People say the ranges suck but this gun was the first clip fed gun made back in 2006. It's not going to hit the same ranges as today. I think it's impressive for when it was made.

Yeah that one is on me. I got this blaster from a friend, and I wanted to make sure he hadn't modded it if I was going to use it for a "Stock" range test. When I reassembled the blaster I must not have gotten the teeth for the priming indicator lined up properly. I noticed it, but because it doesn't affect the ranges I didn't bother reopening the blaster again for such a minor fix.

I use the 14500s for their ease of use, just dropping in to replace the AAs, but there are plenty of different options to go with. The other two popular methods are to wire in connectors for R/C car batteries, or you can wire in connectors for additional battery boxes and get your increased voltage by using additional AAs. There are discussions about this on the official HvZ forums. As for my batteries, they came from the deal extreme website (can't link in comments, but google it).

That's what I read as well. I will see if I can find a friend with a Longshot, who will happily do a range test with Elite darts. In the meantime I will keep on asking around.

Thanks man! I think the current stock winner is the Strongarm at 74ft, but I might be forgetting a Vortex blaster that exceeded expectations. I really should make a database with all of the results one of these days.

If the Longshot is an option for you (if you're asking I assume you live in Australia, which is one of the only places you can still get them), get the Longshot over the Longstrike. They're about the same stock, but modded the Longshot can get insane in a hurry. If you're not interested in modding, then you want neither. If you're only looking at a 40ft range playing area, anything from the Elite line will be awesome for you right out of the box.

Odds are it'll boost the ranges a little bit, but not dramatically. Take a look at the "Are Elite Darts Better?" video on my channel, and the Alpha Trooper would be the closest comparable. Mostly it will just make the shots more accurate.

Give the longstrike a better spring, to the point where it hits the Rival chrono average (100 FPS)

No more difficult than any other N-Strike blaster.

Either blue Longshots are better, you are very lucky, or I always get duds when I buy Nerf guns. I bought a BRAND NEW IN BOX Longshot about 2-3 years after they discontinued them, and it sucks. If you stood 10 ft away from a wall, you could barely hit it with the barrel on or off. I have a friend who bought a pre-owned BLUE Longshot and his actually shoots farther than a Deploy with the front gun off. Either mine came defective or he blues are better, but my yellow one is pretty much trash
