Where have you been all my life? How did you make a concept I really did not understand all semester just click as clearly and simply as you did? I am so grateful for you sir! You are definitely an educator!🤓 It's like I had all the pieces of the puzzle but they just werent coming together no matter how much I became familiar and examined the pieces individually or holistically, then you came and provided perspective and knew what knowledge I was missing to connect the dots! I appreciate you. Thank you.

Clear Elaboration by the speaker. This tutorial contains a clear explanation of structure of computer ( device, device controllers, bus , memory and CPU). Moreover it explains the term interrupts distinguishing them from system call. In addition to the explanation of interrupts, it also explains how CPU attends to interrupts by execution interrupts services routines.

A modern general-purpose computer system consists of one or more CPUs and a number of device controllers connected through a common bus that provides access to shared memory. To ensure orderly access to the shared memory, a memory controller is provided whose function is to synchronize access to the memory 1) Bootstrap Program:- - The initial program that runs when a computer is powered up or rebooted. - It is stored in the ROM. - It must know how to load the OS and start executing that system. - It must locate and load into memory the OS Kernel. 2) Interrupt: - The occurence of an event is usually signalled by an Interrupt from Hardware or Software. - Hardware may trigger an interrupt at any time by sending a signal to the CPU, usually by the way of the system bus. 3) System Call (Monitor call): - Software may trigger an interrupt by executing a special operation called System Call.

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:00 *🖥️ Introduction to computer system operations* - Introduces the importance of understanding computer system operations for comprehending how the operating system functions. - Explains the structure of a modern general-purpose computer system, including CPUs, device controllers, and shared memory. - Describes the role of device controllers in managing specific types of hardware devices and their connection through a common bus to shared memory. 05:14 *🧠 Understanding device controllers and shared memory* - Expands on the functions of device controllers and their responsibility for hardware device management. - Explains the importance of orderly access to shared memory and the role of the memory controller in synchronizing memory access for smooth device operation. - Illustrates how various hardware components interact through a common bus to access shared memory. 09:00 *🚀 Introduction to Bootstrap Program and Interrupt* - Defines the Bootstrap Program as the initial program executed when a computer is powered up or rebooted. - Discusses the function of the Bootstrap Program in loading the operating system kernel into memory and starting system execution. - Introduces the concept of interrupts, triggered by hardware or software events, and their role in halting CPU execution for priority tasks. 14:06 *🛡️ Understanding interrupts and system calls* - Defines interrupts as signals from hardware or software that pause CPU execution for prioritized tasks. - Introduces system calls, triggered by software operations, as a form of interrupt. - Explains the CPU's response to interrupts by transferring execution to a fixed location containing the Interrupt Service Routine (ISR). 00:01 Understanding the structure of computer system operations is essential for comprehending how operating systems work. 02:29 CPU is the main part of the computer system, responsible for all computations and processing. 04:50 Devices work with CPU via a common bus and shared memory. 07:04 Concurrent execution of device controllers and CPU ensures seamless operation. 09:21 Bootstrap program is the initial program that runs when a computer is powered up or rebooted. 11:39 The bootup process loads the operating system into memory to start the computer. 13:49 Interrupts and system calls explained 16:00 CPU responds to interrupts by stopping current execution, transferring to interrupt service routine, executing it, and then resuming interrupted computation.

In computer architecture, a USB controller, also called a Universal Serial Bus controller, is a chip that acts as an intermediary between the computer's central processing unit (CPU) and the USB devices you connect to it. eg: Keyboards and Mice: Essential for everyday computer use. Webcams: Used for video conferencing and online calls. Gamepads and Joysticks:

the CPU doesn't necessarily start executing the interrupt from the "starting address of the interrupt." Instead, it starts executing from a predefined entry point for that particular interrupt. This entry point is typically known as the "interrupt vector" or "interrupt service routine (ISR)" address. The operating system or hardware maps each type of interrupt to its corresponding ISR address.
