I remember the ninja ban in the UK. Very weird and only seemed to apply to certain things. Doesn't apply anymore and everyone at school still called them Teenage Mutant NINJA Turtles. Contrary to government fears at the time, the lifting of the ban did not result in us becoming a nation of people that'd settle conflicts with shuriken.

Trivia (that no doubt most here will know already): Road Avenger was directed by Yoshihisa Kishimoto, who also did FMV game Cobra Command and went on to design Double Dragon for Technos later. The red car in Jimmy and Bimmy's garage is the one from Road Avenger, and the helicopter from Double Dragon II references the one from Cobra Command.

Could it be possible that the thugs that are in Road Blaster/Road Avenger might also be the Black/Shadow Warriors, and that Jimmy had a wife that had d i e d , thus the reason for him fighting with his brother Billy over Marian? I mean, if you think about it long enough, it does kind of make sense, right?

In the Nes Jackal, the cut scenes change depending on how well you did in the level. If I recall correctly, you get the scene where they say, "Yeah!!!" If you don't die at all, you get "We made It!" If you die once, and "Here?" If you die more than once. Jackal, along with Contra and Super C are the few Nes games I can complete without dying.

I recommend reading through Crazy Taxi's manual. The game's a ton of fun after you learn the crazy moves.

The Game Boy version of Donkey Kong was what paved the way to the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series 10 years later. Unfortunately, only the first game actually played like the original, but that did get a HD remake on the Switch as of early this year. Speaking of Donkey Kong on Game Boy, someone is currently working on a Game Boy Color DX rom hack that will add full color and quality of life improvements. It's stated to be released some time next year, so hopefully it won't be too long before we get to play it.

I don't remember there being any slowdown in the PS2 version of Crazy Taxi, but it's been a _LONG_ time since I played it so I might be misremembering. You didn't have analog gas and break though since the DualShock 2 doesn't have analog triggers like the Dreamcast controller does. (Except all the buttons are pressure sensitive so it technically does? But it's not used here.) There actually _is_ speech in the arcade Donkey Kong, it's just unused. There's a sample of Pauline shouting "HELP!" It's not the exact same clip though. It was intended to be used the same way though, as she's being carried off by DK. There's another clip of Pauline shouting "Nice!" that was intended to be used whenever you jump over a barrel or other hazard instead of the jingle we'd become familiar with. The reason these sounds were unused, according to Shigeru Miyamoto himself, is because playback quality was so bad you could hardly tell what she's saying! So, while technically the arcade board _could've_ played back voice samples, it was indeed too weak to make them ineligible. (That, or the digitization was bad.) Some versions of Top Gunner/Jackal used a rotary joystick to allow you to aim the guns a la Ikari Warriors. In the Japanese version, the gun is fixed in the Jeep's direction, and everywhere else it's facing up as it is in the NES. Also, in the NES version, the "Here?" screen is replaced with a screen of your Jeep leaping over the battlefield, guns blazing as the driver shouts "YEAHHH!!" if you get through a stage without dying.

If texting girls is arcade mode and rizzing them in person is console mode, I'm a much better translation than my arcade mode.

My weekend is not complete without a new Game Sack video, thank you for making these and sharing them with us, makes doing weekend shores easier 😁👍 PS: I think the predecessor to Crazy Taxi was Space Taxi on the Commodore 64.

I've never seen an episode of Game Sack that I didn't find informative and entertaining, this included, but, the ending here was the first time I left an episode with a feeling of whiplash and general, unsettling oddness. Knowing Joe's humor I see what he was going for but it didn't land for me. Anyway, Happy Halloween Joe and everyone in comment world!

for people who don't know, Jackal aka 赤い要塞 on Famicom Disk System features different stage order comparing with the original arcade and NES version. stage 1 is actually stage 3 or 4 on NES as I remembered.

Turtles in Time scoreboard: Arcade advantages: 4 players, more enemies on screen SNES advantages: Extra stages, much Much MUCH better hit detection. It just feels better. For me, the SNES wins. It's close enough to the arcade in most categories and the far superior hit detection is a huge difference maker.

8:48 Peter Chung (Aeon Flux) was involved in Transformers The Movie as well as other well animated cartoon intro sequences like TMNT. This side note in Road Blasters makes me think, 'Could he have contributed as well?'
