This is exactly what’s happened with my wife and I. We met like three months after BO3 came out. I joke that a Call of Duty session was our “first date” (sounds sad, I know) but back then, we could play in each other’s lobbies. Mind you, this was my wife’s FIRST COD EVER. She had no idea what she was doing, how to build classes, how to read a mini-map, nothing. First FPS she had ever played if I remember correctly. Even then, we would get in lobbies together and sometimes it would be a stomp fest and we’d both get wraiths, sometimes it was close and competitive, and other times we’d run into god-like players and get stomped ourselves. She had totaled over +30 days of playtime and was master prestige. She had like a 1.2KD, like an above average player I would say. I’m no pro, but nowadays she can’t even compete in my lobbies. She’s bottom of the leaderboard and she didn’t even get BO6 because she knew she wouldn’t play it because we can’t play it together. At this point, it would be more productive for me to sweat in solo queue ranked than actually attempt to play for fun. And after an 8 hour shift, I don’t want to sweat. I’m not asking for bot lobbies, I’m asking for good connection, no cheaters, and players of random skill levels. I don’t care to get steamrolled every once in a while if it means that I get to actually have fun and play together with my wife again.

I'm a Free For All guy - it is PAINFULLY obvious when then game wants me to take an L. People right behind me when I spawn in (multiple times in a row), everyone on the other side of the map when I spawn in so I'm running around finding no engagements at all, top 3 getting people spawning near them to get easy kills so I can't stay in the game etc. My first real COD experience was on WW 2 - I loved it. Made top 10000 leaderboards playing mostly FFA and within top 25000 in the world on FFA - would have been better but they stopped updating the FFA leaderboards for some reason so after awhile I never went up or down no matter how many W's I got. The tough part for me is that FFA is all about wins. K/ D is nice, but wins are what matter for FFA. So when I get a manipulated lobby, just quitting out to screw over their algorithm also give me an automatic L and so my record suffers which is the whole point of why I'm playing. To have a kick ass W / L ratio in FFA (and a decent K / D as well) to show how good I am at winning. This B.S. is exactly why they didn't get money from me for Vanguard, MW II and BO6. They also got no time from me either. I miss playing free for all regularly but I won't play if my wins are gaslighted and my losses are pre-determined. Screw that.

The main reason I quit was the inability to play with friends who aren't as skilled as I am. It became a nightmare after MW 2019-some of my friends, who I genuinely enjoy gaming with, found it completely unplayable. The only reason I even gave BO6 a shot was because I had a Game Pass trial, and honestly, I canceled it after just a few days. The experience felt so rigged, it’s like playing a slot machine at this point. What’s crazy is seeing how many people only realize how addicted they were after walking away from COD. I’ve seen tons of stories from players talking about how much their lives improved after quitting. If you want change, the answer is simple: boycott. Don’t spend a single penny on the game. Money is the only language they truly understand.

The SBMM or whatever it is now is really hurting the game, now more than ever. Not only does it feel like Activision is basically win trading for you, during the free trial, it is impossible to play with friends of lower skills. I asked my brother and friend to download it so we can play together, but all we did was play with sweats the entire time. They told me they didn't have any fun and they will not be downloading the game. Instead of mix lobbies, we only played extremely good players (because of me) and it was a terrible time for them. SBMM pretty much ruined this game for me. I played on game pass so I got it for almost nothing and I still don't want to play it. What's even the point in having a ranked playlist when the matchmaking is literally the same? It just makes the ranked cheating problem even worse. If I'm being extremely generous I can see how some people can KINDA think SBMM might be beneficial for lower skilled players, but the way I see it is... if you have no/weak SBMM and low skill players have a bad time, they can at least find some solace in ranked play where they know they'll have a more balanced game. Whereas if you have super strict SBMM in unranked you literally blend the two game modes into one and theres nowhere for the mid-high skill players to go for a different experience. It kills all fun and variety in the game. Game devs got this right years ago with seperated social and ranked (with an actual difference) and a boot camp mode to find your feet before jumping into the player pool (Black Ops 1). I was missing having a casual arena shooter to play with friends so I tried BO6 since it was on game pass but its just not as fun as the good old days. Which is honestly a shame because the last one I played before this was MW2019 and this game is INFINITELY better than that dumpster fire.

