Another tip,is (I just called Nesco) when doing water bath, it does not beep after 10 min of steam, you have to time that yourself, then push start and do nothing else until the time runs out. I am so,used to pressure canning and waiting for beeps, that I want to double check the water bath

The "E" cycle is not building up pressure. The "E" cycle is the 10-minute exhaust cycle just like we do with the stovetop canners. That is when we are exhausting a steady stream of of steam for 10 minutes. Once the "E" cycle is done, the black or green wait depending on your altitude is changed from exhaust two are tight. THEN the pressure is building up in the canner and THEN the canner starts the countdown for the canning cycle.

I got my second Nesco for Christmas. I love not having to “babysit” the canner when canning…BIG game changer. Thanks for mentioning what the proper position is for the steam release thingy. I was having trouble trying to figure out the correct position for it because it can sit incorrectly between the correct position and the next position if not positioned correctly.

I had the exact same problem! I started using this canner when I was busy putting in new gardens and self sufficient operations around our home. Then my husband had a stroke and I was caregiving full time. The ONLY way I was able to can was with my electric canners. Such a blessing to have them during this season. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

I just got mine and have a question. When water bath canning, so you put the food in, select WB, set your time and it starts the red lines going around, then you wait for the constant stream of steam to come out, is this when you press start for the second time and then the time to process should show on the screen? Thanks so much ❤ love to can

I just got mine today. The first time I used it, I put Five pints of pork stew in it. I set it on high for seventy-five minutes, It went down to e 0 and started flashing like supposed to. Then I flipped it from exhaust to airtight. Then the chase light came on like it's supposed to. But then, after a few minutes, instead of displaying my cook time and starting its cycle, It started blowing excessive steam and went to off. Could this have been because of the red safety valve winding up over top of one of the jars? So anyway, I let it cool down and took the pints out. Then I put four quarts of water in. And this time, it worked perfectly. So, I'm trying to figure out what went wrong the first time.

Using mine for the first time today . Everything is fine and it's still pushing an hour and has not hit vent countdown mode. Is it broken?
@farmyourbackyard2023
@farmyourbackyard2023 Жыл бұрын
No, it’s not likely. As long as all of the seals are intact, you should be just fine. Elevation does play a part in how long it takes to can and to cool. Once you run a few batches, you will know about how long it takes for you in your area.

When the sealing valve is on, does it always vent steam? Is this not like my Instant Pot where it seals completely?

Yes, I just used mine for the first time and was worried when that happened! I looked it up online and that is normal. It is releasing too much pressure, working like the jiggler on a stove top canner in order to keep it at the right amount of pressures.

First time using this. I didn't get the e10 or e0. So i didn't turn the valve to airtight. Are my beans still safe to use? And should all of the water be gone when done?
@lindaann9927
@lindaann9927 8 ай бұрын
Sounds like you made the same mistake that I just did, for the first time use. I couldn't figure how High and Start alone would pressure can anything. So of course I hit the Pressure Cook button too. Wrong move!! That was what lost all my water also. In essence, my quart jars were getting no more than water bath canned. But Thankfully, I had set the time, to where it was the same as if I had done an actual water-bath canning, and the right amount of time. Of course I also did not receive any E-10, nor E-0 messages either, so of course the vent was to the open position the whole 45 minutes. But it sure sounded like it was boiling to me. And it must have been, as I had no water left in the end. The company instructions do not tell of some exact details, like E-0 flashes some, even after closing the vent, then goes into the red line spin around the box, before it starts it's countdown. So one tends to panic, like "what have I done wrong now"? Nothing... Don't forget to use the Great idea, of using about 2 Tablespoons of white vinegar, in the 8 cups of water that you add at the start. It makes the world of difference how your jars don't get lime white film on your jars. And also no white film on the inside of canner, and rack... The two canning sessions that I have done since I did that first batch, have gone seamlessly. Thank God that is!! Happy 😊 canning to you!! 🌹💜✝️

First day trying my brand new canner, making ranch style beans. Everything going great until I got to E0 and switched to airtight. After that it stayed on E0 for the duration and pretty soon started beeping continuously and aggressively until I got scared and unplugged it. There was ever so slight amount of steam coming out around the lid, is that normal? After watching your video I think I might have put too much water in the canner pot... I had a few delays and had it running browning to keep hot til I was ready so I just added more water to the "8" line. Argh 😫 🤦‍♀️ I think the instructions in this booklet are terrible and sure assume a lot as far as whether or not the person operating it has ever done anything like this before lol😂 Anyway I'm not sure anyone could respond in time but I'm really hoping I have not ruined my beans I worked on all morning 😭 will try again after it has cooled down enough to re measure the water in the pot. Yours was the only video I could find that referenced anything like what I was running into so THANK YOU SO MUCH

I just bought one of these a couple of months ago and finally got to use it. It does work great. However, I had a lot of steam escaping in the exhaust mode for those 30 minutes getting ready and then even in the airtight mode while processing. So, I don't know if there is something I did wrong, don't know what that could be or if it is the canner. We have 9 foot ceilings in our kitchen and in the exhaust mode it was probably shooting steam at least 5 feet and then airtight mode at least 2-3 feet. It shows that you can remove that pressure gauge for different elevations but we can't get that gauge off to change it so we don't know if something was wrong in that part as well. Maybe someone can give me some advice on all that.

From my limited experience, it sounds like the gasket or the valve may not have been seated correctly. I’ve had this happen before with my instant pot, which is a similar design. Try taking out the gasket and read the instructions in the manual on removing the valve, then receipt both of them and do a water pressure test. That should tell you if it was a gasket problem or if you have a malfunctioning unit.

I had a hard time getting the 10# gauge off as well. You really have to pull on it as it just snaps in. Once off, the 15# easily snapped back in.

The designer put safety features in it's design to keep it from blowing up. Steam venting is one of those safety features. It functions overall with same principles as a normal canner. You let it vent steam 10 mins to remove air from inside the pot & fill the inside with hot steam(as we do in our big presto & all American pressure canners). Then afterwards once the weight is set to airtight & pressure builds throughout the canning process, if pressure gets to going higher than the weight is set for,(10 or 15 psi), it vents a proper amount of steam to lower pressure & keep it a steady temp so canner will not explode.
@clashalley5575
@clashalley5575 4 ай бұрын
On a stovetop pressure canner pressure vents too. It is just releasing extra pressure to maintain 10yrs or 15lbs of pressure depending on which weight you use. You wouldn’t want your canner holding all the pressure in and getting higher and higher and higher. It would damage your food and jars and risk exploding even. So yes it’s normal to be venting freely on exhaust and also venting some on air tight after it has built up full pressure, in order to maintain an even amount of pressure.
