This was originally a Kunio-Kun title called "Bikkuri Nekketsu Shin Kiroku! Harukanaru Kin Medal". Not to mention the game's original ending title screen was a girl on a swing with the words "That's All" written in Japanese. Nekketsu Ice Hockey originally came out shortly before this game.
@TheCodedtestament9 жыл бұрын
Playing alone is fun already, but multi-player adds a whole new dimension of enjoyment.You have to give credit to the developers for at least trying to do something different with this title,This game is better than any other "sports competition" on the NES. It is far above the Track & Field series and much, much, MUCH better than the California Games.
@yuefei86907 жыл бұрын
RAQUAAHWA TheCodedtestament , that game was my childhood the japanese version has different background. These location are set on tokyo, osaka, chiba, sapporo, okinawa. My brothers bring me some other famicom games: solomon no kagi, moai-kun, neko ninden teyande, fudou myouou den, doki doki yuenchi.

I think this version is better than the JPanese version. The street motif is dope as hell. The urban backdrops for 400 meter and the ghetto pipeline for the swimming event, the heightened posh of the golf course the rich kids obviously had parents let them use, all that style. Only bad thing was the weird characters and removing the Dragon Twins.
@Robciomixxnfs3 жыл бұрын
@@Krystalmyth That's what I've been thinking! The street/urban setting made the game way less "official" and way more relatable. Or maybe it's just me who grew up watching Ed, Edd n' Eddy... but my point still stands.

This is an unknown game that almost didn’t arrive in the US. It was localized and given more of an American touch to appeal to consumers. I think the orignal look was more of the Japanese version double dragon art/characters. This game is part of a series known as Kunio-Kun. Other games from the series are Renegade, Super Dodge Ball, River City Ransom and Nintendo World Cup

The game you're looking for is probably 'Downtown Nekketsu Koushin Kyoku - Soreyuke Daiundoukai', which was the previous game in the series. (Though in that game or the JP version of this one, neither Todd nor Skip/Slick/Simon actively participated in the events, though Todd was responsible for organizing them. Presumably the guy that ended up in second in the first scene of the intro to this game was Wheels/Turk/Mochizuki.)

There are no endings, which is really a shame because they had that cute little opening sequence but they wrapped and shipped it once they finished that. TBH though they did a lot of work modding the game to localize it. It's pretty much a custom rework of the game.

@Krystalmyth7 жыл бұрын
Capt Kool There's only two buttons on the controller... Do you need a tutorial for everything? In the 400 meter for instance tap right to run faster left to go slower. Hit A to bash hurdles and pickup broken boards. Hit A if armed to spin slash. B to jump. Hit B in mid air to spin kick and A to throw weapon. If you get hit slow down so you don't get spin kicked over and over again. Then once behind break boards and throw them at the enemy. Spinkick in the air to counter throws and become invulnerable. Time your throws when their kicks are over. Also down will slide under hurdles, but lowest hurdle will trip you up. You can break boards as you're coming back in from a knock down. Wow in hindsight this game is pretty fucking deep isn't it?
@starofjustice17 жыл бұрын
Ah, boy. I loved how for most of the game they had violent events but they were kinda trying to pretend it was a normal competition by being about things like hurdles and swimming and pole vault, but then at the end they just threw all that shit away and it was like "Fuck it, we're gonna settle this with a good old street fight and just beat the crap out of each other!"
@Krystalmyth7 жыл бұрын
starofjustice1 Yeah I like how cheating is a legitimately alright thing to do because the mechanics dictate that cheating will cost you points. So it's your choice. Nobody whines about it. It resolves itself. Oh and that you can win every event but if you fuck up even one of them, you could get Best of the Worst and lose fifteen medals, making it so your team can't have someone sandbagging and letting their captain do All the work. Everyone has to knuckle up. It's great. Real shame this game didn't blow up and they didn't turn it into the franchise they originally wanted to. Crash and the Boys Ice Challenge was never released.

If you did well enough to afford it, then its fair game. It's a rich gets richer concept. The kind of thing the Hillers would do. My friends would always get it if they could. It rewards them and makes you more of the underdog at that point. Winning it all after they use Chomper on you in swimming is super satisfying! It's all about standing your ground in the Fighting challenge, and not falling off of the damn rooftops! lol
