Nerf Community "Secret Santa" Build - Custom Doublestrike Integration

I had the wonderful opportunity to participate in a Nerf Community Secret Santa this year, so I whipped up this little Doublestrike.
Zombona was the recipient selected for me, so I originally attempted to convert it to Boomco, but unfortunately that effort was fruitless.
The blaster features a Nitefinder grip, Reflex Muzzle, and tac rails from a Rapidstrike and Stryfe.
Internals are stock.
All in all, a fun little blaster, and I'm pretty pleased with how it came out, especially considering the time frame I had to work with.

Ben Lam thanks, but as a creator, you have an image in your head of how you'd like it to look. When the final product doesn't quite match that, it's a bit disappointing regardless of how well it actually turned out.

The Nitefinder grip was a nice choice. The lines on the back echo the Doublestrike's detailing around the hammer. Nice work!

Awesome little pistol! I hope I see this at the war this weekend. I've always wanted a boomco messenger, but kinda figured I'd have the same issues you did. Super cool that you went to the effort to try and convert it to Boomco though. Zombona does love boomco but uses Nerf blasters also, so he'll be ok. lol

Naptown Nerf blono did it to his rough cut and I did a voidcaster. just need to make the barrels longer so the rubber head keeps the dart in and keeps the smart ar from popping the dart out. It works pretty good but upgrading the spring is recommended as the darts are heavier

I love this design so much. It reminded me a bit of my first pistol mod, which I plan to redo. Mine was a Nightfinder with a Reflect slide and a Maverick slide to cover the priming handle.

Once you painted it, I couldn't even tell that it was a total integration! That is literally the best integration job I've ever seen in my life! It's so flush!

Next time make the barrel longer so that the ribs and head of the dart touch the xploderz barrel. That will help keep the dart from sliding out so easy. I have done it this way to a Voidcaster. Works really good and the fit is fine. You just need a stronger spring cause the darts are heavier. It won’t shoot too good with a stock spring. With the upgraded spring I think the best you can do it get around 75fps which is still good for BOOMco. If you have any other projects you want to try with BOOMco stuff just let me know and I can help

Boom tendo thanks. I tried the longer barrel, but the ribs on most of my darts were ever so slightly larger than the head, and created an overly snug, but not "sealing" fit. Perhaps I just have some early darts or an inconsistent batch or something. I got a few of them to work, but not enough that I felt the blaster would fire reliably with other darts.

"It came out alright" GIVE YOURSELF MORE CREDIT. The integration lines are nonexistent. I looked at the thumbnail and thought "what is that? Not "what did he make" until I saw it unpainted I thought it was an out of the box blaster. Fantastic job

Matt McCoy Thanks a bunch! But like I mentioned in a previous comment, I really "felt" the time crunch, and had to cut a few corners to make the deadline. While the blaster did turn out well, I know how much better it could've been, had I been able to have another couple days to work on it. Another instance where the creator can see every flaw and shortcoming. But yes, I'm very pleased overall with how it came out.

Hey, have you heard of the "Doublestrike wall of Awesomeness" project? It's a project by a fellow modder and collector of mine who is basically handing out Doublestrike so people mod them for him to display at conventions and digitally, To show off the variety of modding and what's possible. He currently has about 80 DS and more and more international modders are joining in too

Pretty awesome, though I might have went with a nerf element grip over a night finder grip. I also would've went with a more vertical grip angle Overall it looks great though, I'm not a fan of red but you did paint it in all the right areas for sure.

Tyler Snyder Still haven't been able to scare up an Element yet, but I do like the looks of it, and the extra sweep on the grip was intentional. I actually wouldn't have minded a little more, but was bound by the constraints of the internal mechanism.

4:07 how to zoom in MrNathan style. Step 1. Zoom out. Step 2. Zoom in. That actually does look really cool and you've fixed the one issue I have with the doublestrike: I can't rven hold it with that grip. The Maverick is one of nerfs better grips.

ED-SKaR (grumble) cursed zoom... The Nitefinder handle fits pretty darn great, but kinda screws with the aesthetic "balance" of the blaster. Definitely needs the muzzle extension as well. Speaking of Mavericks... I've been meaning to size up a Maverick grip to a Hammershot, but just haven't had the two on the bench together yet (foreshadowing?).

perfect grip for me requires you to kill a vortex gun. Either that or a toy gun with real firearm proportions(1911 or SA80 for my hand is perfect because I've trained with them so much). I've actually had a thought about booomco straw flavoured darts, I used 7 slash whatever imperial nonsense fits the boomco straw the best (the same stuff you have in this vid) And I cut it with a pipe cutter, I then flared out one end with either a dremel and a sanding stone OR a hammer and a eyelet punch (I've now lost my 10mm eyelet punch so I can't do that anymore). If you do it bit by bit and test fit a dartstraw into it then you can very easily get a good fit on the front of the strawdart. Also 4:45 that is the sound of you loosing screws, that is an all to familiar sound.

So, what kind of putty do you use? The reason I ask is because I’m going to improve the stock on a buzzbeetoys waking dead rifle, and the most reasonable way to go is putty

I use Devcon Plastic Welder (MMA) for actual bonding, but if I need to blend even more, I use Apoxie Sculpt (non structural)
