A Nerf for Science Idea: What effects does a second pair of flywheels have on performance with all 4 motors being the same vs having the rear 2 motors (closest to the mag) being torque focused (or less RPM) and the front 2 motors being speed focused (higher RPM than the first 2 motors), with a standard modified 2 flywheel blaster as a control. Example: 2 fang revamps followed by 2 honey badgers (fangs for torque , honey badgers for speed) vs 4 fang revamps vs 4 honey badgers vs 2 fang revamps vs 2 honey badgers. all cages being the same with the same.

Cap, I noticed with canted cages the dart type matters. When I used elite darts they would spin wildly out the barrel as if I was playing in a heavy windstorm. Once I changed to accufakes or waffle heads, I found that my canted cage setup was more accurate than my other flywheel setup. Most of my flywheelers are regular and I have 1 canted that I rarely play with. Either way great video and hopefully we will get to play soon...

heres a thought do canted cages do better in higher fps builds. higher normally causes more deviation, but would a canted cage do better at higher fps and for example same blasters on a 3s. 1. Is there a difference in grouping? how much? 2. Is the fps difference larger? if so how much? 3. Does the canted cage impart even more spin and higher fps? 4. Would the wurly birds increase in frequency or would they decrease because the higher rotations keep the dart straighter? Nice! Wasn't expecting the video out quite this soon, but very good for a stage 1. :) Stage 2 is the same tests, but on 3s. (Which is why I chose FRVs.) My prediction is that this will exacerbate the fishtailing tremendously, and prove not to be worth it. (But external ballistics are complex, and it is possible that the higher speed and thus higher spin will stabilize the darts better.) Stage 3 is to do stage 1 and 2 but with a Eze stryfe short dart adapter. :) I'd absolutely use mini-bamboos for this, as they are BY FAR the highest quality half darts. Stage 4 is to put a short length of faux barrel to stabilize the darts. Loose enough that most darts won't touch them, but tight enough that it restricts the fishtailing. I owe you words. . .

I’m at 1:06, perfect time for speculation. I think that Ryan from MTB is spot on. A canted cage will compensate for any irregularities in foam darts, making cheap or worn darts more consistent. At least at low velocity’s, push to much past 120 and the spin will be to high. I think that good, new darts will see minimum improvements. Beginning of the video speculation so I will update with a reply once I watch the video.

The Regulator, which i believe has canted flywheels, is way more accurate both with standard ellite as well as with MenGun style darts. Here is my understanding of projectile stabilization and my two cents of canted wheels or uncanted. The most common way to stabilize a projectile is to impart spin on it, that only works if the spin is consistent if the spin is inconsistent either in direction or in Revelations it can actually damage your grouping I believe the extra spin on the canted wheels is what cause you to have a tighter group however with longer projectiles a spin can actually be more harmful than good because you begin to fishtail, now if that is consistent you can work with it but generally fishtail is not. In conclusion I do not believe you're going to make too much of an improvement with canted Wheels but it probably will be a slight improvement over non canted, but with my understanding of projectiles if you can get a tighter spin on the dart it will improve your group or you should be able to get a similar effect with a shorter Dart like half lengths. With the projectiles I understand the shorter ones are easier to stabilize however if you can stabilize the longer ones they normally stay stable for longer distance. However I don't know if you'll have enough velocity to property spin stabilized a standard length Nerf dart because velocity, weight, length, shape, and revolutions per second all apply to stabilizing a projectile. So with all that said in theory a half length dart with a pointy head and a "boat tail" with a canted cage should be the best for accuracy. However that's all just a hypothesis applying my knowledge of other projectiles. I could be completely wrong and this all could be detrimental. This is just my two cents backed by my knowledge so take it with a grain of salt. ( I apologize for how long winded this comment is)
@Crunkboy4154 жыл бұрын
I think it's more the wheels aren't touching the entire dart as a rifled barrel would creating more stabilization. The wheels will more than likely slightly push the back end of the dart at an angle, causing a fishtail. It's like throwing a football. Throwing a tight spiral is not a matter of more force, but releasing the ball straight rather than an angle, which tends to make the ball wobble.

Im using a non metal canted 42.5mm flywheel cage with worker "diagonal" groove flywheels on MTB neo rhinos motor running 3s lipo. I had tried with accufake/accustrike darts, nert elite darts, variants of nipple darts and fvj/solid tip darts. My set up works well for most except for accufake/accustrike. Yes, some darts may appears "wobbly" but that is like a few darts out of 30-40 shots each time i tried. And the grouping is small, so i can live with that. As for fps, different darts produce different fps. I can't determine much on this part. As for range, i am still testing with different darts. No conclusion yet. In my opinion, the spinning does stabilise the darts. Maybe is just my own observations.

Actually pretty interesting what I would find intereting is if the same results could possible by achieved by a lose and low twist scar barrel (Eg the 16mm BT Scar) and weather it has a greater or lower impact on FPS ( I would amuse more rotation less spin?) Very cool experiment though
@ekulretlas4 жыл бұрын
Scar's don't actually impart enough spin for the projectile to be spin stableised, what they actually do is normalise the exhaust of the pressure so that it is even on the rear of the dart on a 2D plane which limits how greatly the pressure release when the dart exit's the barrel will bump it off course. A loose or low twist scar barrel will generaly either impart to much friction or not allow enough of the pressure equalise before the dart exits. Unfortunately i can remember where i saw smarter people than me testing and doing the math on this stuff.
@Fusako84 жыл бұрын
I'd expect the SCAR to decrease velocity more for the same rotation from the canted cage. The scar uses friction to convert forward velocity to rotational. But we absolutely should test this. :)
@TheNanoEvolution4 жыл бұрын
@@ekulretlas Whilst i understand how scars work on springers, my personal experance with dart heads that already attempt to empart spin (eg accustrike darts) in low crush flywheels is that there is a to the eye accuracy increase. (On longer arched shots) I expect though that it follows the principle behind curly vs strait veins on an arrow shaft (to induce a slow spin) rather then a pressure equalization of any kind.

I wonder how easy it would be to create a computer simulation of all of the flywheel, cage, motor, and dart combinations, and as such get theoretical proof.

It would certainly be possible. Such software already exists for many other applications. It would take a lot of physics calculations though. And frankly to get the data needed to build the program you would have to build hundreds of combinations anyway.

Like how would you calculate the coefficient of friction of different flywheels and different darts? How would you calculate the effect different crush cages have? How would you accurately calculate spin up times and rpm sag between darts?

@@CaptainXavier I think an algorithm could run through all those possibilities with on its own. A neural network could take into account all of the variables and process them without human input.

@@thecaribouninja oh, cool! I didn't realize you were a Theoretical Software Engineer. Let me know when you get finished, I would love to give it a try!

It wasn't a Go Pro. It was my phone. It has survived much worse that a little slap

Lovely Science, but yes the amount and accuracy of the data needed to prove this would be huge.

I believe he is using the artifact cages not worker.

That is entirely possible. I didn't purchase them.

Wayyyy too many combinations for one person to do, but why not get recruits to test like 1 per week or biweekly. We could test a lot of those combinations over time
