To answer the dude at 6:45. The opposite of DEI is faithful representation. Black panther had a black cast because Wakanda is a fictional country in Africa. If you make a movie about say, the trans community, it makes sense that the cast is 80-100% trans. The problem is that they are making movies about the general population or even historical periods and misrepresenting them by either overrepresentating minorities or even "making Cleopatra black". In the end, it simply stops resonating with the general audience, not because they are any -ist or -ism, but because what's on the screen has no relation with their experiences or even with the common conception of events, e.g. I don't care about Cleopatra's skin colour, but if that's changed, then how can I be sure about the veracity of everything else in a so-called documentary?

It's obvious that disney made Black Panther as an excuse to make a film with an all black cast to check that box, but it was a well written, entertaining film and so they've just shot themselves in the foot because they have no argument for pumping s**t out and blaming the audience that didn't like it. There has been plenty of diversity for decades in film and tv, we just don't need beating over the head with it.

That guy had such a typical response from a Disney DEI representative. The truth is clear and simple, make a good story and you can insert any representation you want. Shogun was phenomenal. Fallout was also diverse and was universally loved. Black Panther was succesful and worked because 1. People loved the character and after it's introduction in civil war there was immense hype 2. It was representative to the culture in that fictional African country, of course it made sense for the cast to be of color, absolutely no one complained about that. It's not rocket science

The thing is, they are making these movies awful on purpose. If they were writing entertaining and coherent stories with likeable characters, people would watch the movies, and Disney wouldn't be able to call them bigots. The audience would be proving they don't care about diversity, they care about good stories. But that isn't the narrative Disney wants to create, so they have to make their movies terrible on purpose to push the audience into not watching them, in order to push their divisive political narrative. If all Disney cared about was making money, they would have abandoned this plan years ago when it was proven they were losing money, but instead they care about pushing political narratives far more, to the point of losing money. That is making it harder for them to lie about what they are doing.

When the mcu got started the actors and directors actually read the comics and watched the shows to do research. Ryan was excited about Wolverine Origins because he fell in love with the character. Now Disney hires people who purposely avoid doing research. This is the result

Black Panther was not a good film, the CGI was hot garbage the acting was passable, the main characters story was weak and poorly developed unlike his character in Civil War, the black tribes men wooting like apes was racist but its ok when Disney does it. The reason it made bank is it came off the heels of a massive franchise boost released between Civil War and Infinity war and the manipulation through advertising of the audience by basically saying if you don't go see this film your racist.

7:25 Also how bad is your argument where you can't name a film that came out in the last 5 years. Black Panther came out in 2018, the covid thing is a huge variable and changed the market so to bring up a film from before it and before the disney slump is dishonest and frankly is everything he was trying to accuse Nerdrotic and the critical drinker of. To give Nerdrotic and Critical Drinker full credit they were trying to be fair, if they succeeded isn't my place to say(I think they did but again I'm biased so I won't say if they were) and that's more than this guy was being. Using fantique would be a valid argument if there weren't examples that fly in the face of that, Superhero fantique is an argument they often use but there's anime and games that have succeeded in a climate where if that argument was valid, they simply wouldn't have plus a lot of those successful example are diverse anyway. Diversity when it's done naturally and you just let the product flow organically turns out some really good products.
