Ok, I'm a theater kid, and when it comes to musicals, the best parts are given to the best built looking kids for a romantic part. However, if you are fat, you get the comedic roles. Even when you dance. So you don't have to be fit, but if you have directors who rely on shallow looks and talent then that is true.

This reminds me of when i learned where the Japanese club was in my Highschool. I was only a month away from graduating, my aunt had passed away and we had to go to North Carolina for the funeral. At the same time, I had a very important test for my AP PSYC class. So i told my teacher the situation and he said that it was ok and i can take a makeup test when i get back after class. When i got there, that's when I learned the Japanese club was at the same place as my AP PSYC class. My school barely advertised clubs that weren't sports focused, and I was so pissed off, had I known the club was there, i would've joined a long time ago.

The same way deadlifters looking ripped means jack when talking about actual physical strength and prowess. Cuz in my class we had a lot of chiseled faces, toned, six packed, ripped dudes that couldn't do s in sports. They were worse than the sedentary kids. And the fat gae kid danced way better and longer than even the entire class, even than the girls, but he wasn't exceptional at sports. The real dudes at sports were the small, thin dudes. They didn't look ripped, didn't look chiseled, but they ran faster, longer, played better and were way more agile than the best dancers in my class

I think she's wrong on this logically even the comment section knows this? It's different levels of athletics, sport wins in that category.

As someone who was in marching band throughout high school I was eligible to get a letterman jacket. Music departments are eligible for their own version. Our school colors were red, white, and columbia blue. The sports dept got blue for their jackets, music got red. I think I got the better end of the deal, even if my shoulders are too wide now to wear it.

Virtually anything can be a sport. If it can be made to have a competitive aspect, it can be a sport. The question of athleticism involved is merely a matter of degree and in what way. Things like dance and professional singing like opera or musical theater, which require a high level of capability respective to their particular demands and in their particular ways, can absolutely be considered athletic. People who engage in things that are more an exercise of the mind, such as competitive mathematics, can also be considered sports and athletic in its own way as well. Some folks will get tripped up in an argument of semantics of the term "sports" meaning things like ballgames, track and field, and other things of that nature that would typically come to mind versus a broader understanding of competitive activities in general. Same with "athletic" where people usually associate that with physical feats of the body, while it can also be understood to mean prowess in other fields outside that. Failure to outline terms and how we're understanding them, as well as simple ignorance of course, is how statements like, "Theater and choir isn't athletic though", and the resulting rant in response happen.

Brothers nearly got Alt+F4'd from life. Having shared an apartment with a theater major I can attest that they are athletic and work tirelessly. It may not be on the level of my other roommate who ran cross in high school, but I can still acknowledge it.

Theater requires your core muscles mostly your diaphragm while main stream sports mostly require muscles for legs and arms. As someone who has done both they are work out especially if you’re singing and moving around
