Interesting enough, StarTropics II debuted during the time when the 16-bit wars was in full swing and Nintendo was still developing/publishing titles for the NES in 1994 for a console that was already 9 years old in the U.S.. The title was a North American exclusive! Despite that it was made in Japan! 8^b Amazing then and now!

If I had the money, I would do some sort of fan film of StarTropics III: Hero of Argonia. It's 20 years later, and Mike still has dreams about Mica and everything he went through. His quest through the islands to rescue Dr. J, battling through the alien spaceship and his showdown with Zoda, rescuing the Argonian children, traveling through /time itself/ and meeting historical figures, and yet, with what seemed like hardly a second thought, Mica up and leaves the planet just like that. He's an adult now. He tried chasing his dream of being an all-star pitcher, but never made it. He's now a baseball coach for a lousy community college, and he still hasn't forgotten about Mica. His adult life is unfulfilling and boring as hell compared to his teen years and all the adventure he had. One night, the dream about Mica is so vivid he realizes that it's her speaking to him telepathically. The evil aliens are back. They were never entirely wiped out, another rose to take leadership after Zoda was defeated and reformed their fleet. The Argonians, their peaceful society rebuilt, are once again attacked by the second invasion. That's when they turn to Mike, who, reluctant at first, does decide to go with the Argonians and battle the aliens one more time. He has to go back to the old ruins where the original ruined escape pod still remains, which would have some tech in there that would allow them to link to him and bring him to their world. Thus, the Hero of Argonia joins the fray once again. This time, he's not going to let Mica slip away so easy.

That sounds super interesting. Argonia could offer many new settings for the dungeons! StarTropics could've become more popular had a third entry in the series been made. I hate Nintendo for pretending this series never existed!

A lot has been said about this game being an unrecognized classic and it's true that when it came out, it was competing with 16 bit games that had been on the market for 3 years and the Playstationabout to be released in 6 months. So, as early 90s gamers, we knew this was an important game especially because it came from Genyo Takeda, the original creator or StarTropics. The shooting/jumping puzzles and huge sprites really pushed what the NES could do. And because the internet was still in its infancy, there were no guides. For weeks, StarTropics 2 captured our lives. We'd talk about strategies at lunch and after school. We'd plan sleepovers and stay up until dawn helping each other beat the game. This game would forever shape how I expected games to be later in life.

One of the first games I ever played as a child was this one.. Y'know, it's funny, I never realized that the dialogue actually said "Seattle", up until I was 8-10 years old and realized just how close Seattle was to where I actually lived (right across the water, ~5-10 miles by boat). The furthest I ever got to completing the game was actually a playthrough I did maybe around 5 years ago? Think I got to just before the final battle... Was re-battling the bosses but the entire time the screen was grey (haven't watched this playthrough yet to confirm that), and I think I got to the "dragon" one.. Anyhow, this game was truly one of a kind and it really got me into RPG style/oriented games

The bosses aren’t as difficult. So far I’m in chapter 4 of the sequel and I’ve had a lot of cheap deaths. It feels like they didn’t put the same effort into making the sequel. 7/10 .
