God made you, and I'm sure it's for a good reason." They weren't convinced, and it all went bad. I cannot remember now where I read this but there was an "unofficial" version of Eldarions reign that Tolkien had apparently spoken to somebody about, that he would reign with the dignity and splendour of his father, with the wisdom and grace of his mother but not confined by the evil that defined their lives. Essentially that he'd rule as a great ruler, much like his father, but with light behind him, not shadow. I find that very comforting for some reason, that even though Aragon would rule in the likeness of the Greatest Numenorean Kings he still witnessed that Evil and had to defeat it, somewhat a bitter sweet life and rule, something that his descendants wouldn't have bearing down on them.

@loneronin68134 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I see it as beautiful but not exactly sad. I'm not saying you're wrong or that you should see it my way, only that I look at it a bit differently. To my eyes, their sacrifices for one another, fatal though they were, just shows how enduring their love for one another was and always will be, even though they have passed on. There is nothing more uplifting than those who choose to spend their lives together in love even though the span of their time in the physical world is shortened. In the end, they chose a short life together rather than an eternal one apart. Throughout the last moments of her life, Arwen reminisced with her mind and heart looking back on the happiest days of her existence before letting go of her last mortal breath in a restful peace. I can't think of many ways to leave this life better than that.

Honestly, the story of Éomer and Aragorn leading their forces into the East and South to route out the last of Sauron's forces among the Easterlings and Haradrim, with the actors from the trilogy coming back, would make a sequel or two, maybe a two part film, I'd be totally down for. Seeing the last grasps of evil being defeated, and seeing the East and South of Middle Earth in full glory would be fantastic if done well. Maybe if War of the Rohirrim is good and a success we could get another animated film about that. That, or the Battle of Dale during the War of the Ring, both would be great to see in either animation or live action. If, that is, it's done well.
