In this case, it's becaues there's some actual consideration put into the art, partcularly the golfer, so it kinda look a bit like playing a simple cartoon version of golf rather than a really low-end graphics version of golf.

I was born in 93 and didn’t get an NES until 98. It belonged with my uncle before me and all i had was Super Marie Bros., Galaga, and this game. My dad and I would sit on the floor together and play this game for hours. He was better at it than me of course but i managed to do something that he never did. A hole in one. I never managed it again but us playing together and celebrating together is still one of my favorite childhood memories.

I've shot 49 on this game a couple times i believe. It takes perfect wind conditions on the par 5 holes so that you can get eagles instead of birdies on them. You have to get 4 eagles on the par 5s, 1 hole in one and birdies on everything else. Tough to do but not impossible. I recently started playing again on the SNES classic, and just shot a 56 last night, with a bogey.

I know that this was due to the technical limitations of the NES, but the way that the graphics were done for this game looks like golf being played in space. Those of us who remember watching The Jetsons would understand. Still this game did have a charm to it.

I spent many, many hours with this game in my youth. All you need is the 1W and a keen hand with the putter and you can finish WAY under par. Never even pull another club out.

when i am playing this on switch i’m having a very hard time figuring out how to get the ball to go longer distances like in this recording. many of the clubs seem to go the same very short distance when you hit in the white bars so i don’t get what i’m doing wrong

Lee Trevino’s Fighting Golf was pretty much this same game with different golfers. Even the sound effects were very similar. Great memories.

I used to always go for the highest scores I could get, mostly because I loved the sound effects of the ball either going out of bounds ("OB") or in the water ("WATER HAZARD"). I think my record high score for all 18 holes was 1,782 points (displayed as *H82* in this game) if I remember correctly. The only downside is that each hole had a limited max score (99 points). If it wasn't for that, I probably would have scored much higher than 1,782 points.

I'm surprised that this is the only NES sports game that never came out on Nintendo Switch Online. All we get is NES Open Tournament Golf, starring Mario and Luigi.

Golf did kind of come out on Switch. This is the first game Satoru Iwata ever built while being in Nintendo. He was a really beloved man, partner, co-worker and, years later, CEO of Nintendo. He was the mind behind the Switch but he sadly passed away in 2015 so he could not see the outstanding success of his creation. But, as a token of gratitude, this game remains (or at least for a while, don't know if it is active anymore) as an EE on the Switch main menu. Every 07/11 (the day he passed away) if you do his signature Nintendo Direct hand gesture with the joycons the Switch will black out and load Golf and, then you can play it
