I remember beating this game as a kid after days and days and days of frustration. I remember getting all the way to the bridge, which was no easy feat back in the late 80’s, with no internet, no walkthrough, no saves, no continues and the game’s cryptic ass bullshit only for the game to freeze and crash. I cried for hours lol The second time I made it to the bridge, my mom called me to dinner and my dad, not realizing I was still playing, turned the NES off. I cried out of frustration again lol After that I was DETERMINED to beat this damn game. So I got up at like 4am on a Saturday morning while my parents were still asleep and beat this game in one sitting. I felt so awesome but nobody cares but me. Those were the good ok NES days.

Beating this game as a kid to me and my neighborhood was like someone catching a bullet in their teeth. If you could do it you were something greater than a mere mortal. Man-plus. My best friend’s teenage brother was a huge dork and so had skills enough to beat this, Zelda II and Ghosts ‘n Goblins over a Memorial Day weekend. I remember he was super excited because he used the family VCR to tape his GnG run. Pretty cool that what seemed like technical wizardry then (recording gameplay) is something almost anyone can do now.

Pretty clean playthrough. Never took damage. Never used the slingshot or molotovs. Never used the boomerang, and let the first Lockjaw he met take it. Only opened four safes, three of which were items.

I originally thought this was game which was a sequel to the movie, what I found out it was actually a sequel to an original Goonies game. It is still fun to play and brings great memories of adventure and thrill.

To those who aren't familiar with how masterful is this playthrough, there's a map in the pause screen that's a huge part of finding where anything is, and aside from one moment when the springy shows are selected on that screen, we wouldn't know about it at all from this video because they already have the map in their head.

This was true first Metroidvania game of it's type here with it's forward/backwards worlds! The amount of times I played this via my now gone local mall back in 1988/89. At the time of 9 years old I didn't have a clue on what I was supposed to be doing so I just traveled looking for items here...Never forgot that I'd lose my boomerang from the ice caverns if I got touched by those flying animal head skulls on blunder bridge so I'd rather die on purpose and yeah that damn candle!!! Yeah punch or hit the monk like over 10 times to get that candle!!?! No it was an old woman?!!! How is a kid supposed to figure that notion out in the 1980's?! The game is SO cryptic still even till now but I love it, should a sequel official movie ever come out?! It'll never beat the game here!!! I'm surprised that it too W.O.L.P 34 years to finally tackle this game?!!...

I just watched the AVGN guys fumble around this game for an hour and twenty minutes, having only find one Goonie near the end of the video, lead by Mike who claimed to have played the game as a kid and had recently beaten it. So to find her that someone can beat it in 46 minutes while taking their time is pretty interesting.

The most important thing to remember about this game: if you are at a warp zone and you go back to the platforming area by pressing down, you are on the front of the map. If you go back by pressing up, you are on the back of the map.

This game doesn't has as much stage or enemy variety as Simon's Quest, there are no bosses, it doesn't have experience or money or upgradeable weapons or anything. Still, I would say this is the better Metroidvania vs. Simon's Quest. The music is incredible.

They cause no damage but they will steal your boomerang if they touch you or your boomerang. You can always collect the boomerang again where you got it before but it’s really annoying to have to do so, especially because the boomerang is really useful.
