This game was released on cartridge. And you guys probably already know this, but certain Famicom games had expansion chips in them that (usually) enhanced the sound, like Konami's VRC6 and VRC7. This game uses the normal 2A03 though, it just sounds particularly nice.

because of the skill building system in this game, you can break the system and make your party unbeatable early in the game. use your weakest attacks on your party members as often as possible. this will increase your hp and defenses. with that trick your 3 main characters can get over 9k hp right at the beginning. the process will take hours but it makes things easier.

Of course your characters will become op with hours of grinding. That's the case for practically any RPG. Maybe not to the extent of Final Fantasy 2, but still. I wouldn't quite calling that "breaking the system". I'm sure you would have a similar effect in, say, Chrono Trigger doing pretty much the same thing.

Msoh was referring to a glitch where you could order your party members to attack each other so what you could do is get into a small easy fight then have them hit each other with a weak move over and over to level their hp and defense up.

Playing through the first six FF games during the summer. Dropped by because I was curious what the original game looked like. (Playing GBA ports of 1,2,4, and 5. DS for 3. SNES for 6.) I like the 8-bit music. The stat grinding system takes a bit of getting used to, but I don’t mind. (I’m not BS’ing the system in my run.) I made Guy a barehanded brawler, and he goes and wrecks things like a pre-incarnate Sabin Rene Figaro. That said, I like the flexibility the system gives in regard to building up characters.

This game's by no means great. It has tons of issues with its unbalanced leveling system and how some spells are basically the same thing but with different animations and a lot of others don't really have obvious or clear effects that would make you use them over say shell or protect. Not just that, but a lot of the characters just maintained the same dialogue throughout most of the game. And I really do hate how Leon takes so goddamn long to rejoin your group and joins heavily under-leveled. However, I played it a lot when I was younger and though it has all those flaws, it holds a special place in my heart. For a Famicom game, this was a huge game in size and was very ambitious for an early era jRPG. It also had the balls to (SPOILERS for anyone planning on watching through the entire longplay) kill off 4 characters who most of 'em have an incredibly vital role in the game and did some awesome things in the story. Dragon Quest III may seem like the better game to people due to how well they got their head around the concept for that series while Square wanted to experiment, FFII will always remain an eerie addition to the series - a strange enigma that was always paired in with the first game despite it being so drastically different save for some of the graphics.

I believe there are addendum patches to fix some bugs, though I haven't tested them myself. Otherwise, the bugs were not fixed.

Sadly I never knew the FF games existed until Mystic Quest and even then didn't pick up on them. I didn't start until VII and then went back and played all the old ones. I was 4 when the NES came out, stayed up all night with my mom playing Mario. Wish I had know about FF from the start so these could hold a special place in my heart like VII does

RodConvoy1987 Before PlayStation era, NES only used the first Final Fantasy game localized and skipped the two 8-Bit Final Fantasy sequels to bring Final Fantasy IV and labeled as Final Fantasy II and brought Final Fantasy VI as Final Fantasy III.

Yes, you can save anywhere on the world map, and you will also respawn at that exact place when you load the file. However, you cannot save in dungeons or towns, so you will have to beat each dungeon in one sitting, although you can use the spell Exit to leave them whenever you want.

Isaac Adam yes, its for story reasons, they are impossible to kill without hacking, and if you kill them with hacks, you will be taken back to the title screen, well, for at least the GBA version.
