Hard to argue...one can make a persuasive case for his exemplary humility especially in light of his literal superstar status in the hockey world. What a gift for the sport to have had the likes of Beliveau, Howe, Mario...#4. Class acts all.

Habs fan for almost 60 years and I have discussed among my sport fanatic friends a longtime held sense that of all the supreme athletes that have worn a Boston/NE jersey in their careers (e.g. Williams, Russell, Bird, Brady etc.), regardless of a most worthy respect and admiration for their contributions to their sports, it is Orr that will always be the most beloved, not least because of his character. I don't believe that I'm wrong about that.

Flyers fan here. Without a doubt, Bobby Orr is my favorite non-Philly athlete. By far, the greatest defenseman ever to play the game . Feared every time he began a rush up the ice.

That's awesome. They wanted to show their appreciation. One of the newer chants is "THANK-YOU. BOB-BY!! (clap. clap. clap-clap-clap)." If that one was around back then they would have done it for 20 straight minutes. This was the '79 Bruins team. When Grapes took them to within a hair of the Stanley Cup Final. That would've been just a great, great night. The hero-worship must've been unreal. I learned of Bobby Orr much later on. I had no idea how good he was. Arguably the greatest complete hockey player ever.

Growing up in Montreal as a young Habs fan I was fortunate to see Bobby play. For me he is the greatest player ever. I recall begging my Dad to get me a Bruins sweater with Bobby's name and number on the back. He said I would get ridiculed but I didn't care. IMO Bobby changed the game and lead the way for young "D" like Robinson and Coffey to excel offensively. He is a legend.

I'm a Tom Landry-era Dallas Cowboys fan, watching in earnest since 1963. But I am also a NHL fan, from back when there were only 6 teams in the league. As a kid born and raised in rural 🇨🇱Texas🇨🇱, I basically knew of no other pro hockey fans. There were no NHL teams in the South, but we got the NHL games on TV, and l became a fan of the Montreal Canadiens. I remember the legendary Bobby Orr's rookie season with the Boston Bruins in '66, and became a fan of his from then on. Not only is Bobby Orr one of the greatest players in the history of the NHL, but even more so.....he is a great human being. God bless our pro hockey players from a by-gone era 🏒🏒

I was blessed to be able to watch Bobby's entire career as a young teenager in central Mass.....he is the greatest player that will ever play hockey and a greater human being. People talk about records that will never be broken in sports but for some reason Bobby is never mentioned in those conversations. But, what he did when he won all four major awards in hockey as a defenseman will never happen again. Winning the scoring title in the NHL and winning the best defenseman award the same year, which he did twice, will also never happen again. That feat just doesn't even make any logical sense yet that's what he did. I think Bobby Clark put it best when he said after seeing Bobby play, "he needs to be in one league higher than this one...". He also said Bobby Orr is what what all hockey players everywhere should strive to be like both on and off the ice. He wasn't flashy...he didn't need to be....he was just so much better than everyone else and still would be today.

One of the very very small handful of players to meaningfully change the game for the better. Profound impact! He is an example for all mankind. Thanks for the video. Please do the exact same one but get someone besides Mike Millbury to comment. He is the inverse of Bobby Orr. Remembered for climbing into the stands and beating a fan with a loafer, and then becoming the GM of the Islanders and temporarily destroying the franchise. What were you thinking?