I tried ranked and it was genuinely the exact same experience as regular public lobbies. Although it was a little better because it removes all the unbalanced obnoxious garbage. I'm not even sure the rank even matters. All the matches just had a random selection of various ranks.

Removing SBMM just means players get some variety every now and then in the matchmaking instead of fighting a clone of themselves. Instead of thinking logically people just assume anti-sbmm crowd want to trounce noobs... no, we want variety which sbmm effectively eliminates entirely.

An SBMM story that will forever live in my mind palace happened when my older sister played MWII. She played CoD hardcore from BO1 up to BO3 with her bf and group of friends. She hops on MWII with her bf during the Halloween event (both havent played since BO3) and I shit you not, they played Shipment and their matches lasted until the time ran out...ON SHIPMENT. My typical Shipment rounds last 2-3 mins max, the fact that her Shipment rounds went to time limit every single time was utterly mind boggling to me.

Everything in this video is so relatable. 1) Whenever my buddy Anthony asks me to play, I always have to say no. He prefers playing Warzone but I have a 2KD, he has a 0.5KD; not a very good mix for duos. 2) I also used to play with 3 of my IRL buddies but just like you, we all played 1 game on the new COD and they haven’t been on since. 3) The only people I play with now are people I’m not even friends with IRL. This is sadly the only way I can have a good experience on the game. However, we play ranked and with the rampant hacking, we all stopped playing that as well. 4) For the first time ever, I went for Nebula instead of Dark Matter. I couldn’t fathom playing solo MP with SBMM/EOMM as strict as it is and trying to go for headshots. 5) It is INSANE how many people I know IRL who haven’t even hopped onto COD since BO2. Even without trying any new COD, they’re well aware of the direction ACTI is headed in and simply refuse to play. These are people you can never convince to hop back on - even with all the marketing around ‘MWII’ or ‘classic 3-lane maps’ or ‘classic zombies’.

The player count never got back to half what it was in '22. % drops were 15% and 25% with less than half the player count. I guess you can call that a win, but the player count was never above 190,707 whereas it was 491,670 in '22 and reached 315,334 in '24. Larger bases see larger drops. It's normal.

My matchmaking experience before I quit was so frustrating. I ended up positive overall, but most of my matches consisted of me being beamed from across the map by SMGs. I couldn't even peek around a corner without being beamed from somewhere. My matches were far too sweaty as a solo player and I think it's likely because people were likely 2 boxing at the time on console. Even playing with another friend who isn't good at the game, regardless of who hosted, we were both constantly being shit on. I even rage quit the game a couple of minutes in because of how frustrated I was getting.

I have to play with 4 or more people to be able to half-way control a lobby. We also have to sweat our hardest just to keep up. And even with coordination we still lose matches and get eviscerated. Sbmm is manipulative and the lobbies as well. I've noticed that the first half of Dom all the way to 100pts we do well. Then our shots fall off we don't do as much damage and then the enemy team ends up turning the game to win Dom 199-200. It's ridiculous.

I can say that I prefer the multiplayer on BO6 better than MW3. Every other lobby in MW3 was packed with sweats and high kd players. I would go 7 and 45. I haven't had that experience in BO6. I had a kd of .93 in MW3. Now I'm holding steady around 1.30 in BO6. I'm just a casual player though, and I don't find it fun to get wrecked every other match. Just my opinion.

They quit playing with me since Vanguard ( mw19 was playable only because we camped with shotguns as the maps.and 725 was catering to this " adapt " mentality ). And now after being addicted so much to cod for over a decade, and feeling the extreme manipulation ( i am a solo good player ) the game finally made me not want to play it anymore.
