This is by far the most nostalgic game from my childhood. I really wish they would have done more with it. I never bothered with the release on 3DS because it just looks like they slapped the characters on top of a completely different game. I wish there was a way for them to return to this in today's world.

it was the same feeling i got, if we played this game now we would struggle a lot, the older games were very difficult these modern games from about 1994 onwards were made less challenging and more fun, ghost n goblins is the hardest game of all time, 3 lives a timer and no continues and harder than frozen chuck Norris ball bags

@@retrogameroom9019 Yep. That one made you invincible and started you on the last stage. There was also "ICARUS FIGHTS MEDUSA ANGELS" which started you in the 2nd dungeon, with invincibility that lasted until around the final dungeon, I believe.

John Kitteral probably the most frustrating game ever made. Everyone grew up with it, so it gets heavy nostalgia points...but my god, this game is the very definition of frustration and “nes hard”. Lots of bad memories mixed with good memories, to be honest.

The "empty rooms" are where you get the arrow upgrades. To get one, you need a score of 10000 or higher. There are 5 total arrows. Normal (the ones you start with), Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. There's at least one in each world, but, you get the first upgrade in 1-2, and there's actually 2 upgrades in 2-1. And your last ones will either come in 2-2 or 3-1. Hope that helps.

Wow, didn't know that code! What does it give you? There is one: DANGER !!!!!! HORROR TERROR or the two last words are swapped. It starts you at the last level with the second strength upgrade, but you can't upgrade further once you beat Medusa and restart the game ^^ It's a weird one.

I'm guessing that Kid Icarus doesn't get frequently name dropped as one of the best NES games is simply because it was too difficult for most people, Star Tropics might be in a similar situation.

Ninja Gaiden has a good reputation and it's regarded as a classic. It also spawned a successful series. Same goes for the original Castlevania. Kid Icarus has it's game design against it, not the "difficulty"(it's not a player friendly game when it comes to understand it's very mechanics. AKA, it's not very intuitive)

If your best argument is "git gud" then you have no arguments. The game has many initial rappings that make it particularly punishing at the start. One Hit Kill enemies, upwards scrolling with a following bottomless pit, easy to lock yourself out of stores to buy upgrades, enemies with faster mobility than your player character, etc. That...makes for a harder initial impression than other games of the time.

What made it so difficult FOR ME- the eggplant dudes. It wasn't shown here but those purple dudes in every boss level (X-4) turn your upper body into an eggplant preventing you from shooting if they hit you. That happened a lot to me.

No, the story I said was written int he very manual. Medusa wanted Pit to be at his weakest and deactivated his wings. That is why he needs the treasures to be activated in order to reach Medusa herself. What use would the prison in the underground be if he could just fly out of there?

i first played this in 1990 Christmas time age 14 it took me and a friend about 6 months to complete, also had Metroid Castlevania and Castlevania 2, super Mario bros, Mike Tyson's punch out, Castlevania 2 Simons quest took us a year to complete, because no hints or tips

You're a tremendous gamer! Compared to most gamers on youtube who did a walkthrough of this game, you beat it several minutes faster. I hope this isn't because you skipped levels! Not sure why I said the music isn't catchy- it sure is! Looks like your character has helper friends battling the boss fights alongside you floating in the air. I'm so angry at Nintendo for discontinuing the NES Classic Edition. I want to squeeze their throats I mean it! Jumping in the quicksand refills your life meter?

Those "helpers" are really weak, and difficult to manage. But they deal the highest damage, 5 points if you can hit with them. The "quicksand" is more like a hot spring, or healing bath ^^

48:20 completed the game without getting turned into an eggplant with legs omfg, for those who don't know this game the 2 purple blue enemies that throw egg plant eggs up at pit if it hits you it turns you into an egg plant you can walk and jump but can't shoot an arrow you have to find the cure in the level
