The speed of the enemies never stops increasing after 100+ levels! This issue ought to be fixed (a la the effects that bring forth the infamous kill screens in Pac-Man and Donkey Kong to name two) by setting a flag for it to stop after, say, level four or five.

Idk why you are shocked by this… everyone knew arcade games were purposely hard to suck quarters. That was intentional design. The NES version is no different.

I remember waking up one morning and my mom (who never played video games) was playing this and was really good lol I guess my brother showed her how to play. The funny thing is, she never cared for video games but loved this one, think it was around 1995, I was five years old. RIP mama.

AFAIK you don't have a chance... been able to achieve this level when I was a kid. With the game genie... the game just continuously loops the levels... there's no "game over" or beating the game afaik. Played for 4 entire hours nonstop. Level after level, infinite pepper, infinite lives... for four hours it just looped the levels over and over. IIRC though once you got the 7th level, the pickles were on every level thereafter.

Intellivision is best version. Not saying that just because I had/have it, but after seeing all the other versions, it is the best. Surprised to hear how many people saying this was a hard game. I suppose if you played it as much as I did, you can't help but get goid at it.

Once you get into the higher levels your enemies go absolutely insane. It's impossible for Peter to outrun them. But with the Game Genie, you can put in a code that gives you infinite peppers and lets you climb into spaces where there ain't no ladders. The food can't get to you there and you just stand in the blackness while those guys race in circles trying to get you. Then, after a minute they just.... freeze. (After they've hit top speed, they obviously can't move any faster and they just stop.) Then you step down, pepper anything in your way and finish the burgers with nothing chasing you. It gets boring after a while but you can maximize your score and play for as long as you want.

What you describe is just like why the kill screens in both Pac-Man and Donkey Kong, among other arcade classics, exist. In this game, they should have wrote a check for this game to stop with the difficulty increase after, say, level three or four. On level 28 in this game, the madness goes berserk!

One of the most difficult games I have ever played, I remember never getting past the second level. But I have fond memories playing this game on the Intellivision system, whenever my brother and I played, my mom used to make us hamburgers and French fries to get in the mood. Good times!

I bought the My Arcade Burgertime cabinet last week. I wondered if the NES version it was based on really had off-key music, bad control, and gruesome green meat patties. Watching this proves that yes, it really did. How was this fumbled so badly? Peter Pepper was practically the Intellivision mascot, and to see it reduced to this on a more powerful system is... depressing.

Speaking from experience, you would find this game at places like Pizza Hut. They were usually a flat-screened machine and you had to look down while playing with it. Someone would sit across from you and watch or play. Those were generally good times.
