7:00 Mahito isn’t the the curse of humanity. He’s the curse of the fear of humans, all the disaster curses are based on fears that humanity has; Jogo is the fear of fire/volcanos, Hanami is the fear of nature/polution, Dagon is the fear of water/oceans. They’re called disaster curses because their reason of being born is a specific fear, not just negative emotion itself.

Mahito explained in season 1. That he isnt the curse of humanity. He is the manifestation of the hatred humans have towards each other.

Mahito being played and absorbed by Geto is a parallel with Junpei storyline in S1.

14:14 yeah the whole point was that Mei Mei was a groomer; she's wants Ui Ui's devotion for what he can do for her (specifically technique wise). She said the value of a person's life was what they could offer her. She's meant to be a foil to Nanami, who cared about protecting children and had a more altruistic worldview. He left a cushy job as a salaryman where all he could think about was money, to being a sorcerer who impacted people's lives directly instead. However whereas Nanami got punished for it, Mei Mei gets to live.

What makes the Geto brain guy's reveal as Kamo extra fucked up, is if you remember.. Kamo Noritoshi is the sorcerer who "forcefully" (I think we all know which four letter word is more accurate) impregnated and had his pregnant wife go through abortions 9 times to create the Cursed Wombs that would be the two guys from the end of last season that Itadori and Kugisaki killed and Choso. While it's not clear at this point which of Itadori's parents that he killed and replaced to have Yuji, the implications are wild and explain why Choso absolutely SNAPS here. This guy literally fucked over Choso's entire family from before he was even created, and he barely avoided being made complicit in having his own hands used to do it again, on top of finding out that his father went and messed with yet another family to make his newly found brother. Whatever the hell it was that Yuji's grandpa wanted to say that he said "nah I'm aight" to at the start of the show must have been CRAZY.

7:18 that form I believe is just armor, so to me it reads of as Mahito using what humanity finds scary to shape the armor, but monsters, the ones humanity imagines, are always very human at their center. Kinda how when people commit heinous acts they're called monsters, when no, they are just people, and to me, recognizing that the most monstrous acts are done by people is very important. I might be reading too much into it, but I always thought of the armor as what humanity thinks of monsters. 11:53 THANK YOU! Many people get so annoyed when Kusakabe says that, but ??? he doesn't know Itadori, however he just now experienced the destruction Itadori is capable of. Executing him is the most logical choice. 14:18 yeah nah they're just extremely weird. Just, I ignore that whole bit always. Mei-Mei is one manipulative freak. Fake Geto has been trying to get Mahito in his roster for the loooooooongest time. Thanks to Yuji he was able to. Ah next episode is so good, I love it so much. 2x23 is my favorite episode of the season, I'm so excited for your commentary. 23:40 I agree! it's a looooooooooooooooooong arc with so many characters. I agree 100% with you. But yeah, these are the two episodes that kinda set-up the story. However, it took hella long to get there XD I really love your reactions, you're incredibly insightful which I appreciate, I also like that you're critical, you're not just thinking how cool the fights and animations are, but you actually talk about the plot.

Yup, I also agree with your points! One thing I also want to mention, now that this episode is out, is that Nerdy actually predicted Mahito being absorbed by Fake Geto (or Kamo Noritoshi, as he was referred as in S2E22) in his reaction to S2E07 at 5:07 minute mark! Just thought that it was cool of Nerdy to pick up one of his subtle goals early on. Great insight! :)

I saw the Mei Mei thing as just another contrast to Nanami. They are perfect foils to each other. Nanami is very serious. Mei Mei is not. Nanami is a sorcerer because he doesn't care about money. Mei Mei is only in it for the money. When shit hits the fan, Nanami barely survives but keeps going. He wants to retire Malaysia once his work is done. Mei Mei flees to that very place when things get tough. Nanami is looking out for kids until the very end. It's basically his entire role in the narrative. In every situation he's in he's supporting and protecting kids. He builds them up for their own sake. Mei Mei uses her kid brother as bait. The last Mei Mei scene highlights all of these things, despite being very short. She's being unserious while mistreating a child. She's in Malaysia. She looks largely unharmed. She moves some money around.

2:48 I agree. This was the first manga I picked up back in 2019 or so, and for this series I kinda just went along for the ride. Then when the anime came out I went along for the ride but this time with beautiful animation. The story is there.. kinda, but then at this point, like you said, we really don’t know what the Getwo’s plan is so it just feels like we’re just fighting

I feel like Mahito's final form is made specifically to kill Itadori. Yuji is very physically gifted so he made a form to combat that. Also the anime doesn't explain this, but Mahito made binding vows to make the form stronger by not allowing him to use Idle Transfiguration on himself like he usually does in fights.

@burningnyte That isn't how literary symbols work. Nebulous concepts can still be alluded to through symbols.Maybe bloody hands, dead eyes or intense eyes. Maybe give him a draining attack to represent sucking the energy from others. Obviously you can still be inventive, but there should be some connection to be made, where for Mahito there is none. I also think the claim of that being how Gege imagines the dark side of humanity is weak. It clearly is just a cool design for a final form, what could possibly be alluding to the dark side of humanity here?
